It was a good challenge from Chelsea who played well. I think the game would have been better if referees were more professional. Glad we got all 3 points despite the referees. Glad to see Slot showing his passion for the game too! People can stop saying Trent can't defend too.
Yep I thought it was a weird game. The result is what was important. We can play much better. Top and can do better. Hard to beat is a start and we can score. Great stuff David
Great Analysis as usual David, thank you. We Dogged it out today and took the 3-pts, everyone worked there socks off even though we weren't at our best. That's how you win titles, Cmon You Redddsssss! YNWA.
A pretty workmanlike performance from us today but we looked VERY solid at the back and Curtis did a BRILLIANT job being in for Macca. The clinical breaks (although few) were just better than them and yeah, Darwin also had a great game. Cheers DL 👍👍👍
Agree with most of the comments to varying degrees . Think , we started slow , the international break hangover . Yet we held all together . Nunez , Jones , Diaz , Gakpo , Gomez , lots to be hopeful and thankful about . Loved the performance, in it's entirety
Nunez did it for me.Always a threat & such potential.Hope he'll be given more minutes each game.,,plus, he don't take no shit, which makes him a respected player by opposition!.Thanks David as always. The questions in the pressers were a bit louder today,so if you are behind this,,,many thanks.☺👏👏👏Liked & shared.YNWA ❤🔴👍
@@davidlynchlfc I agree ! As for the pressers, maybe someone has tried to do something due to the mounting complaints of poor volume by questioners? Please ask around & have a look to see if u can spot any improvements. Thanks David, bless ya!❤🔴👍🤞
I don’t agree with your view that letting Chelsea have the ball wasn’t part of the game plan for Liverpool. I think it was the only way we could keep them at arm’s length. Of course we could have kept the ball better so giving the ball away cheaply at times wasn’t the plan but for sure deciding not to press as much as we usually do was always the plan. And by the way, it was the plan to hit them hard with transitional play, especially in the second half, while choosing the right moment to press them in their own half.
Chelsea aren’t a better side than Liverpool so I don’t really agree that containing them by letting them have the ball was necessary or the planned approach. I imagine the next time they visit Anfield, Liverpool will dominate the ball because that is what Arne Slot wants, he just hasn’t been able to implement everything yet.
This was a tough game which we won in a different manner. We seemed to want to concede possession in the second half but stay solid and this worked. It is a very different feel to the Klopp era but it’s nice to see us being tough to beat. I will praise Nunez today as he came on and made a difference. Not so much as a goal scoring threat but his all round contribution with and without the ball was excellent. The worry for me is, the last time someone fell on Jota he was 2 months out, I think it was Brentford last year. This time someone falls on him and it looks like it’s a rib injury!!? He is very fragile but we need him!! Let’s hope it’s nothing serious!!
I feel very similarly. Slot definitely didn't want or expect this much posession from chelsea... but we really are a solid unit, and we weren't (i don't think) the weaker team. Chelsea might have outdrawn us in stats like shots and posession, but we trump them with big chances created and the xG stats (xG in total for example, also xG-on-target). So just agreeing with you there. Always grateful to have your analysis on youtube, David. Keep up the good work!
We never play well after international breaks, main thing is we won. The two slight worries for me where Robbo and Szoboszlai, I love Andy but he was getting torn apart first half, and Szoboszlai's decision making is poor. Jones needs to be in ahead of him.
I agree David chelsea created good situations but none of them was clear cut shooting situations Liverpool had the better clearer chances our xg was 1.63 and Chelsea was 0.93
Worth factoring in that penalties are worth around 0.7xg so Liverpool’s is boosted by that. Suggests an even game, which is exactly what Slot called it in his press conference.
@@davidlynchlfc which is true but Chelsea had 12 shots and only 2 shots on target for the highest scoring team in the league that’s outstanding defence to be fair 👍🏾
Pretty good example of how to tough it out against a talented side. Slot seems to have tightened the defence and introduced not for the first time a bit of grit into the play. Loads of games to go aside from the champions League but a good attitude from the boys so far.
Darwin was fantastic, if szobo could pass I think Darwin might actually get some chances. Given it's after the international break I'll take it. Chelsea are a developing team and a bit of an unknown so it was a professional performance from us. Curtis pocketed Palmer for me.
Ultra tentative first half. Rock solid defensively most of the day, able to a nick a couple and collect trezo pointage. Love the Hungarian, but Szoboslai was a horror show today. Turnover machine. Lax on the ball. Weak take on a golden chance. But overall, nice win off the break vs a formidable foe.
All played their part, Szobo flattered to deceive though and was wasteful in end produce, a running theme for him from last season tbh. As they say attacks win games, defence wins leagues, and we've that nice balance. We tucked in well when cfc had possession and piled it on in attack.
Fantastic result. Cant forget we were up against a side who can afford to leave an 80 million pound signing in mudryk out of their squad! Looks like Maresca is starting to get a tune out of Chelsea so can’t underestimate how big a three points that is. Performance wise not perfect in saying that we could have put the game to bed in that last 15 minutes of the first half period. If the second pen is given (which I think it should) and also the Gakpo goal in which salah is marginally offside. We are all going to have to get used to how Liverpool manage the game. Once Jones scored we basically declared and said what we have we hold. Hard to criticise when you have won 10 from 11 but we definitely would have gone for the killer third under Klopp. Still job done and Curtis Jones deserved mom he was outstanding.
You know what David, all,I was quietly impressed with the difference in Chelsea, they are starting to get there stuff together.. On to us,I'm not sure,it definitely wasn't our best performance, but we got the job done, and that's how, dare I say it, titles are won.Long long way to go obviously, but a W is a W.on to the next. Ynwa.
Great result today David, it’s about time we were more physical! I thought Gravenberch just pipped Jones for MOTM. And Nunez? I thought Slot brought him on and switched to a 4-4-2. I also believe the TTA substitute is a change in tactics, as much as his lip curls… Overall, against a Billion £ team…we will look back on this as one of the crucial 3 pts we’ve earned. My only little moan was about Zorbo…we need goals from midfield, and I just thought he again came back from Int duty, a bit defeated. Thanks for your analysis YNWA
I thought the taa switch might have been bc he was getting ran at alot on that side and then chelsea bring in another very fast fresh winger to run at him. Gomez can keep up with the best of them. Could have been for something else though
@@junioradult6219 I guess so, but also, we have such a busy schedule, Slot has to look after players. We’ve been noticing TTA’s reaction to being subbed. But he had a good game and once he inverts, opposing teams just aim for the RB area. It’s been predictable since Klopp… then TTA gets BS off pundits for being a bad defender…I just hope he stays. YNWA
Despite Chelsea’s stats I thought on another day we would have beat them by more. I can’t work out why the defender didn’t get sent off and the disallowed penalty? Got to say Trent looks very cold towards slot??? He doesn’t look like a player who’s going to re sign 😢
Slots game plan ia based on what he perceives the opponents will do and plans his game around that. Liverpool was intent on not being caught in transition. Indo expect the next game to be similar.
Great post match synopsis. I thought we were really solid without being dominant. Chelsea have an array of talent but no one who has the creativity to unlock our defence. Be interesting to see how he prioritises midweek with arsenal next Sunday.
@DavidLynch Would u consider to give Kelleher a long term contract and let injury-prone Allison walk or is the gap between them that big so to try to hold Ali? (Just your very personal opinion)
Why did VAR choose only one angle for the referee to look at ?? Why wasn't he shown both angles because the angle from behind the keeper for me looked like dangerous play. Clearly went over the top of the ball & took out Jones. Jones could have broken his neck.
It truly amazes me how surprised our own fans are at how good Jones was today🤔🤷♂️. He's so clearly one of the best players in the league when he gets a few games in a row, and some rhythm about his game. It really ISN'T surprising to me this performance, I don't get it. Our fans have been saying he isn't good enough for years now, but their opinions are so clearly recency biased, based on how he performs after an injury. So blind by our own fans.
I preached for years against the high line philosophy of Klopp. Slot listened. His team plays more opportunistic, not this pedal-to-the-metal-gegenpressing that makes you vulnerable.
"Trent can't defend" has become a favourite knee-jerk trope of the Liverpool hating pundits for several years now. It's the same lazy hate that they gave Darwen with his "inability to score" problem. And the "selfish Salah who always went down too easily" thing. It was never informed by the players' performances, it is motivated entirely by those critics deep desire to "rubbish everything positive connected to Liverpool. If Jones gets more game time going forward, I wonder which "flaw" they'll invent for him?
YES. Absolutely. Slot might be comfortable controlling the game without possession but given everything he's said in public, there's no way his preferred way of control is without possession. Lawrence McKenna's take that this was Slot's plan to control the game was absolutely piss poor on this front and just naively positive in the extreme.
@@grahamshaw3802 Oh, absolutely. For sure. But the way Loz was waxing lyrical about how we played. It's gassing up Arne Slot without admitting we weren't able to impose our preferred way to play, at home, against a team that has been in transition and chaos for several seasons now. It was frankly nauseating.
Having more possession during the game and not having any quality outcome is akin of having loads money in your wallet, waking around the mall doing nothing with it. I believe this will not be the norm, more of the opposition that the team is facing, that the manager relinquishing possession to Chelsea for a change of tactical tweak. Make your opposition play to what you want.
It wasn't a bad performance against chelsea. They should of had another penalty and very close to a gapko goal. Chelsea played well in spells, but didn't deserve to win.
I think we should add pressing to depending. That will give us more possession and control . We shouldn't allow teams to be coming at us; rather we should make teams scared of us.Again, too much backward passing.
The way Slot plays his main striker is used as a decoy. Thats why Nunez gets very few chances even though there was many times diaz, gakpo, Szobo and Salah had an easy pass to him in dangerous areas they did not do it opting to pass to the 3rd runner or pass back. Hence why Jota suffers too. There is an FSG PR agenda in YT comments to smear nunez as he is a top valuable player targeted to be sold and flip him for a profit. Thats why even when Jota is worse this season scoring only 2 goals in 7 games, you don't hear a peep in these comments sections because he is injury prone and has no resale value and reaching 27 years old. FSG buy low sell high racket for 14 years makes millions and there plenty to share for these media f wits. The match going fans knows it and thats why you us chanting his name loudly, we can see and understand what these FSG are doing.
Not happy with liverpool performance, why did liverpool stop the press,Sobo, needs to improve,he was poor, and the disallowed goal by gakpo, the ball to Sarah was delivered late, midfielders need to release the balls early.
if my beloved reds play like that against manchester city and arsenal, city and the gunners will sub off their stars at half-time for the reserves to coast to three points.
I’ve been a critic at times but for me this was one of his better performances this season. He kept the ball better and used it well, certainly more than he has in previous games.
