My favorite amplifier of all time is the Dan D’agostino momentum m400 monos. After years of upgrading starting from an arcam a38 to Hegel h360 then Krell duo is 300xd and then classe delta separates. I now been able to purchase my endgame amps with the m400 monos and the momentum hd pre-amp. If you get a chance to try D’Agostino I recommend that you give them a listen.

From Stereophile: Harmonic Distortion is uglily high for an high-end amp: With 1kHz sinewave: 2nd harmonic -70dB, 3rd harmonic -61dB, 5th -85dB, ... If your goal is High Fidelity not Colored sound go for amps like Benchmark AHB2.

I think you hit the nail on the head as to what the hobby is about. Not trying to own the best there is, there is always trade offs, so I find nothing can be perfect. I feel it should always be about finding that combo of gear that is just simply fun to listen to.

You should look into mini-split ductless air and heat. My listening room is in a converted detached garage, I had a Samsung system installed and it is nearly silent. The cold air just flows out with no duct noses. Highly recommended. Enjoy your amps year around not to mention the addition of heat in the winter. Check out the RU-vid videos. FYI.

I feel that I am getting everything that you describe from my system….yet all my components are different. As long as we arrive in a place where the sound suits our ears..that is all that matters. No system is perfect.. but it is fun to pursue that quest.

Heat aside, am I right to assume you like the Pass Labs more than the Enleum Amp 23r? I can't help but wonder it's an issue of synergy since the Denafrips Terminator Plus went back.
@HiFiHuff
@HiFiHuff 2 года назад
The Terminator is a DAC and the Enleum and Pass are both wonderful but very different. The Denafrips had better synergy with the Enleum as that amp is a bit tipped up and all about wide open detail and energy. The Terminator is a bit laid back so they go well together. The Pass amps are a touch laid back, so with the Denafrips it could be too much of a good thing. The Enluem is a more exciting listen, the Pass a more layered and richer listen. Neither is really better than the other, all depends o what you are hooking them up to really. Thank you.

Keep trying new stuff :). Pass is kinda known for their lack of bass and bass control but they do have a tube like midrange, even though they don’t have tube like depth. I do agree that the XP20 level pre is the perfect match for the pass amps though and there isn’t much better looking.

@@mariodrv I have had a pair of XA100.5’s, X350.5, X250, XP10, XP20. None of them had great bass. The XP20 definitely helped the amps sound their best though but it’s still solid state. There isn’t a SS amp on the market that gives the depth tubes give to the instruments. Heck when I had the XA100.5’s the little Rogue M180’s smoked them in pretty much all regards, including bass. They were about $6000 tube mono blocks for reference. My hypothesis is that to soften the midrange in an attempt to give it a tube like mid they end up softening the entire spectrum. At this point why not just use tubes. You get the natural midrange that a tube amp produces but without softening the rest of the spectrum. Now if you are using stuff like Primaluna or Conrad Johnson, then yeah your entire sound is pretty much soft. But, when using linear tube product like Zesto, Rogue, newer Audio Research etc it’s kinda the best of both worlds. I know there are a lot of pass super fans and their products are some of the coolest looking stuff out there, they just never really blew me away.

I love the sound of the Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated amp. It's a bit more mellow (sweet) sounding compared to Diablo 300 The Diablo 120 is a little gem, capable and versatile but always, always ready to put the music first, with superb timing and dynamic coherence, a ready sense of rhythm and dynamic impact.

Have the 300 and agree it is more neutral but the bass is awesome and in some ways gives the amp a "bottom up" sound. Gryphon IMO is on another level from Pass.

After whole my life experierience I have i bit different opinion. If I switch on amplifier (system) and my mind starts to analyze correctness of any harmonc frequency then I suspect whole performance is rather affected. In system developed by me I cannot follow in sound any specific frequecy because each presented sound is too much blend, mix of all of them. Only by switching to another amplfier I notice if the low range is like nearer and rest behind while first presents more emotional music. But it is not my goal to have bass as leading - my goal is to make all harmonics equal and to have no clue about any specific range. Frankly - I am not like you and wouldnt persuade You to like what I like. By way - Your speakers look amazing in that spacious place. I never search, wait for lowest bass except to make myself sure that my speakers and amplifier can deliver them down to bottom. Only CAN - not to enjoy them right from any music at instance . It works for me probably also because my system is considered today mild power and sure to make great loud bass is even not capable. But that I do not wait for from it, may be because I listen to complex sounding music and instruments

The SN3 is a $5k integrated amp. The Pass Labs separates with pre amp retail for around $25k. The Pass Separates are much more refined. They offer a much more holographic soundstage, sound bigger, richer, and more layered. The SN3 is FANTASTIC for an integrated amp, but can not compete with Pass separates.
