To anyone looking for a thermometer for their Buono kettle in North America, the Thermoworks RT301WA fits the vent holes of the Buono kettle (and likely other kettles, it's a small diameter probe).

Hey Vince! What are your thoughts on the EKG Stagg? I'm more into espresso but have been eyeing the Stagg. Some baristas I've talked to love/hate the Stagg for pour-overs but curious what you thought. Thanks for the video.
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 3 года назад
Hey Brian! Sorry about the late late late reply ughz. I can't believe I forgot to check comments. The stagg kettle is definitely a great kettle. It is just that it is a bit heavy .. the counter balance is very nice though. I just find myself holding it in a weird position when I use it! The one thing I will say is .. we bought one and use one because it is arguably one of the best looking kettles on the market. The electric heating system makes it extremely attractive as well! Happy Holidays!

Since your technique uses a small amount of water much cooler than a boil, that plastic Hario air kettle would be perfect & completely affordable. If I had started using the Tales v60 technique before I bought like ten different kettles, I might have just gone with that lol

With the Timemore kettle design, are you able to pour close to the grounds on the opposite end without accidentally hitting the cone?
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 3 года назад
Hey! Happy holidays! Yes I actually am! It's because you would need to have the kettle more tilted so your angle is much higher. Thus you're able to get much closer to the grounds without hitting the cones!! That is an extremely important part of that kettle. For the best coffees I think this is probably one of the top picks because of the shape!

Thermostatically adjustable electric seems to be the way to guy I'll save the extra cash required but look for a smaller and lighter size. Great video Thanks! P.S. This hobby ain't cheep but what you save from buying at the local shops offsets the cost. I'll still go to my favourite shop only 3 times a week now.

Hey Vince! What do you think about the electric version of the Hario Buono kettle with exact temperature control? I’m considering getting one but is it true that the wattage is incompatible with US electric sockets and it could potentially break the kettle if used in America?
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE Год назад
Hey! The electric one is alright, I thought they always heat to the max anyways but come with a thermometer .. dang I see the new one now. If it has a control for the temperature I think it would be a great addition to any counter top! They pour the best anyways imo!

Hey Vince, long time no see! What do you think of the hario enamel kettle? How is the heat retention?
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE Год назад
I don't think heat retention is a HUGE issue, we tend to brew most of the coffees in a short time anyways. So I tend to buy gear more cause of looks. The enamel kettle is good looking though, but I actually have one .. and the spout doesn't work that great for coffee. For teas it's definitely good though!

Hey Vince, thanks for the great content! Just had a question, have you tried or what is your opinion on the fellow stagg kettles, specifically the EKG? They look very interesting but I’m worried because they don’t seem to have a wide flow range. I like the temperature control of the kettle. I’m also considering getting a temperature controlled hario buono kettle but shipping will take awhile from japan and it about ~$30 more us.
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 3 года назад
Hey Tim! You're welcome! Glad you like it, umm f or the EKG I find them a bit heavy. They have very good temperature retention so they don't lose heat during the brew but it could be a bit of a strain on your wrists imo. The control is good though ^^
@TJ74su
@TJ74su 3 года назад
@@TALESCOFFEE thanks for the response Vince! I recently found a good open box deal on an electric buono kettle (non temperature controlled) so I may pass on the EKG. Most people seemed to love the EKG, but some have stated it pours too slowly
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 3 года назад
@@TJ74su You're welcome! I don't have an issue with the pouring rate. It's speed is fine I think, I think the weight and the angle of pour is not ideal for me. The open box sounds good. I do like those ^^ don't really need a temp control it's fine, you can work around it ^^

@TALESCOFFEE

Honestly I think most of it comes down to what you think looks better. I personally think the buono performs a touch better. But the staff at 50% off isn’t bad!! It’s just a bit heavy :3
@tippykaffu4047
@tippykaffu4047 2 года назад
Since you like the Timemore so much, do you have the electric version as well? I had been using the Stagg kettle and it was a little heavy at first but that was never a problem anymore. I really enjoyed how easy it is to control the flow rate from slow to fast pouring. It took few weeks to get used to it.
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 2 года назад
I don’t. I don’t ever think electric is necessary and it makes the kettles a bit heavier then you’d want them to be. My favourites are the timemore and the buono 700ml

I got a buono and i've been using it for around 10 times now, but for some reason i still get super metallic taste that is so offputting. I washed it a few times with dishwashing soap and boiled it a few times before my first use. I've been using mineral water and not tap water. some people recommend scrubbing the insides or using baking soda left overnight, but i worry i will ruin the precious kettle. Any thoughts on this?
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 3 года назад
Are you still getting a metallic taste? Hmmm, even with having water in it at a rolling boil? Hmmmm this isn’t something I’ve experienced myself. When I do wash my kettles thougu I use baking soda. It’s a very gentle thing for the kettle. I’ve made mistakes of boiling milk in the kettle and milk getting stuck .. ahaha so I do scrub gently and use baking soda myself. But scrub gently don’t like press down >.>

Hey, actually I have a question about boiling water in kasuya's kettle. In description of kettle they say that you can't boil water in it. So do you actually boil water in it? I'm looking for some small kettle for outdoor coffee making and it's pretty important feature for me.

Why do you recommend the 700ml Buono kettle as opposed to the 1 liter? I notice on the Hario website that the 700ml kettle is made in China, while the 1.0 and 1.2L kettles are made in Japan.
@TALESCOFFEE
@TALESCOFFEE 2 года назад
I personally don't think where it's made makes a difference :P but the 700ml is smaller, weighs less and has the ideal shape for the angle of the water. At least that's what I personally believe!
@mv28
@mv28 2 года назад
@@TALESCOFFEE Many folks online seem to find that the Chinese-made products are often inferior. Here is an interesting comparison between the Chinese and Japanese-made Buono: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BM_rR-JoY80.html
@TALESCOFFEE

@@mv28 I see, I personally think the smaller size is better. If anything I would recommend the timemore, but it's a bit small and the spout is a bit too vertical. I think the 700mL is my favourite, the build I haven't had any issues with. It just pours best and is the lightest which is what I think is the best :) Regardless of build quality, it's good enough for what I want and how well it works for me ^^
@mv28
@mv28 2 года назад
@@TALESCOFFEE Cool. And it's always possible that your Buono was made before they started outsourcing to China. As I understand it, that is a relatively recent development. I was initially going to go for the 700ml, but they are out of stock on the Hario website right now, and the 500ml "practical capacity" they suggest was a little too borderline for one of my big coffee mugs, so I decided more wiggle room wouldn't be a bad idea and got the 1L Buono.

I just saw this 😂 we have one too but definitely not recommended. It’s a little heavy and the counter weight encourages pouring from a higher and more vertical point but the spout is designed more for curves. Not the biggest fan.
