Best line that never made it into the movie…i know it was off brand for the scene for vader to talk, but he lines from the book during the seps death was gold
I actually do remember Shu-Mai! She was a major character in the novel The Approaching Storm, which takes place between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones!
Can we just talk about the irony in Shu-Mai's death? She was remorseless yet she tried to beg for her life when it was far too late. I honestly just imagine Anakin/Vader saying that while giving a troll face, because he does a bit of trolling. XD
Shu-Mai: I"ve just bought the planet back. Gossam People: YAY! Shu-Mai: You'll now need to work triple the hours to meet your new quotas and earn enough to pay the massive rent I'll be imposing. Gossam People: Oh, come on! Shu-Mai: Would you rather I poison the water supply and burn this planet to the ground? Gossam People: The new workload is fine, ma'am. Shu-Mai: I thought you'd see things my way.
The main commerce guild were similar to many other Separatist members. San Hill, Nute Gunray, and Wat Tambor from their "conglomerates" were no better, all desired profit and power over their planets well being.
The fact that you describe General Grevious as a genocidal maniac, and then say he can’t hold a candle to Shu-Mai, tells you just how dark this video will be. That being said, the ROTS Novelisation says in the intro that Grevious was, indeed, the worst of the Separatist Leaders. “Grevious, though…Grevious was a monster”
The novelisation didn't say he was the worst, just that he was overtly evil while Dooku was better at coming off as civilised. It was from a Republic POV if I remember correctly and it was commenting on the propaganda effect of an attack by Grevious on the population of Coruscant
I heard of a part of the Clone Wars (event) where he tried using some brutal enslavement technique involving forced cybernetics. On CHILDREN. Vader at his WORST would only KILL them, while being DISCUSTED with even the most TAME forms of slavery.
@@matthewkalasky2891 Vader might have been disgusted with slavery but he still enforced it on the galaxy under the Empire, and he attempted to enslave or actually enslaved countless children as well.
I'd like to hear more about the other Separatist Council Leaders. Nute Gunray got a lot of the spotlight in Phantom Menace, and he was one of the Separatist bigwigs but what did he expect to happen? What was his goal for the Clone Wars? And San Hill, the banker that seemed so eager and high and mighty when the treaty was being signed. All these people had different goals, even Dooku, had a different vision for the galaxy when the war was finally over. The only one who saw their goals realized... was Palpatine.
And Gunray, who, amungst other things, is the sort to try and sell anyone and everyone else out to save himself, and Poggle, who did that whole "Geanosian brain worm" thing.
I remember Shu-Mai being the main antagonist and twist villain in that weird Star Wars: Kinect game. Her being there made me question the decision when I first played it. Now I wonder why Shu-Mai hasn't been used more frequently. She was the literal embodiment of pique corporate evil on a galactic scale.
She would have contested Sidious' schemes if they were to meet late into their respective careers, & went for each other's throats if they were to meet early. Taking her as an apprentice wouldn't have been an option for Sidious, as she was too damn vile to be manipulated & kept around. Ironically, the galaxy as a whole wound have benefitted more if they were both Siths & gone against each other.
An people say THESE guys was supposed to be the good guys. I'd said Palpatine/Darth Sideous WAS the most LITERALLY evil member. seeing as he also LITERALLY played just about EVERYONE else. Not being found out till the very end, an then only by a few, whom were too late to stop in and drastically and very much underestimated just how strong and a threat he really was. THIS alien chick was basically an equivalent to one the "Dragon Queens" of ancient Asia
I would argue they are, by design and intention, as well as the common members among the separatists, including some separatist leaders. Its only because they relied heavily on these greedy and evil monsters that their cause was tainted so badly.
To be fair, when they say good guys they're probably referring to the Separatist Senate, not the cabal of rich greedy James Bond villains on the war council. The Separatist Cause was based on a legitimate concern, but was warped and twisted by the select few.
Hitler was an evil genocidal bastard (no shit Sherlock) a d like all dictators, lives meant nothing to him. For example, towards the end of the war, he issued the infamous Nero Decree which was a scorched earth policy, calling for the destruction of everything that the Allies and Soviets could use.
Hitler may not have cared about Germany, since he ordered an absurd scorched earth policy that no one followed. Hitler cared about Germany for a while, because they were his power base, and once they were spent he wanted them to die as well since in defeat they had proved unworthy of him.
10:30 I'm sure Anakin was well aware of all those things, and used whatever disgust he had about them to enhance his sadistic views as Vader when killing her and the others, hence his yellow eyes.
yes, he was reluctant when fighting the jedi and obi-wan, but he felt absolutely no pity for the separatists and was able to just go full medieval on their asses.
Geetsly's when talking about how Anakin enjoyed killing Shu-Mai: "Bad Anakin, happy killing is wrong!" Geetsly's when talking about how bad Shu-Mai was: "You go, Anakin, get her!"
@@isimiel3405 well, the episode was released before Lucasfilm's sale under Filoni and Lucas, soooo it's actually happened on the Legends timeline too. "This Legends party's over" - Mace Windu, maybe.
@@yoavmor9002 He totally did though. He wouldn't disagree with her philosophy at all, he would just be amused that someone as weak and shortsighted as she was thought it would do her any good.
@@jonathancampbell5231 Nah, that's not what Palpatine is about. Palpatine is all about power. He wouldn't disagree with her philosophy, because he doesn't really have a philosophy, and he sees people having philosophies as week. He would also probably view her as week as well
@@yoavmor9002 He's a Sith. He follows Sith philosophy. He is about power, but he looks down on notions of good and evil much like she does because they get in the way of attaining power.
Her election slogan probably goes 'She killed my ma, she killed my pa, but I will still vote for her.' Glad she was turned into cantonese Siu Mai by Vader's lightsaber A steamy bowl of Gossam Siu Mai
It's refreshing to see how much depth the Separatists get via the novelizations. Grevious saw the Republic steal victory over his people's centuries long oppressors, the murderers of his wife. He saw the desecration of his culture's most sacred sites and his people reduced to crippling poverty, so much so that he was willing to swallow his own pride and honor and sell himself into slavery to the Banking Guild. All because the Republic couldn't mind their own business. Even without the Siths manipulation his hatred for the Jedi and the Rebublic would have turned him into a monster. Shu-Mai grew up in a world so crippled by sanctions that sentient life was worth less then a scrap of food. All because some bureaucrats half a Galaxy away felt like it. Not because they had to, but because they could. She didn't escape any of this because of the kindness of another, but because of her own ruthlessness. Why would she develop a value of sentient life? Ironically, the Republic created some of it's most monstrous enemies.
No, its deliberate. Keeps people invested in fictional worlds while doing it for real right under their noses. When people do notice they get called conspiracy theorists and ignored regardless of the strength of their points because those not paying attention subconsciously connect those ideas with fiction and fairly tales and have been trained from birth to be cognitively dissonant.
This character makes me think of these Sload people from the Elder Scrolls universe as their entire species was like this character as they viewed acts of Cruelty torture murder and exploitation as signs of one's intelligence and are things that made you a good person. In their culture if you killed a child then you are a good and morally just person worthy of praise but if you help one you are a traitorous liar
Ok, I'm gonna put a *lot* of things aside and just talk about Vader quote in the novel: "You don't find me handsome?" Did Anakin carry his snarky sense of humor into his initial transformation into Darth Vader?
Could you do one on San Hill and explain where the hell he was during most of the war since despite many episodes on the clone wars exploring the banking clan, we didn’t see him. I’d also like one on poggle and tambor just to see what they were in third dimensions
I'd love to hear you talk more about Wat Tambor. From the Clone Wars show, we know just enough about him to know he probably has an interesting story or two in there.
The ROTS novelization makes me desire a cut where Hayden subjects the Separatist leadership to his comedy routine as he kills them. Anakin/Vader silently slaughtering them was scary enough, but if his replies to their pleas for mercy were dad jokes that are actually funny, that would show how far Anakin has fallen.
To be fair if you believe the Jedi planted a bomb on your spaceship killed your wife and child and left you looking like General Grievous you might be a genocidal maniac to
Sure, Darth Vader ushered in a new age of fascist terror upon the galaxy, but he also relieved Star Wars Ayn Rand of her head, so who's to say what's good or bad?
Hey, Sarge. You could have summed her up with a simple, "true sociopath." That's the definition of personal pragmatism over any type of moral structure.
Nah, at this juncture, she's gotten well past being a sociopath & could be defined by an even simpler & extreme term, 'psychopath'. She embodied the archetype of a psychopath so well that one would only need to look at her to find a living personification of the term.
I love the Separatist and I’m pro separatist I believe in the separatist cause but the Separatist council was awful, the Separatist senate didn’t even know how awful they really were. And the Separatist council would also go against the separatist senate in many cases.
You should do a video on what wealth was like in the Star Wars universe vs ours. Like how these companies make billions of credits, with a long time of that accumulating are they still just billionaires, or are they trillionaires, or higher?
Maybe there should be a way for the hive to communicate to other individuals for resources or enemies. I didnt see if you had anything capping killing or making it harder to get more ants, but i think that would work really well
