Oh, What A Night Always Together Stay In My Corner It's All Up To You The Love We Had Stays On My Mind RIP Johnny Carter and RIP Marvin Junior. Thanks for your amazing contributions!
I am James F Jr... The Love we had Stays on my Mind. One of the most Romantic and Beautiful Songs ever Stay in my Corner. Oh my goodness if you were any kind of Man this Song would get you hooked up and in for the Night. I am a Hopeless Romantic. So this Song I would still play for my Girl today. Thank you Dells. I Play this song again, and Again. Tears came to my eyes. Because of the Female I had a crush on. Don't go for the Girl You Love. Go for the Girl who Loves You !!! Peace, God Bless You.
THIS COMMENT IS BEING MADE BY ME, A WHITE MAN THAT A LONG TIME AGO I PLAYED R&B ON MY TRUMPET 🎺. I'M 81 YEARS OLD NOW AND THE MEMORIES ARE STILL WITH ME. THE MIGHTY DELLS WILL ALWAYS BE UNPARALLELED TO ME! RIGHT ON! RIGHT ON! BYE 4 NOW HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Ain’t NOTHING and NOBODY MALE OR FEMALE THAT CAN BEAT OLD SCHOOL SOUL MUSIC. These singers paid dues and paved the way for the ‘microwave’ entertainers of today in all genres!!!!! So grateful for the musical legacy they leave as they go HOME👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾When an elder dies- it’s like a LIBRARY closing!!!
In memory of late great Mr. Marvin Junior lead vocalist of the Mighty Mighty Dells it's been 6yrs since you left your earthly home we miss you soooooooo much rest easy friend you deeply miss your supporters May 29 2013 is very sad but you singing will Heavenly choir, rest on....till we meet again..the G.O.A.T gone but never forgotten, we love you...❤❤❤❤❤
If you weren't around to hear music in the 60's and 70's you really missed a great era of music. Even now looking back it brings such happy memories. These singers really knew how to make you feel what they were singing about. And they really gave us a performance, singing and the dance steps and the harmonizing was amazing. I miss this so much in today's music. But thanks for the memories.
Stay in my cornerr......with all due respect to Paul Williams, David Ruffin, Teddy Pendergast,Eddie Levert and Dennis EdwardsOn this jam Marvin proves that he was the greatest R&B baritone that ever lived.
Without a doubt. The power and beauty of his voice is unmatched. Together their voices on this song is so incredible it brings tears to my eyes. They were a cosmic force.
Here in 2017, Congratulations on receiving the Life Time Achievement Award from President Obama, the Dells are, were, and always will be MIGHTY!!! LUV, LUV.
Marvin Juniors voice is unbelievable. The entire group can sing and the band is excellent. Great mini concert. ❤❤ I saw this group at Radio City Hall and they were excellent.
The Dells and the Dramatics need to be given more respect and acknowledgement. The instruments played by the band and the vocals is amazing. The best group that ever existed in the music business. ❤❤❤
@Noco235 Motown was a huge success. The acts from other production teams like Gamble and Huff, Solar, STAX, etc.. were not given the same respect due to their music not crossing over to pop culture.
The Dells were the most humble group ever! There was no star in the lineup. Look at how they defer to each other. That's how they had the same members for so long.
Enjoy a new release featuring The Dells! Recorded in 2022 by Verne Allison Jr. (the son of our 2nd Tenor, Verne Allison Sr.), “Missin’ You” features never-released vocals of The Dells, as well as a guest appearance by Marvin Junior Jr (son of our lead singer, Marvin Junior Sr). " The Love We Had" is probably one of the greatest songs ever about lost love. The balance between baritone and tenor is flawless. Big Marvin and Johnny Carter work together like a fine tuned machine. There has never been anyone better, never. "But I'm not complaining" "Because that's how it goes" "There"s always some heartache in this world I suppose" "But you can't imagine, and nobody knows..........
I watch tos live everyday mostly I TRULY Enjoy this Great Group Best I have ever heard on my 67 years on THIS Earth I SIMPLYove Them The Music The Voices THIS BEst We E er Had
This group stands the test of time. Spectacular. Always remembered. I learned about love and life from heart felt lyrics like this. Thank you. Music is one of the greatest a compliments of man.
Marvin Junior was absolutely the precursor to Teddy P. These guys were the real deal. And that falsetto was the purest you’ll ever hear. Even today " Stay in my corner" could make young girls cry. New Edition?? Give me break...
Marvin was THEE greatest R&B voice of our time. Runners up TP & Bobby Lester ! The combination of Marvin Junior & Johnny Carters voices CAN NOT BE BEAT.......thats right I said it !
I was two when I heard the Dells. My dad and mom say that's when I started singing. I still love group singing and harmony. The Dells we're the best group in the world. Nobody can sing like the Dells. And anybody who told Marvin Jr. he couldn't sing was crazy crazy crazy.. I love I can sing a rainbow 🌈.
I grew up with this kind of music, and so glad I can find videos of them. I especially liked Marvin and Johnny Carter's voices! Wow! What voices! And they had class and respect in their music!
The pioneers the O’Jays are my favourite soul group but the Dells were one of the greatest to ever did it they inspire the likes of the O’Jays, Whispers and many others.
MARVIN's voice was the baddest at holding a note, but don't let us forget about JOHNNY's falsetto he could captivate the audience and fans would be spellbound. All in all, THE GREATEST MALE GROUP EVER!!🥰
Marvin was the man... He give birth to David Ruffin, Teddy Pendergrass, Johnny Gill and myself......May he rest in peace. Thanks for sharing your gifts.
I would say though the original version of "O what a night" predates David Ruffin with the Temptations, I would consider them contemporaries with Ruffin being the much bigger star in the sixties.
Stuart Perry Ruffin was the bigger star because he had the Motown machine behind him. You give Marvin that machine and the tempts would have been just as good if not better. Marvin Junior never got his just due.

I remember this performance on Ellis Haizlip's Television show SOUL! SOUL! was the first of it's kind and not just fab performances, Ellis had actors, poets, & civil rights activists on each show. Never missed it! It was on New York's Channel 13 which also was a PBS back then. The show ran from 1968 - 1973. Not to be confused with Soul Train which came along later. ✌👏👏
The Unparalleled Dells! Watching this now, touches my Soul. It just proves to me, there is a God Almighty. There has to be because no group could sing like this it's got to be a Blessing from Our God Lord. How in the name of Jesus Christ could any group sing like their singing now, without Our Lord takin' a likin' to 'em!! Impossible without God being there with them singing right along with the Mighty DELLS! I'm a former R&B Trumpet Player. Remember this folks, "Soul ain't nothin' but a feelin' "! As Always, God Bless You and Yours Take Care and Stay Safe ya' hear from Michael!. I'm also a former United States Army Military Police Officer as well as a former Certified Chief-of-Police in the Great State of Georgia. I sought Justice not INJUSTICE! Bye 4 now ❤🎉.
This song is such a treasured classic. The Dells were an awesome group. A unique blend of superior voices that to this day has not been duplicated. African American Men Rhythm & Blues Quintets have such a important and vital role in Soul Music. The Dells, The Temptations, The Dramatics, The Manhattans, The Jackson 5ive, the list goes on and on and the sound lives forever. Often imitated but never duplicated.
I second that! No other voice, unmatched between Marvin Junior, & Johnnie Carter. RIP!!! Rest in Peace! We'll SURELY MISS You All!!! Even the 2 that are still left!!!
I have to show this to my grandfather. His brother was Marvin Jr. and I had never seen him so hurt then when I walked into the house after he found out he was gone. He's going to love watching this. RU-vid is known for some pretty ridiculous stuff but this is pretty awesome.
I remember when I was a little girl, my cousin and I snuck in this club, underage but slipped to the front of the stage and this group was singing. As a child of was mesmerized!🎵🎶🎵🎸🙂🧡💚💙💜🧡
I've listened to this concert about 2 dozen times since I first found it and it never gets old. The greatest music to raise your soul up to the highest level of happiness and well being. This great singers were one of the soundtracks of my youth and they are still here giving me so much enjoyment in my old age. Johnny Carter and Marvin Jr. two of the greatest voices in the universe staying in my corner for all eternity.
Let's discussed what really happened. When Leonard Chess told Marvin Junior (you are not a singer) was when The Dells known as (The Elrays) were still in High School. We had recorded a song called 'DARLING I KNOW' and our first royalty check was $16.95. We were so angry that we got our release, went across the street and signed with VJ, changed our name. Long story short - We recorded the Original, Oh What a Night on Vee Jay, Moved to New York, lived in Harlem until I (mickey) got hurt in an automobile accident (Ohio Turnpike) We never received a Royalty Check from Vee Jay Records, and they released The Dells & The Impressions on the same day. The Dells went back to Chess, Bobby Miller was our new producer and Charles Stepney was our arranger. our first check from Leonard Chess was $50,000 (which refutes that 'Cadillac Records' Movie. The Impressions went to ABC Records, and became stars.. Vee Jay folded and declared Bankruptcy. The Dells became STARS Michael (mickey) McGill (The Dells Baritone). View The Dells, Award Winning Emmy, 'Oh What A Night' on RU-vid part 1 2 3
The last two songs, It’s All Up to You and The Love We Had Stars on My Mind, both Terry Callier compositions. Beautiful songs in the hands of master vocalists always works.
As sad as it is to say and believe R.I.P. Marvin Junior who passed away this afternoon (5/29/13) HUGE loss.....my prayers go out to Marvin's family, friends, and fans, and his Dells family Chuck, Verne, and Michael...
This is 2021, who or what group do you know that can blow like this? There aren't any. Listening to them just send chills down my back. How gifted they are.
They are definitely GREAT🔥vocals beyond on point. Give them their credits/flowers…… plus in my humble opinion we have been blessed with a group in 2021-22 that also can “blow, dance , band is a killer, musicians vibing while playing instruments and a lead singer that can set a high range, vocals or any cord on Sweet Fire..I’m grateful we are here to see and hear both according to our preferences 💯💫👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🔥
@@dimitrijackson9474 mr Jackson what the hell are you talking about ??? I LOVED THE DELLS. My review clearly Said they were burning down the room. I loved so many of their songs it was a true blessing to discover them again. FACTS matter. The love we had stays on my mind still makes me sad. My husband and I ALWAYS danced to that !!!!❌‼️
@@dimitrijackson9474 additionally regardless of what you think I said or meant that’s why we ALL have opinions and Ears ! I don’t hate on successful anything. I celebrate people blessings. My thought of a blessing might not line up with yours but I think that’s called LIFE. 💯👀🤣
The note Marvin Junior hit and held on "I Can Sing a Rainbow" is freaking inhuman. I think Johnny Gill is the only male R&B artist in this present day with the range and power to sustain that note.
The DELLS are a very important part of my life... they bring the sweetest memories to me and take me back to a very special time that I will never forget.. I dedicate these songs to my 2 beloved angels who are in heaven now...
Just listening to Mr Cater`s sweet falsetto on " The love we had stays on my mind ", his back ground harmony and vocals were flawless, not knocking the others, but his is perfect, you can't help but notice it. Love the Mighty Dells. 💖
One of the best groups of ALL times! I'm constantly listening to their masterpieces. I would've LOVED to see them LIVE!!!!!!! Much love & hats off to these legendary singers.......let's give them a Standing Ovation!!!!!💕
you can't understand and realize the power of Marvins voice unless you could have seen them perform live, he voice litterally could knock down walls I've never heard a voice that powerful
I love the Dells so much. I enjoyed this clip immensely. Beautiful harmonies, gifted singers. Shout out to the band as well. Gotta show this to my kids. I raised them on this kind of music.

Me to I have introduced my children to this quality of music and many other very talented and intelligent artists that have set the standards and maintained them the entire time!
I try hard to like today's music and refrain from comparisons, but today's music never touches my soul. To truly feel something, I am forced to You Tube and listen to such greats as the Dells, the Ojays, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, Teddy Pendergrass, etc. Man, I miss good music.

WOW... NOW THIS IS THE MUSIC I GREW UP ON.... THESE GUYS HAD "TRUE" TALENT !!! THE MUSIC TODAY JUST CANT STAND UP TO THE MUSIC OF MY DAY, YOU REALLY HAD TO HAVE SOME TALENT TO BE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS!!!
You know, I missed out on the Dells early on because my love for music was Motown in the 60's and Doo Wop in the 50's but when I started listening to the Dells I could believe what a fantastic group they were. Now I'm pushing 74 and I listen to them all the time along with so many other groups. When I first heard "There Is" I couldn't play it enough. OMG! So awesome.
The baddest harmonizing group that ever graced the stages were The Mighty Dells. I know the members that have passed on are singing and serenading those that have transitioned into SOUL HEAVEN! and they’re Receiving a STANDING OVATION!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 ❤❤❤❤❤
You will have no idea how good the Mighty DELLS make my Soul feel so very good. When Marvin, two tons of fun, said the Soldier was leaving for Vietnam. Thank you for mentioning that in your words. As I listen to y'all sing it takes my breath away! As Always, May Almighty God Bless You and Yours, Take Care and Stay Safe ya' hear!! From me, Michael! Former United States Army Military Police Officer as well as a former Certified Chief-of-Police in the Great State of Georgia. Finally, I'm a former R&B Trumpet Player. I had the time of my life playin' that Horn. I was stationed at Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico in the United States Army. Joe Turner, our leader heard me play and I didn't know he was listening to me. As I passed by him on the way out of the Gym He asked me, "Do you want to play in a band" I couldn't believe what he just asked me. I said, "Yes I do." Thank you Joe! I'll never forget you when I met you in 1962. Bye 4 now y'all!❤🎉
