The Bulls dynasty ended in 1998 after their 6th title, yet, nobody ever asks why. They were still on top, Michael still had plenty of good years left, and there’s no doubt they could’ve retooled to attempt a few more runs. This is the story of why they all agreed to call it quits before they had to. @@suppaman12 I mean Krause was a huge part of it. To come out and say a 5 time championship team wasnt going to keep their coach before the season even started (even if they went 82-0) is pretty egotistical. Saying "players dont win championships, organizations do" clearly minimizes player effort and talent. It wasn't solely his fault but he certainly is a centerpiece for some major drama.

I disagree that he is a HOF that said the NBA does have low standards. Yes he won a championship, has a finals MVP and finished like 3rd one year in MVP voting all to go with 7 conference finals in a row and lik 6 all star appearances. But if your thinking of comparable players i say guys lik tony parker and kyle lowry. Guys who overachieved by finding a system that perfectly complements thier play style and being smart enough not to mess it up long enough to put together a long run of winning seasons as the floor general and go to guy late in games. Parker is a HOF Lowry isnt (yet, if they somehow win it this year he is by NBA standards but still shouldn't be imo) Billups is inbetween the 2. But none of those guys are guys i think of when i think of dominating players and thats mostly what the HOF should be for.

@@R.B.90 agreed for the most part except about Parker while it's true he benefited from the Spurs system he still was a very good player in his own right (as his international accomplishments show) also from 07-12 (basically his prime) it could be easily argued he was a top 5 pg in the league something lowry and billups have never been able to claim

Don't ever put the organization over the players. Yeah, the organization is mostly responsible for putting the team together, but at the end of the day and the chips are down, the players shoulder the organization. THey have to carry a team to victory and they're the ones who have to accommodate their egos for the good of the team. THe organization can't quite literally declare themselves the winners of games. THe players put their brains and bodies together to form a cohesive unit.

@@vt248 of course Jordan was the main reason on the court that the Bulls won, but he didn't win until Scottie joined up and Phil became coach. In '87 it was Seattle that drafted Scottie but Krause had the wherewithal to trade Olden Polynice and future draft pick options for him. Prior to coaching the Bulls, Phil regularly sought NBA jobs, but was turned down. Then in '87 Krause brought him in as an assistant head coach and ultimate promoted him to head coach in '89. He put together so many pieces to compliment Phil's system as well as MJ and Scottie's playing style. Krause was one of the most vital reason's the Bulls dynasty ever existed. To deny that is just foolish.

If u know MJ personality at all them u should know by that time the game was boring for him, for most of his carreer he had to go through the bad boys pistons and the Celtics, once he got over the hump what else was there for him to do? For most people money and fame are incentive, but the guy already did everything by age 27 plus had/has built one of the best sneekers brand in Basktball history until this days Jordans sell more than any other Nike shoe, and even feeling like that he played and got 5 more chips back to back comon thats unheard off, and with no game 7 at finals.

Every time I hear this story it gets me upset. But, statistically speaking, this 98 Bulls team and that roster still had some good basketball left in them. This team beat the Jazz 96-54 in game 4 of the 98 Finals and everyone thought the series was gonna be over after game 5, but Karl Malone had a monster game 5. Jordan even stated in an interview with Amhad Rashad for his 50th birthday that that Bulls team had about 3 good years left in them.

4:16 "He felt like he'd drafted Jordan." Krause didn't draft Jordan. Jordan was drafted in 1984. Krause didn't join the Bulls until 1985, a full year after Jordan had joined the Bulls. You can credit him with building the team around Jordan, but he did *not* draft the greatest player of all time. That honor goes to Naismith Hall of Famer Rod Thorn, who would later go on to build 1992's legendary Dream Team (with Jordan as the main centerpiece) and later win Executive of the Year in the early 2000's after building the Nets franchise that won the Eastern Conference and went to the finals two years in a row (the Nets' first ever, and as of this moment, only ever Finals appearances)!

And also the animosity between Krausse and Jordan and Pippen began when Krausse started wooing Kukoc to come to Bulls in the early 90s and Jordan and Pippen felt like 'We are winning championships and you are giving more importance to some guy who never played in the US before?' and to prove a point at the Olympics between the USA and Croatia both Jordan and Pippen made sure that Kukoc would have ZERO impact just to prove a point to Krausse

But i think they would've barely pulled through but i now don't think they would've beaten the spurs because of the bigs the spurs had and how tough that team was to beat.

fitness65 Carlos hill The nba was better in the 90s. It wasn’t so annoying with all the talk from the media and nba fans spending too much time predicting where free agents will play next season and you never heard about coaches getting fined for tampering for saying good things about other players.

Who’s watching this after watching the last dance? Corrections: Krause didn’t draft Jordan which might’ve explained his insecurities with Jordan being so great. Also Jordan wanted to come back but with Phil and Puppen on the move it made it very challenging. Plus J.Reinsdorf didn’t make enough overtures to MJ convincing him to stay.

James155 Jordan played for free donated his contract to 9/11 victims and was injured from training camp until he had kneee surgery and was schooling dude on the 3rd worse team in the nba when he joined at 38-40 years old setting records. 26-21 on Feb 7 before his knee that needed draining finally was getting so bad Coach Collins said Jordan was playing on one leg and Jordan still kept trying to play for a few more weeks on it. Jordan was playing with a meniscus tear, back spasms, 2 cracked ribs, wrist tendinitis, tendinitis in his opposite knee and he cut a bone in his shooting hand a few years earlier that was removed so he could no longer grip the ball like he used to and was retired the previous 3 seasons before! Issues with upper management and being forced to carry a larger load while his co-star is rehabbing all while near the end of his prime? This is all stuff that doesn’t come to light because media now portrays it as “MJ with 2 HOF’s omg so much help.” Every all-time great has to go through their own struggles throughout the season but stick it out to get the job done. That year the Bulls just had a feeling of finality to them. Even though it wasn't really discussed publicly it was understood that '98 was it for them. To compound this it was reported that Scottie was drunk on the back of the team bus and demanded a trade early that season and Jordan sniping at Rodman and telling Kerr he shouldn't have came back. I think that internal turmoil was a huge factor in the vulnerability they had that year more so than any physical wear and tear but still I believe if they held that group together they would've won in '99 it being a lockout and being the most experienced squad would've got them through imo.

I hate to break it to you all but in a match between the dream team and the warriors I see the warriors take it thanks to Jonas Jerebko. This man is single handily keeping warriors in the game with his HOF type play. It’s a shame that people think KD Steph and Klay carry this team. Without Jerebko down low they wouldn’t get those open looks that they get. He should win an MVP, has less playoff losses than the every single player on the dream team. He carries them to victory. And his own depression. Read his picture autobiography, "For the Love of the Game." His depression is what lead to his retirements. He says so (or at least, describes so) himself. You are correct though. The franchises' issues were indeed a *huge* factor leading to the depression that lead to *both* of his retirements (especially Krause himself, as MJ explains)! So yes, you are correct in that respect. If the franchise actually treated him like a human (not a piece of meat), didn't sow chaos and put obstacles in his way for *no* reason, and most importantly, took better care of him (and/or actually took his depression seriously), he *almost definitely* would've won them *multiple* more championships!

The Bulls could have been a viable playoff contender even with Jordan’s retirement had Krause not wanted to prove he was the second coming of Red Auerbach on a bad day. He could have tried to keep Pippen, instead of trading him to the Rockets. He could have kept Longley and made a stronger bid for free agent Antonio McDyess, who signed with Denver. Charles Barkley might have been lured to Chicago if the team was decent. And if the Bulls had at least made the playoffs, then maybe His Airness might have been tempted to come back for a playoff run at a seventh championship

@aregimechangeisimminent5781
@aregimechangeisimminent5781 5 лет назад
@@vt248 It's kinda of difficult to keep winning rings, when you start training camp with just 4 players on your roster like the Bulls did in 1999. That Bulls team finished dead last in the Central Division with a 13-37 record. Based on that result, I'll take my chances with resigning Pippen, with Toni Kukoc and Ron Harper still on the roster, not trading Luke Longley and Steve Kerr with the hope of landing a big time free agent like a Antonio McDyess or Tracy McGrady. At least, Pippen was still making the playoffs after he left the Chicago, while the Bulls accumulated a record of 30 wins and 102 losses over the next two years and didn't make the playoffs for another 5 years.
@aregimechangeisimminent5781

@@dashcash8538 We definitely agree. Jerry Krause was too consumed with wanting to be perceived by the public as the architect of the Bulls Dynasty and wanting to prove to himself and others, that he could build a team from scratch to win a title without the presence of Michael Jordan or Phil Jackson, instead of just making the correct decisions, that were best for the team.

The 1998 Bulls if you lived in Chicago and were a fan then you knew how tough that title run was and how vulnerable we looked but we did still in fact go 62-20 and only got 44 games from Pippen. It was Jordan’s greatest showing of his heart and desire to reach his goal.

VERY unlikely - they almost didn't make it out of THEIR OWN DIVISION in 1998, and the Pacers got BETTER in 1999 while the Bulls would have gotten a year older and worn down. There's also the factor that JORDAN would have had 2 more years of wear and tear on him - they likely wouldn't have won 1998. 7 straight, likely. 8, very unlikely. 9, no bloody way.
