In 1949, Bristol released a new lowbridge bus called the Lodekka. Designed it address the uncomfortable situation with low-roofed double deck buses of the time, it was quite successful. The problem was that sales were restricted only to state-owned bus companies.
In 1958, Dennis debuted its alternative - the Loline. This bus was actually an improvement over the Lodekka in some ways, and was a bus with the same characteristics that can now be sold to non-state-owned bus companies.
The problem is that the Loline was very limited in production, and a significant price increase was approved by Dennis, that led to order cancellations.
See an hear the story of the Dennis Loline!

The Oxford Lolines were the only non AEC buses in the fleet. Later low height buses arrived in the form of AEC Bridgemasters and Renowns. I didn’t know about the daft director! Many thanks.

I can remember when Reading Corporation Transport bought some Loline IIIs- late 1962- before that terrible winter began. It was the first front entrance bus I ever went on- the other buses in the fleet- apart from the trolleybuses were low bridge types. We also saw the Aldershot & District Loline buses in Reading- that BET company was known as the "Tracco" to its employees and Have A Shot & Risk It to other road users. Funnily enough, having gone to Portsmouth we ended up in Guildford- the home of Dennis Bros. Indeed, just a few weeks ago there was an Aldershot & District Loline I- like the one Jeffrey has featured in Guildford High Street. The bonnet was open and it was a Gardner diesel as the power unit inside. I imagine that MD wanted to sell more lawn mowers or dustcarts instead of Lolines but it may have been fire engines! I had a builder who had done his apprenticeship at Dennis- he said workers were allowed to take stuff home and on a Friday everybody was walking out with tons of items for their own projects! Dennis did make lorries-they were popular for brewery drays- Fremlins had a load.

Hi Jeffrey, another great video, thank you! I'd love to see you do a video about the Ailsa Volvo B55, the last ever front engined double decker bus, "The Scottish Bus"

Another great video Jeffrey, at 3.25 in the video there is a Middlesbrough corporation one . I didn't realise they had any. Looks to be a lovely restored one and the structure next to it is Middlesbroughs famous transporter Bridge. I lived not far from Middlesbrough until 97 then moved to Norfolk (England 😊)

Tall but not too tall... you know there is this harmonica dessign... i think its called rticulated (tho i never heard a single speech by any one of the ones i've been driven in so can not verify that). Odd how different countries choose different solutions, sometimes even at cost of having to do very complex engineering as opposed to just bolting on a hitch part of vehicle with a rubber tunnel XD Still i do find it remarkable that he lolibus lolipop... watever the hell its name was did not produce more, even at cost of hiring other factories it could have still bolstered their funds. than again i am no buzniessman i do not comprehend how these things work in their world.
