The Derry Story: Great War. Great Slaughter. 

So very sad that these men fought side by side in France and Belgium and yet, less than three years later, they were firing on each other in open gun battles on Derrys walls. My G-Grandfather was the last of the Derrys to be killed on the Somme just hours before the end of the battle.

Many thanks for bringing this back to the people of our city, watching this has brought so many heartfelt memories of the forgotten men who left families and never returned nor where ever remembered in a country due to the following years of a newer history that scarred our land. I was in many of the places visited during this video and was following my grandfathers path of war with the munster fusiliers. He returned in 1920 home after demobilisation. Thanks for the memories.

You forgot to mention that it was a group of Orangemen who went out and fetched his body in . They respected and revered him.

Gavin if you make another film please so mention Father Willie Doyle SJ MC now a Servant of God as of 22nd November 2022 and hopefully will be canonised. He was loved equally by the men of the 16th Irish Division and the 36th Ulster Division
