Howdy! Today we are in Yeehaw Junction, FL near Kenansville, FL where we are taking a closer look at what remains of the Desert Inn! This old cowboy spot is too cool not to document. There is so much history in this place and we are here for it!
#DesertInn #FloridaLandmark #Abandoned
In the 1930s, the spot was originally named "Jackass Crossing," a reference to the burros that ranchers rode to Desert Inn.
As early as 1889, the Desert Inn was a bar room and brothel for cowboys and lumber workers. The Desert Inn did not have full-service water and electricity until 1978.
Throughout the years, the Desert Inn was used as a trading post, gas station, and dance hall. In 1994, after being added to the National Register of Historic Places, the unused rooms above the restaurant were converted into a modest museum that featured a bordello suite with red carpet, lace pillows and a swing.
The Desert Inn closed in June 2018.
In the early morning hours of December 22, 2019, a tractor trailer crashed into the side of the inn. The trailer jackknifed and photos show the roof of the inn collapsed onto the roof of the tractor trailer. The President of the Osceola County Historical Society, which owns and operated the Desert Inn, stated that a determination will be made if any part of the building can be saved pending a survey by a structural engineer. Fortunately, a few weeks prior, valuable artifacts from inside the Desert Inn were removed and put in their archives as part of a clean up day and restoration efforts.

Hello and welcome to the World of Micah! I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting -from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Walt Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and ‪Back to the Future‬. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions. I'm also a major Movie Buff! I have found the filming locations from such films as Edward Scissorhands, Halloween (1978) & Hocus Pocus!

I went vintage shopping recently and came across a pink swizzle stick that says “Desert Inn Bar & Restaurant” with a dome on top with 2 plastic pieces inside that can’t be seen well do to age and scratches on the plastic dome. Does anyone know if that swizzle could be from this bar? I don’t think the one in Vegas had “Bar & Restaurant” in the title. Any insight would be great. My research has been a dead end. Thanks! :)

@8:00 "no photography " nope the sign is basically unenforceable & not legal ,the courts have ruled if its public access or can be seen by the mailman, basically you can film it if in the public domain ,even private property, you can't go inside to film or invade personal enclosed areas of someone's domain ....I think that they put the sign up to prevent UrbanX people & others from going inside the structure to film ,probably people was caught inside the dwelling using "I was just filming inside " as a excuse for entering the property, but from filming outside its unenforceable

The National Registry really does nothing to protect a historical place. Only local laws can do that. However, this one was owned by a preservation society I hear. The best thing to do would be to keep the surviving part and rebuilt the facade in the same way as before. It is interesting they have not taken steps to prevent water damage by clearing rubble away from the building and putting in some plastic sheeting which would be important to prevent further water damage. I wonder if they had insurance

I would love to know what person in oh idk say 1958 stayed there without air and electric when there were other places with that luxury unless of course it was the only hotel for miles. Crazy lol
