I just wonder, how many poor parents have to deal with kids who are attempting to become streamers and spend hours a day just screaming constantly. You'd sooner get them a drumkit
my friend’s little brother is like this!!! he was always one of those kids who liked to scream at people while playing online games. now he’s graduated high school and is trying to turn his pastime of yelling at video games into a career as a twitch streamer. it’s not going very well, he has like 10 subscribers on twitch and he’s been streaming for like 2 years. he spends several hours a day just screeching and making noise, im sure the neighbors love it!!! at least he has a day job though lmao
@@stinky59 i have a friend and his little brother is in the exact same situation. Trying to become a streamer, has a day job, playing minecraft or some shit.
I’ve learned over my nearly 4 decades on this planet that for people like that, the money is never enough. The fact that he’s forced into obscurity will eat away at him for the rest of his life and he’ll never be satisfied. He wants the attention and he wants the high of making that fast cash. If he hasn’t blown all his money chasing that feeling, then at least he’ll be miserable knowing he’s a has-been.
I genuinely thought this guy had committed self-die a long time ago. I mean, i guess he committed career self-die, but i genuinely wouldn't be surprised if he does eventually because he CRAVES the spotlight and the attention. Nobody who puts on that kind of "persona" is content being a nobody. Look at that bald monkey looking guy who also streamed league of legends and was known for being the most toxic guy ever... that was his WHOLE persona (idk if he still streams but i never watched him to begin with). But he was exactly the same shtick as phantmlord... raging crying screaming being toxic as fuck and doing anything he could to be as awful as possible on stream... He got banned like 10 times but Riot still let him come back every time and twitch also because they care about money more than sending a message, then they wonder why their platform is full of screaming toxic asshole douchebags, or scantily clad whorish thots showing their tits or pussy "accidentally" on stream.
@@TriWaZe I havent heard anything from him since this lawsuit win. And nothing of the massive fees that were likely involved in a lawsuit that took 3 years how is it a victory? if you claim for 100M i thought that is factored into costs? theres a chance hes in a lot of trouble.
@@Seph0rz I heard he only won like 20k so most likely he may have won the case but still got financially screwed. Which I really hope is the case cause f this guy and anyone that supports em
Because as lame as it is, it was funny back then. Why do you think people still emulate the "loud = funny" thing? Its because it worked. I enjoyed it. Then I grew up.
@@SokomPwnage exactly… I enjoyed it back then, but the creators who’ve also grown up and out of the “loud=funny” phase are the ones I still watch, JSE for example.
I hear this all the time in a different context. A few people I know are in toxic relationships, and they always say "this isn't who my partner is." I always found that incredibly odd, although it makes sense from an emotional standpoint. It's not who they THINK they are, even if objectively speaking they are horrible. Logically, there is no defense, so the appeal / rationalize it with emotions.
Whenever I apologize I always dismiss any excuses. Me: "The reason why it happened doesn't matter, nor should you care. It happened and I was wrong to do it. I'm sorry."
You know what I love most about this Kira Production? This guy was probably close to resurfacing, because a whole generation had passed, most people wouldn't have known whotf he was unless they were OG stream watchers. This vid just sent him back to the void for another 10yrs 👌🏻💕🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Kira, another top quality KiraTV production 👏🏻🥰
Notice, if you will, how everything they do in the game is what "we" should do or how it will affect "our" game. Builds a one-sided relationship with their viewers.
Yep, he’s got enough money and enough youth to do whatever he wants next as long as he stays away from social media (which shouldn’t be hard for a man with his means).
@@Goozero1 The comment is saying that the only time he's making those kinds of sounds now is when he's enjoying going for a swim or some other activity paid for by the tons of money he made.
I followed his snapchat at the time and vividly remember him filming at a big pool party throwing thousands of dollars in the pool and mocking those he stole from
It's genuinely incredible that there are so many people in prison and this creep isn't one of them. Steal from a corner store and you go to jail. Steal millions of dollars via illegal RIGGED gambling and the worst that happens is your twitch account gets terminated. This society too corrupt to survive much longer.
Is this meant to be a success story? Cause he got away with it. All of it. Who cares if his reputation is beyond repair when he never has to work another day in his life and can do whatever he wants? At the end of the day he's not going to walk into a store and be recognized as "phantomlord" and told to leave.
He had lavish habits and lifestyle, I doubt his wealth would last for the rest of his life. I believe the idea behind the lawsuit was to secure more money and be comfortable.
yeah, there are a lot of streamers/ content creators who fade into obscurity without making that kind of money. all in all its really just a retirement. you cant do that kind of job forever anyway.
He lost his career but he'll be fine since he has millions upon millions to live comfortable. Everything he scammed out of those who liked him, he kept. Nothing I am just tired of all these scammers keeping their ill gotten money.
@@MagnetDzn It's upfront known that the casinos have odds in their favour. That's not kept a secret. While this guy didn't reveal that vital piece of info.
I'd like to throw out a little, inconsequential side story that happened about 10 years ago where Phantom was the catalyst. Phantom on one of his League streams, which I enjoyed watching back in the day, said he was looking for more people to volunteer (they were upfront that it was unpaid) with a Minecraft side project that was currently in the works. It was going to be a server for his fans/subscribers to explore, and you could find things like League codes for skins or whatever within notes in hidden chests. The team needed more builders, and I submitted essentially a Minecraft resume (I annoy my friends with this story every time I can). I got in and started volunteering under one of the more senior people. This map was HUGE. There were whole statues of League characters, secret areas everywhere, places from other games - you name it. My grand additions were a massive cathedral and the start of a "1 to 1" copy of the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time. Also, a particularly sinister one-way trap where skeleton heads would mock you (via the wooden signs) for falling in, and you had to suffocate yourself via a trapped chest + piston to get out. That was vetoed lol. I wasn't present, but when Phantom saw my dark cathedral in the swamp area when he came to check on progress, he loved it - at least that's what the others told me. It was a nice feeling. He even gave us some cash for our work. Nothing earth-shattering I think (I turned it down before they even told me an amount), but it was still a lovely gesture. But what I mostly remember was the community of builders. Great, level-headed people who just built things and kept the project going. Phantom, as far as I knew, left creative control almost entirely to us. it was pretty fun hanging out with the rest of the team in Skype, using WorldEdit to make gargantuan things. Unfortunately, the project sputtered and died out as I think Phantom's focus went elsewhere. Someone kept a copy of the map before the server shut down. I only remember one name from the team after this decade of time - iW00T. I hope you figured out how to script a copy of the player character to attack in that one Water Temple room. It's probably trivial to do nowadays, but it felt like you were really pushing the scripting boundaries then - at least to ignorant me. To the rest of the team - I hope you're all doing well.
@@AndreiGalan97bruh if you don't read the comment why even take the time to write out that you didn't read it. Sounds more like a waste of time in the end than reading the comment.
@@tux_duhI'm sure he must be crying over it while swimming in his money vault like Scrooge. Let's face it, the guy won. He clearly has no conscience so he's not bothered by any of this. He's just enjoying his wealth now.
I always feel like an alien when I visit twitch because the only thing people want to see are extroverted, loud, high energy people who scream and have mental breakdowns. Thats literally what makes people famous, these traits. I dont know why that attracts so many people. And its not just young people either.
"Loud content" can be funny sometimes, especially when you're actively engaging with the stream, but the majority of people (me included) keep the streams minimized/on the second monitor while doing something else. And I don't have to tell you how annoying they can be while you're trying to do something else, even if you love the streamer in question.
Rightt? I had streamed Goose Goose Duck for about a year on Twitch and only shied near 200 followers by the end of it. I don't understand the attraction to obnoxious streamers XD
There's plenty of streamers that aren't just all hyper and screaming, but that's just the popular content for teens and zoomers who make up the vast majority of viewers. And this applies not only to twitch, but RU-vid and other social media as well. It's just that those platforms are much better at serving you exactly what you want rather than just what's popular.
Nah, I disagree on half of that while at the same time I see and agree with half of it because I an alien to an extent and do not feel extroverted by anybody besides making my own choices to lurk into oblivion... Also what's wrong with it being young people??? Do yo wish it had all ages or just like old people more??? Or maybe is it a milf to dilf thing???
I appreciate these documentaries you make much more than a lot of others one would find on this site about the careers of online personas. I think a large part of that has to do with the fact that in your documentaries, these people have actually done things that deserve scorn, whereas I feel like many others seem to insult people for a change in priorities. Anyways, keep up the great work, I hope RU-vid's monetization team has been treating you more kindly.
On one hand, definitely stupid. On the other hand, he probably has to never work a day in his life anymore. Not a bad deal for him personally I would say.
I remember seeing this guy's name around a lot back when I was playing league. I didn't watch streams back then and preferred to watch edited videos and such, but he was a name that was mentioned a lot by other creators. It's definitely a ride learning who that actually was beyond just a name.
How the hell did he hit that high a pitch in his voice on the regular without destroying his vocal cords? My throat hurts after just watching a short clip
when he not being a league player it is the end of him. The stream become bored when he start CS:GO , not even playing the games, just gambling was the one of his stream viewer back in the days. His community totally destoryed from his hand.
Excellent video. I love your content. It's not hyped, or dramatized unnecessarily. Well researched, and to the fact. I enjoy all the themes and topics you are doing, whether it's internet/gaming history, or political/global scandals that gets screwed by the algorithm. I can imagine some topics or themes can be challenging, especially when it's contra the narratives major countries are trying to do. You're doing great.
I used to be a big fan. I watched his videos all the time. I guess the times were different at that time and kids really enjoyed such content. Now that I look at it, it’s absolutely unbearable lmao
Every time you played a clip of this guy, I had to turn down the volume by half and resist shutting off the video completely. How people can choose to watch streamers like this, especially on a regular basis, has to be a mental affliction.
In the UK when you make a lawsuit you are paying 5% of what you are hoping to claim thats just a court fee. There is a chance the guy has been royally messed up by the fees.
I don't think he destroyed his life, he pretty much got off scot-free. His rep is destroyed but only his online rep, he could pretty much build a new business under a new pseudonym with the amount of money he got.
lol He ruined his life by stealing a bunch of money, getting away with it, and retiring to quiet luxury and never having to work again. Man, a real cautionary tale there.
He used to be a pro gamer and his passion was video games so that real type of fame he found was completely destroyed for him. I honestly think the video overestimates how much money he made in comparison to how he spends or how good he was.... i dont seem to recall him going big after the initial twich run he was just sort of there in the very early league days and suddenly he left CLG stopped streaming league and dissapeared onto CSGO. He was good at league in D1 but for only a small time i before the the higher tier ranked system and introduction of master/grandmaster after he could barely play in low gold. On stream he became an alcoholic got into various toxic relationships and was involved in multiple lawsuits. This guy probably had a multitude of problems that you and i are both happier without.
not gonna lie.. ''throwing away'' his entire life (his internet persona?) for enough money to live like a king the rest of his life.. I don't think he lost anything at all...He won...
@@guardiansoulblade2673 especially if he’s the narcissistic type, being a “has-been” will drive him crazy over time, and I’d bet he’s chasing the feeling of the game, ing, the cash grabs, and the thrill of seeing all his numbers go up.
Its somewhat fascinating how different people are when liking something, I cannot fathom anybody spending 30 seconds on a stream with a guy screaming outta his lungs and destroying my hearing in the process, but I'm sure I like many things others find boring LOOL
I don't know how people can watch someone who randomly screams & shreiks so loudly. Although i also don't understand the attraction of watching a stranger playing games online.
When you've never heard of the most "famous" streamer The fact people like this can become a millionaire doesn't help when legacy media want to mock it Standup people that contribute to society can end up homeless, but people like this can screw over other's and companies for millions while gaining millions and breaking the rules, Pretty absurd
Damn seeing all that CS footage makes me miss those days so much. Played since beta 0.6 but stopped after I had kids about 8 years ago. I can't tell you the intense nostalgia I got seeing that gameplay. awesome vid btw lol
PhantomLord was such a vibe back in the day, specially the Mexican PhantomLord that shit was FIRE, it's just so sad looking at this documentaries seeing people you followed for years just being a mere memory now.
Hello KiraTV, would you by any chance be willing to talk about MapleStory again? Recently a class was announced that it will be removed, and it's sent a good chunk of the playerbase in an uproar for multiple reasons, including how it sets a bad precedent for other class removals and Nexon's lack of communication on the matter.
He came out of this legally unharmed and rich... not sure if I would "never have to worry about money in my life again" call a "downfall" for a former part-time worker at best buy. Yes, he can't do what he seemingly loved in that period of his life in this form anymore, but life is about changes, about closed and opened doors. He surly has found something else by now he likes to do - and whatever it may be - you can be certain he can afford it. Morality aside, this guy cashed-in big time, not only because of the... well... cash, but mainly because he has screwed over so many people without having to bear any consequences for it.
really boggles my mind that this guys entire lifes work boils down to screaming at video games, opening csgo cases and scamming kids. truly a role model
I've met with him in Berlin 2013, before all these shit show. He was a genuine guy. Dorky, average gamer . Who actually loves his job. Sadly money got better of him... I wish he would suffer the consequences of promoting his own gambling site and influencing thousands
It boggles my mind that actual legal action wasn't taken against him considering what he did was highly illegal and he made off with millions of dollars of people's money by rigging his own gambling website. He should have lost all of his money and also had a long prison sentence.
It was a technicality that let him get away with it. Because the wagers were made exclusively with in-game items that had no value or utility outside of the CSGO community there was technically no money involved in the transactions and gambling regulations were not worded in a way that accounted for people playing games of chance with them. The fact that the items would then be sold for real money outside of the gambling site created just enough of a distance between the games of chance and the profits from the scam that the regulators couldn't come after him. It's like how in Japan you'll often see pachinko places across the street from pawn shops: the players use the balls they win on the games to exchange for prizes of no real monetary value and then cross the road and get the money from the guy across the road who buys them for way more than they're worth before handing them back to the guys at the pachinko business. The website he ran took no money: it was selling the items after the fact that made it profitable. This meant that they could rig the whole thing without having any monetary transactions on their books (besides their operational costs) and therefore there wasn't any way to prosecute him for taking people's cash because nobody actually spent money to participate and the sales were made on a market place that wasn't under his control, rendering those transactions no more illegal than anything else being sold between CSGO players on the other platform. I believe that the issue was twofold: the laws regulating gambling made exceptions for things like trading cards, which would be the closest existing comparison to the type of goods being wagered, and the gaming industry was already taking advantage of players in similar ways through similar games of random chance within their online games and lobbied heavily to retain the ability to exploit their audience through gambling mechanics designed to induce compulsive spending. I believe that the regulations were subsequently tightened up in some parts of Europe to outlaw these systems and treat them as a form of gambling, however the best that regulation of online gambling can achieve is preventing people without a VPN from accessing them within their borders. On the internet there's nothing to stop someone registering a business like this in a country without regulations and blocking off incoming traffic from places where it is illegal (all the while knowing that people in those countries are participating too, except three VPN makes it appear that their IP addresses are from countries where it's not illegal.)
LMAO PhantomLord??? NO WAY!!! I thought this guy would stay humble. Used to love his LoL streams. I remember when he went to the Korea servers and would play AP Yi.
I was part of his following 10 years ago. And it was crazy shit. But one thing remained in my mind ever since Richard Lewis (at the time one of the biggest voices in e-sports, today someone that most of the industry doesn't want and that blocks you on twitter just because even if you don't interact with him) did that "investigation" and it was everyone was blaming PL and also RU-vidrs like TMartin, which is totally understandable, but I always thought the same thing: How is it that Valve just escaped this unscathed. It will always be mind boggling to me that no one ever even mentioned Valve as the first culprit of this whole mess, creating a system where this could happen. Funnily enough, years and years later people and sometimes in EU legislation coming out against "Lootboxes", and yet CSGO and Valve, still no mention. According to Valve, if I recall correctly, they stated that skins "did not change in any shape, way or form the gameplay, and also they were just virtual items, thus not holding ANY REAL MONETARY VALUE". In addition, they stated that it was supposed to be "something for people to play like they were part of a black market of weapons" making a reference to the Steam market. I couldn't believe it, since to open a box, you needed 2.49 dollars per key of real money that you would put in into Steam. On one side, I am glad, it's the reason why we still had (had because cs2 is coming) csgo be alive today. But it was just fuckery. This video was great, it was a nice recap.
9 out of 10 people you do essays on I’ve never heard of. I’m glad of that but happy to watch your essays like it’s a car crash. Greed always undoes these people.
How in the world is this "Destroyed His Life", he traded internet fame and a career that he really clearly did not enjoy, for enough money for him and his family to live incredibly comfortably with no problems the rest of his and their life. Where in the world was his life destroyed?
Dude is pretty much untouchable for some reason. Starforge could fail miserably and scam all of it's customers and he'd still find a way to appear neutral and distanced from the situation.
Insane that he never got into any trouble with the justice system for all this fixed and illegal gambling since he was one of the owner. I'm guessing he got away because of the legal gray area that still enshrouds all these pseudo-gambling system in games that was even grayer a few years ago.
Not sure if I would agree with the sentiment that he ruined his life. Makes a lot of money, rides off into the sunset to enjoy his fortune without needing to worry about the streaming or the online space ever again. Before that, he was just a retail worker who streamed League of Legends. Seems like a win for this guy; I was expecting to hear that he got locked up during the fallout.
