I'm going to defend Sweet Baby a little here. Those games that failed were due to hyper exploitative practices like microtransactions, unreasonable due dates, and repetitive gameplay. As for capitalism being a factor, one has to look at whether a studio is privately held or publicly traded. A privately held company has to make a profit but only to keep things running. They can have lean years, years of deficit, or even stagnantion. A publicly traded company has to show constant growth because it answers to shareholders who demand a return on the investment they gave. i.e., infinite growth. We also should not outright dismiss attempts by companies to hire outside consultants to review the stories they write. The Prince of Egypt was one of the best animated films of all time, and the studio hired religious representatives from Christian, Judaism, and Muslim faiths as consultants on how to present Moses. It would make sense that a company wanting to have broad appeal would hire consultants to see if the story might cause controversy among different demographics and how to address that.
