The NFHS DH, Player/DH rule appears to be attempting to mimic softball's DP/Flex rule as was established 20 years ago. DP/Flex is simple, easy to manage, and probably more versatile. I would love to have someone explain any advantage DH, Player/DH has over DP/Flex and why high school baseball does not simply adopt DP/Flex.
Hey Henry - thanks for the question! So if your SS is also labeled DH, and you take him out of the game on defense, he is now the DH and hits in the same spot. The new defensive player you put in his spot at SS would not hit in the lineup, he would only play in the field. If you want the new player to hit, you would have to replace the original SS entirely and the new SS would hit in his spot - therefore getting rid of the DH. Hope that makes sense!
Is this outdated. Jomboy got me into this sport VERY recently. I'm working my way round the rules. I see both leagues have a DH AND there is te Ohtani rule is there I read in an article but I'm struggling to get my head round what has changes. ALSO what happend in World Series when they had different rules.
I filmed this video last year so there could be some changes, but I don't think it's too different. The World series rules are that they have to follow the rules of the stadium they're in. So if the American league team is home, then it's American league rules - if the national league team is home, the it's national league rules. Hope this helps!
It is outdated. This is very sad news to many, as the game is far less interesting with a DH. You won't see as many different substitutions throughout the game, and you definitely won't see any thrilling surprises when a pitcher does manage to get a hit.
