That’s what I am saying he measures speed and distance and velocity and density and all that in almost every Slow Mo video and sometimes (in fact more then half the time) he dose it off the top of his head so as I have said many times before Gavs logic is almost always sound it’s just his wording that stumps people and confuses them
@@RinSyuveil When "Does rocks float on lava" originally happened and he got mocked for years for it, it really confused me why they were ridiculing the question. Like lava is just liquid rocks and water is liquid ice; if ice floats, why not rocks? I get that it's phrased in a really dumb sounding way but the question itself makes a lot of sense. That, and other Gavinisms, went on to partially fuel a series of RT Podcast episodes of bringing in a real scientist to answer those questions. And Gavin was usually spot on but phrased poorly.
@@MrSilnev Not really. 90% of the time it happened on the podcast, burnie and gus would just down his throat over something mid explanation, and then write off whatever he was saying as wrong when he finally got to, without actually listening to it. It was the whole bit for years.
I absolutely remember all of those and know he is right most of the time. On the flip side (heh), I also remember the coin argument and how well that went in MC Monopoly. Edit: Let's also not forget the beautiful gems that are Run Down A Mountain theory (your legs would explode, followed by the rest of your body, or, a stain on the side of Mt. Everest.) and the Triangle question (a triangle is a 2D object, so if you try and draw it in a 3D environment, it's not a triangle, its half a cone. The five-sided one would be a pentagonal pyramid.)
Eric: "You wanna give him a hand, Geoff?" Geoff: *starts clapping* Eric: "Thanks." Moments like these are why I'm so happy Eric and Geoff make content together.
With the history of Gavin and desks im actually shocked this mostly worked as expected instead of one of the desks either snapping in half or a motor bursting into flames.
Between this and Facejam, Graysie, Nick, and Eric are unbelievable content creators. I want more of them, and I especially want more of them interacting with Gavin, Geoff, Andrew, Michael and Jordan.
I think Eric said that these two podcasts fall under the “F series of podcasts” within the company, so by working on them, the 3 have developed insane chemistry together
So where are all the comment leavers now who argued vehemently that Gavin was wrong? Don't give me the "he explained it poorly" excuse, he explained it perfectly clearly and most of us understood it just fine, and most of the comments I read arguing about it were DEFINITELY misunderstanding actual physics, not Gavin's explanation.
I want you to listen to the end of break show 12/18 (The first time this was explained on camera) and tell me it was “explained well”. Cause they don’t say motorised desk *at all* there. Gavin changed how he explained it between content pieces, his explanation in the episode makes sense (and is what is shown here), the original explanation is batshit.
@@The_Knife_Pie So I just looked. Despite it being less well explained in the break show, there are only a few comments about it there, and they all understood it correctly. The truly dumb arguments happen in the comments of the main episode where it was discussed, in which it was as you say explained better. 🤷♂
@@beavinator People who first heard it there, like myself, remembered that explanation as opposed to the revised one Gavin gave later is the issue. When it's made clear that the desks are motorised it's quite clear, but just saying "desks" or "standing desks" is *not* a clear description in light of the first explanation.
I've already forgotten how the question started, but I think there was a misconception in what the speed was relative to. Graysie maybe assumed that the individual desk at the top would not raise faster even if the desks below were raising at the same time, and Gavin was considering the total speed observed from the top of the desks relative to the floor.
It would genuinely surprise me that these simple physics concepts don't make sense to some people, but then I remember that flat earthers exist, who misinterpret even more simple concepts. My assessment of it was always: As long as the desks have enough power to push the entire amount of weight up at the same speed as normal, then you would increase in height proportional to the amount of desks. If one desk moved you 2 1/2 inches, you would just multiply that distance by the amount of desks you use. This is of course assuming a perfect world, which the experiment was not. The bottom desk failed to overcome the weight of Gav and 2 desks, but the 2 desks that went proved the theory.
If you laid the desks down on their sides it would alleviate a lot of the load created by gravity and showcase the experiment more accurately, as well, if you put them on wheeled carts you can decrease the ground friction more for an even cleaner result.
after doing a bit of research most standing desks use a brushless electric DC motor to lift the legs, which will output about 1/8 of a hp...i now have an immense urge to go out and hook up an old 2hp pool motor to a standing desk...
I would just love to see a wrestler pull out a stack of desks mid match, get on top, and then slowly rise to preform the most confusing body slam ever.
She’s slowly becoming more present in F*ckface, but took no time to immediately go full gremlin mode in Facejam. Definitely one of the funniest editions to RT lately
Gavin's problem is and always has been 1. Knowing what he's talking about (sciencewise) 2. Explaining it in the worst way possible so that he sounds like a lunatic
@BLNKT. in the episode he didn't set the speed in relation to the ground for a while and I believe he didn't include it when they were discussing prior to the episode
@BLNKT. in relation to other desks I guess? Speed is relative but clearly something was misunderstood by most of the people he explained it to and the only explanation we got the hear was on the podcast. I agreed with him the whole time
@@unbudgingsalmon I just listened to it again and it doesn't seem like anyone didn't understand. They all seemed to get his premise. I didn't see anyone misunderstand what he was saying. They just disagreed but no one explained why other than Graysie just saying she didn't think a motor would be strong enough. Is there a different podcast where people didn't understand? Or are you saying other fans didn't understand?
I didn’t do too well in physics, but I think this is the most simple example of relativity? It’s as simple as it can get? 1 push + 1 push = 2 pushes relative to a 0 push observer?
@@allypearlman5569 That’s because Gavin is legendarily bad at explaining the concepts (in Rooster Teeth stuff). This seems to be especially the case when he’s right. It can also be difficult to conceptualise if it’s not something you think about often. I got to this point whilst trying to explain it to my sister (who took Graysie’s position), although I used push instead of speed because it was easier to demonstrate: If I’m sat in a wheely office chair and push off against a wall, I will go the distance of one push. If we reset the scenario and now my sister is stood against the wall and we push off each other’s hands, I go the distance of two push (assuming we’re both putting in equal strength and I don’t fall off (and other assumptions because physics)).
People sleep on how smart and calculated Gavin is. They're used to his goofy silly self in RT/FF but it's all for the bit. He's actually a very smart and learned guy. His Slow-Mo videos are proof of that.
I mean, who didn't understand Gavins theory and was right all along? There's a species of caterpillar and to move around they climb over one another to cover more ground quicker. =D
Maaaaaan, its so strange seeing Gavin. I remember when I first started watching AH/RT years ago and he was so young. Now he's got gray in his beard. Its crazy to think I've been watching this content for so long.
literally any maintenance department i have ever been with. 'where is the tape measure?'..... 'this is a object that we do not know and its location will only be known to you if it deems you worthy'
Wow the thing that definitely was going to happen because physics happened.... Shocker. I want more of Gavin's true theories tested where's the closest mountain range 😂
I've built probably 2 or 3 hundred of these desks, hon has a single leg base that they use for smaller surfaces, the sensitivity can also be adjusted lower to stop the desks from stopping. I'd suggest using a single leg or double leg base with a 3 or 4 leg controller. I have a couple extension cables for the leg motors themselves I could mail. This way you are controlling two or three surfaces from one control box, that might help. Id also unscrew the remotes and hold them in your hand, a little easier to press them at the same time that way. The thing you're fighting with is a higher desk starting to move will make a lower desk stop, the surge it feels makes the control box think the desk hit something. If you start the higher desk moving first and then one below and so on, that might work better. I haven't tried stacking them
I don't know why I've always pictured Nick in my head looking more like Eddy Rivas. Literally had no basis for this but now I've actually seen him finally. Idk if he's shown up on video for the channel before but this is the first I've seen him
