Listening to this cover on repeat. The sun setting behind me as I drive 1-70 through the Kansas prairie. Grieving the end of relationships with most of my immediate family. Not trusting in the future, but still filled with joy and gratitude for the love I have in my life and the chance to begin again. This song feels like grace.
Yes. I believe Guthrie's family gave the lyrics to Slaid Cleaves to orchestrate. His version is also here on RU-vid. I understand there are trunks of Guthrie lyrics that remain to have music set to them.
So happy to see this recent version. I love these guys and have had a time checking out the lineup and the members who have come and gone. Sam Doores (sp?) is absolutely awesome, the guy on the Jazzmaster Fender is an absolute wicked bad-ass pedal steel player, and Papa Riley is setting himself up to be a classic. These guys are an epic group of musicians. Sam is like, the number one type of dude you could ask for in a band = wicked on his own and as a front-man/singer, but when given a chance to play music they like, they'll help the whole thing shine like the sun collectively and lift everyone up.
