THE DESSERS PROBLEM... 

Never hid, ran his socks off, gets into good positions, but with 54 appearances, which most of us watched, he should and could have scored many more, because there was no goals coming from anywhere else, it cost us. His age, the amount we paid and his misses mean I would sell him, but he can leave with his head held high, never hid and gave his all.

If you can get your money back on a 29 year old its worth doing. I do think fans were a little harsh but he does miss really good chances too often and i believe in the manager and his staff knowing they can get better

Always thought we were more successful with a Scottish striker option, McCoist, Miller, Boyd, just a thought.!!

I would give Dessers another crack of the whip, if we have fit strikers around him there will be less pressure on him and could well rise to the occasion, doesn't hide and he has felt the weight of the shirt, knows what to expect so another season is a no brainer

What a great, big honest, hard working guy Dessers is, that must have incredible mental strength to take such a pasting from the fans and media early in his career. But still show up, week in and week out and became someone we could almost rely on all of the time. Was he younger/more of a project I’d say keep him but at his stage of his career if we can get our money back or even make a small profit we have to take it. Sadly I just don’t think he’s clinical enough for Rangers requirements. Wish him all the best. He will be remembered as a good guy. I’d pick Shankland over him any day of the week. So if that could somehow happen, I’d take it.

Never a Rangers number 9. The people still trying to make him into a cult figure because he talks well & smiles a lot need to give theirselves a right good shake. He's a journeyman dud with 9 clubs in 10 years. He's a mercenary that has found no home because every club wants rid after they went through a season with him. His last team was relegated & now i know why. We deserve better, so much better.

Do we trust him to start scoring in the big games at the right moments ? Very debatable. I think we can get far better. Shame , cos his attitude is good.

6 chances to score 1 goal,murder,if he wasn’t offside,he was throwing himself to the ground,and spent more time acting up to the tv camera ,like he was being hard done to.did score a decent amount of goal,but could have had double that.not good enough,but did play with a smile on his face,and unbelievably stayed fit..

Ah yes, How can we forget Beale - Players bend around my tactics and not playing to individual strengths. Worked well that eh? The issue with des is his stats look alright on paper but he isn't consistent enough, or when it matters. I can't see him as a league winning striker.

Simples. We need the money from the transfer fee for Desssers to go towards our rebuild

He scored some important goals but unfortunately missed more. Didn’t do it against them but when the officials chop off every goal he scored against them is that really his fault? End of the day he just isn’t the answer. Move him on with all our best wishes. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

Hello everyone as its looking likely that dessers will be leaving the club very shortly I thought we'd look into his 1st season at Rangers and see if it should be.. What would you like to see happen? Is keep or sell the big man?

Shows the standards of this club, can score 30 goals but if it takes U 1000 shots to get them you're not good enough. If Shankland had half of the chances dessers was given he'd be stat padding

Get him sold, problem solved. We are winning nothing if he leads the line next season.

This isn't about Dessers specifically, but goals. Last summer we binned Fashion Jr and Colak, two of our best goal contributors from the previous season. This summer we're looking to sell Dessers and Tav, which is a hell of a lot of goals to take out of the team, again. I trust the gaffer with these decisions, but fear we wont replace the contributions these players make, going into next season against a strong Celtic squad, especially if they sign Idah, who compliments Bodgers style far more than Kyogo does. Hopefully Phil Clement finds his man to take us forward. 🙏

I've always liked big Des and I would love him to stay as i think he would increase his tally but bottom line is we probably need the funds to bring back Sima on a permanent deal and also for the other signings, just hope we can hang on to Todd and big Jack, looking forward to more update vids and hopefully a much more successful season 🇬🇧👍

if an offer comes in for dessers I would take it .. that's what does it for me his big misses he's not the man to lead rangers upfront ..

Good goalscorer on paper is dessers. However, he isn’t the main man to get us where we need to be, and I personally would like to see more of Danilo and igamane. If he goes we should reinvest in another CF to compliment the other 2

I won’t think ohh a wish we had dessers now if the new boys don’t do it Next season. I will think there just ain’t good enough and certainly won’t want dessers as he wasn’t good enough either

Jelavic was injured in his first season, sure we sold Miller in January and he still finished the top scorer in the League. Colak also injured and when he came back Beale persisted with an uninterested Morelos. Think either would have had a better debut season under different circumstances. Going back to Dessers he isn't the answer. People were saying "where we be without his goals?" Well where were we the season before he came? 2nd place. 2 seasons before without his goals? 2nd place. With his goals? 2nd place. We need better.

Like the big man but ultimately not quite upto being the starting no 9 we were all looking for.

Dessers takes too many touches and lacks the selfish part a top striker has infront of goal. He often wants to play the ball off to a team mate rather than shoot first time. Also sometimes he takes four and 5 chances to put one away. 16 league goals isn't bad, but with the service and opportunity a top Rangers striker should finish higher on league goals. To be fair to the guy we over relied on him. Most top teams have 3 to 4 good strikers on rotation. To keep each other sharp, for cover and to push each other for goals. We have Danilo, Igamane, Dessers for now, but if he does go we will need to bring in another striker and maybe add Lovelace as the back up to that list, giving us 4 strikers to rotate with. I am not against Dessers, I just don't rate him too highly. If he stays fine, if he goes no problem. He will go with a decent level of respect, the big man never hid and tries his heart out, for all his downsides. He at least gave his all. He wasn't why we didn't win the league. The reason for me was our defence, coupled with not enough goals in the wide areas or from the midfield. Tav, Goldson and Souttar were the main defensive suspects at the business end, when the pressure is on. Cantwell did not produce enough either. Thats what really needs changing. Tav and Goldson because of the wages they are on, and the fact they are only going to get slower and become more liable defensively now. They have more than had their chance to bring lots of silverware. Time up.

Can't fault Dessers work rate, but the man is a Jigsaw as he goes to pieces in the box. If he had scored even 70% of his clear-cut opportunities, we would have won the league. Dessers the only man we have had in blue that made grown men shout "FFS SHOOT!"

if Cyriel Dessers does move on this Summer it will be his 9th club in the last 10 seasons. Anyone remember a childrens game called "pass the parcel" where you pass the parcel around till the music stops and someone gets to keep the parcel . In this case for another 3 seasons . Music is still playing but its time to pass the parcel swiftly along before the violins come out.

Should’ve had over 30 goals. Unfortunately the ‘sitters’ that would have gotten him over the 30 goal mark were all important and needed to be made… serial choker!

a think we cash in on him tbh, realistically he isn’t going to match last season in terms of numbers, especially as we now have a fit danilo and igamane. He’s nearly 30 and we probably won’t get a better chance to recoup the fee we paid for him, so aye definitely sell and invest the money back into squad

Absolutely nailed how I feel about our man Dessers, I changed my mind about him just about every week last season and by the end of it he absolutely left me drained. Even typing this I’ve already changed my mind 3 (make that 4) times about whether I think he should stay and I now just want it to be over. I’ve convinced myself that I’ll be happy when the money crunchers make up their mind about him and we get on with supporting the Gers as we march towards 56.

Said it before and I will say it again.. Dessers is not good enough to be a Rangers player and if Rangers keep him, kiss the title goodbye.

I’d keep him. But….. if you got good money for him and spent it wisely on a clinical younger striker ??? But again , every purchase is a gamble and Dessers has proven he can get goals . I would however swap him for Shankland .

Cash is King, I’d like to see Dessers given another go, maybe now he understands this club a bit better. But if we can get our money back and a little bit extra, I’ll wish him all the best on his next adventure.

I like the idea of you “consulting” us viewers even though we’ve always been able to comment freely. Dessers is an ideal subject as it is easy to make a case in either direction. We must remember the price we paid when “Tony two goals” was jettisoned so moving Cyriel on can only be considered if we are certain that we have an adequate replacement. At the moment, I’m not confident that is the case so I agree with you that the Danillo, Igamane, Dessers trio is required however, if we sign another guaranteed goalscorer, it would be sensible to cash in while there is a good chance of recouping our investment. Sell , Turns 30 in December ,his hold up play is poor and either does the whole fake shot chop and doesn’t get a shot away or misses sitters in vital games.

A great summary as always mate. I have to say the boy never hid, always put in a shift and got on with his job, but when the chips are down you can’t rely on him to put the ball away… on balance, if we can get what we paid for him or make a small profit I would sell him

Hey CJ, I too would keep big Des, l understand the Dessers fraction,but Buff missed sitters and took extra touch before shooting, didn't do great against them at the dark side. The whole team under performed last season!!!. At least Cyril done a job and contributed. Did the same last transfer window, sold Colack and Sakala the ones that scored goals but but their no Rangers standard. I want goal scorers in my team, standards have to be earned, and IMO Des might not be first choice, but deserves to be at Rangers. Be careful what you wish for bears. RTID

If dessers goes we better hope that the strikers we get in stay fit a no he missed a lot if chances but he scored a few as well and would be a great back up striker for any team that have injury oroblems like rangers do imo 👍🇬🇧

I would keep him. I think a lot of the questions on dessers is linked to him being signed by Beale. Yes he could have scored goals but his stats can’t be disputed and that’s with the first part of the season being what it was. Also in a team often whose mental bottle has been questioned a lot I think he showed time and time again that his bottle can’t be questioned. How many players can you name who came back from being booed off the park at ibrox? Also in the hearts game post January window when all the fuss was on not signing shankland it was dessers scoring not shankland. And when he finally got his goal against Celtic (don’t get me started on the wrong var decisions) no celebration just focused on getting restarting and getting another!

If he would just stop messing around and actually shoot i think he would be an exceptional striker. That being said we cant take another chance (season) on him in case he continues AND finishes next season the same way because we need someone who won't miss so many good chances , every striker misses but not as many easy ones like he did.

Dessers can be compared with Igamane when it comes to conversion rates but Dessers has ended the season with a positive result but he doesn’t have the pace and just has no ability to dribble through players and has missed more than scored so if you keep him benched and start Hamza or Danilo we’d have a much prolific striker

I'd sell him, he's done ok but not even remotely clinical enough in front of goal, to moke our money back on him at his age should be a no brainer, I'd then use a portion of that money to buy a proven gosl scorer, preferably a Scottish one, 👀

He should watch all of Shanklands goals to see how to score in our league.

I'd keep dessers, but nowhere first choice, he's got good feat, but he only scores about a third as many than he actually should.

Big games he floundered and missed too many shots, if he improves that % he will be a star. Keep him

I like Dessers. The only striker last season to stay healthy. Is he the perfect article? No Is he the one player you want one on one with the gk? No. I think he would thrive in a front 2 . I think he ran his arse off for us when no one else seemed to care. You could see him frustrated with the midfield and "wingers" for not closing down and keeping up the press. I wish him the best of luck.

I mean if he was joining us with the numbers of last season and said he didn't take penalty's we'd be desperate to get him signed!! Watching the games though it's been so frustrating in games he should have scored bucket loads .. some shots though were out the park from yards away, when he should have burst the net. I'm fine with him going. I just hope we consider bringing in an experienced striker too ( Shankland please 🙏 😂 )

im gonna be honest, i like him. i think beales bs "football" took a hammer to any confidence he had in trying to get confidence in learning a new league. he always ran his socks off, didnt shy away at all, yes he didnt shoot as much as he should but he still got goals. the comparisons with fredo wasnt fair at all and he was gettin labled with it from the start. id keep him personally, now hes had a season to get comfortable in a new league and now learning big phils style, you could see the best of him. him danillo and igamane as your striker options could be handy.

Dessers far better than Morelos, more goals, more discipline, more availability, better positional play, ok sometimes looks clumsy, reminds me in a small way of Jimmy Millar, find a Ralph Brand to play next to him and he could become a part of a really effective attacking duet. And right now he’s the only reliable goalscorer we have. Must keep him for now.

Not a bad player at all, but as you said not great either. If he was to stay it looks like he will play less football next season. If he is up for that I would keep him, if not get what you can for him.

His availability is something which goes underappreciated imo, especially considering how much injuries we get

Desesers gets chances but as a starting st we can be ambituous and get better. He is a volume player he might not be clinical but gets chances 4 mil and we have to sell at 29 imo

All in all a decent first season

I don't want him to go, he has the right mentality. I know people are annoyed at him for the missed chances but his goal return has been decent. And on the missed chances, most people would have shrunk and disappeared but he didn't, he kept on trying. Without him where would we have been last season?

He had a nightmare start and people never gave him another chance, the treatment he got was ridiculous but he didn't give up when a lot of players would've crumbled. At the end of the day he scored 22 goals and it looks like we are getting rid off him, to me that's just crazy.

Firstly, I'll say it again lol: 'football is not played on paper/computers. Stats are all well and good BUT don't paint the full picture.' His numbers for a debut season are, it has to be said, pretty impressive. There is one area where he does compare to Morelos and that's in the fact that despite missing chances he never once hid as he was always there for the next chance... to miss it too lol. His problem was he couldn't make up his mind especially when through on goal. Part of me thinks that with his numbers on his debut season we should give him another chance in the hope that he 1) Learns to make up his mind early and sticks to it and 2) Learns to SHOOT. Then I think of the chances he missed and what his numbers COULD have looked like. No striker is going to score every chance he gets; it was reckoned that McCoist scored 1 in every 3 chances but for big Dessers it must be, what, 1 in 8, 1 in 9, maybe even higher? We also have to take into account that he is 30 in December and if we keep him there's no way we will be able to sell him and get the money we paid out for him, unless of course he is on fire in the upcoming season and is scoring regularly in the league and Europe but is that a chance we are willing to take? There is no way I consider the big man a "flop" but for me, I've seen enough to say that "if we are getting back the same money or close to it, that we paid out for him then we should take it and let him go with our thanks.

54 appearances but its 38 games by mins actually played (adding up all his mins and dividing by 90)... 31 goal contributions in 38 games, dunno what more people are asking for a striker in his 1st season at the club, bearing all the pressure of being the only consistently available striker and facing a barrage of abuse from all angles including our own fans... the problem is other strikers not being fit enough to share the load and the rest of the team not chipping in enough goal contributions, he's one of the few well worth another punt next season imo...

There is a fair bit if negative points for big D9 but in my opinion he deserves a second season. He was the only one available up front last season and he didn't hide or make excuses and for that he deserves a shot. I genuinely think he will have a better season now he's bedded into the league

Good video CJ. I think Dessers did well for his first season and I have no doubts with a clement pre season under his belt he would be better this season. I would prefer him to stay. But... looks like we will sell him for a profit, so hopefully we can get a younger striker in that will adapt quickly to the spl, or... get shankland signed.

For someone who is not suited to our game being too calm in front of goal, unlike Colak who was ideal in that he was instinctive,his return was good.Everyone would like the type of striker who is in demand but let's be honest,we can't afford them and they do not want to come here.I am not his greatest fan but I am a realist.If he wants to stay,keep him.

If we can recoup the money we spent I'd probably let him go. But if not then I'd give him another season and hopefully makes up for the money that was spent.

If the Gers don't at least try and sign big Shanks, Craig, I'd be rather worried about your season ahead. With that being said, I agree with some of what you said, I'd be keeping Cyriel, he's banged in over 20 goals in his first season, a season of mayhem I might add, so I'd be very curious to see what he does this season now that he knows how our game in Scotland is played.

The only Dessers problem was we had to hang our hat on him, that wasn't his fault. Yes he missed some glaring chances but all in all he did well. I think fans forget that if he was any more prolific than that then he WOULDN'T be at Rangers, simple as

New team, new country, new team mates, new manager, new tactics and not to mention the pressure of playing for our club etc but yet he's got 22 goals. We had 2 poor runs last season, at the start with Beale at the helm, and after we got past the other team. We need a more unified team that pushes every game. Dessers doesn't fit that narrative im afraid. He is a gamble every game. We need a Shankland type striker. Going into every game with hunger and desire. 🇬🇧

He improved over the season (you could see he was much fitter) but he can't be our main goal threat. We need him as part of a front 2 (which I think we should be playing against low block teams anyway) or as an impact sub.

Would definitely sell if we get a decent offer he’s a good player and works hard for the team as everyone is saying but hasn’t been good enough at putting the ball in the net which primarily his job is and it has cost us games and points this season.

He's not exceptional, but every time we sign a striker and they score 20 odd goals in a season, we sell them. How does that lead to winning the title. Keep a hold of him. Bring him on if we are struggling. We need options. Not to sell every option we have.

I'd keep big dessers for the simple reason that as you have repeatedly said cj it was his FIRST season and he didn't have a settled team around him , still had those numbers yes he missed chances but he will tighten that up and score a bucket load with another chance I truly believe that he will and become our first choice not through necessity but as first name on the team sheet

Dessers is in EXACTLY the same situation as Hagi. Both outstanding players that don't quite fit our system. Can we not find a system that suits BOTH of these players? For me, Dessers and Hagi would be the players I'd build my team around, but Danilo could well be the main man if he stays fit. WATP

He probably should get another chance, however he needs to score more with the chances he had. His work rate was pretty good. With another striker in the pool of players he will have to fight for his place which may bring him on more.

Of Course He Deserves Another Chance, WE Can't Start The Season With Just One Main Striker And The Young Moroccan Boy , Who has been described as a project and one for the future If We're Not Signing a striker who can hit the ground running then we might not have a choice but to keep him,because we'll not have a back up striker if Danillo gets injured, And it looks like the management team don't think any of the boys in the under 21s are good enough so therein lays the problem ,we need a proven goal scorer in before we sell the big man, or that mob could be out of sight before Christmas🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

It's about the eye test. If we can get our money back on the strength of his statistics, he needs to go. Although we shouldn't sell him off cheaply, he has value to the squad.
