The haunting images and sounds of this Australian summer shocked the world and will long endure in the memories of a heartbroken continent. The bushfire that tore through Cobargo in south-east NSW in the fading hours of last year was unlike any in recent memory.
Like other fires that raged in every state and territory this summer, it spread with greater speed, reach and intensity than anyone can remember in Australia’s modern history.

I understand the frustration with the Prime Minister in this documentary, but I respect him for saying he doesn't care if it destroys his career. "It's not about me. It's about the job I have to do." As an American who watched a former President attempt to destroy our democracy for his personal gain, sanity and personal responsibility, however imperfect, is precious to see.

Yes as an American it's odd to see a "leader" put the right thing before their career. America is cluster f right now. The media pumps out propaganda and lies. And we have two candidates that aren't the best of choices. You have one that wasn't even elected that's insane, then you have one that has such a target on his back that he was literally shot. Then you have the media that pumps out the hate and bs that lead to the attempt on trumps life. I mean shoot they paint this picture that the guy is hitler and the end of democracy yet when he was prez he didn't get us involved in wars, the economy was booming, we didn't have any concerns about illegal immigrants invading the country. It's wild if the media wasn't so biased against him, it wouldn't even be a competition, he would have been president right now and we wouldn't be dealing with the border issue. There's a good chance there wouldn't be a Ukraine Russian war or hamas Gaza war. It's kind of sad seeing fellow Americans buy into the media bs about trump and not think for themselves and just look at the actual facts of his performance as president and then compare it to biden/kamala's term in office. If you put the two on paper just A vs B you'd see that trumps terms went much better, especially for the average person

The Canadian government has spent $800 million for initiatives that support wildland fire response, prevention and mitigation. The Canadian military was sent to British Columbia to aid firefighters in 2023 and was a visible presence in my small town. What is the Australian government doing?

I think it’s hard for those of us who don’t deal with frequent bush fires to comprehend. I’ve seen it explained as an annual thing, if you run every time, you’re constantly rebuilding. It’s like people who live in hurricane or flood prone areas & stay when it’s forecasted as a Cat 3 or under.

With the climate change it may come to a point where the only logical thing to do is to begin depopulating the country and creating bunker style homes for fire retreat along with perhaps mobile homes for everyday living. But that's logic. Humans often need a lot of help before logic can operate. Looks to me like the weather down under is only going to get worse and worse.

As much as this wasn't directly ScoMo's fault, one may marvel at his continued ability to put his foot in his own mouth. People don't need his advice on how to handle loss, they need an undertaking from him that everything will be done to avoid this happening again, and that's why people were so angry at him back then. He shifted blame to the state government (not unjustifiably) and proceeded to do very little. That's not the action of a prime minister.

ScoMo was absolutely horrendous at Cobargo. They all saw it as a political stunt and that's exactly what it was. His criticism was rightfully deserved.

Its crazy. On 9/11 the ground all planes. When something like this happens i cant understand y they cant in that area, wether its australia, america, or where ever, ground planes n automatically send all fire drop planes helicopters to the area n just water bomb, instead trying to tackle it on ground espesally if its gt so bad. N i mean even if they have to get water drop planes from other countries then so b it. Its crazy. The reason i sY bout the grounding of the planes at the time is to clear air traffic to allow for water drop to have i,ediate safe skies to the fire stuck nightmare.
