Dr. Carruthers (Béla Lugosi) gets revenge over the cosmetics firm he sold out to; by creating a giant bat that kills people! Mwahaha!
This would appear to be your standard Lugosi-is-an-evil-scientist film; cheesy and uplifted by Lugosi's acting talent, but it is actually self-aware; it's a horror comedy!
Reporter Johnny Layden (Dave O'Brien) and his sidekick photographer/friend "One-Shot" McGuire (Donald Kerr) give us our protagonist and comic relief, making light of the situation for the sake of getting a good story; it's the newspaper that dubs the bat "The Devil Bat".
