"Ego Trip" is a genuine masterpiece. I remember first watching it on Cartoon Network's "Cartoon Theatre" block back in 2003. I even had it tape recorded too.
I got to watch this movie last year in a double feature with the 1986 Super Mario OVA and it was worth the watch after all those times I missed out on it.
One of my all-time favourite animated films...even if it only aired on TV. Taped the film on telly back in 1999 or 2000 when it aired on Cartoon Network (back when CN aired not only DEXTER but also FLINTSTONES, WACKY RACES, etc.) then got the VHS at Woolworth's. Always found EGO TRIP to be quite violent for its U-cert especially that torture sequence.
The action feels like it's straight out of Samurai Jack or the 2003 Clone Wars series, so it seems like Genndy really was planting his flag with this particular movie. 😄
I loveDexter’s Lab, I used to watch it all the time on CITV back in the day, next to ‘Hey Arnold’ it was my favourite show. Speaking of merchandise being scarce, in the 000s I remember going to the ‘Warner Bros store’ and my mind being blown that the show did actually have a somewhat limited run of toys etc. Hope there’s more Cartoon Network to come😀
Ah, the fabled Warner Bros. store - never ever got to visit it! I did have some toys from the show, like a big Dexter that opened up into a playset of the lab, but I remember really wanting toys from this movie specifically. 😆
I own the US version, only instead of the four Dexter’s Lab episodes this version comes with, it comes with both a Dial M for Monkey and Justice Friends segment from the first season of the series right after the movie.
When I was a child in Newfoundland; I used to get 5 dollars every dollars; and I took that 5 dollars every week and brought a pokemon vhs. I had over 100 of them. I swear I had all first seasons and 2nd seasons. There was a shelf I put them where I'd just look at them and make sure they are all rewinded... Man... Im only 32 but this feels anicient. Kids will never know wtf im talking about :/
According to Bulbapedia, the first season got 26 volumes on VHS in North America. Season 3 got 13 volumes, Season 4 got 9 volumes, and Season 6 got 8 volumes, while seasons 2 and 5 skipped the VHS format entirely, for a total of 56 VHS volumes.
Awesome knowledge about 4 bonus Cartoon Network Dexter’s Laboratory UK-only cartoons on that VHS @ 3:19-8:12 while here in the states is 2 bonus non-Dexter’s Lab cartoons featuring Dial M For Monkey & The Justice Friends in “Krunk’s Date” & “Rasslor” guest starring Randy “Macho Man” Shvage.
02:02, I do! Choices was better than Blockbuster! 05:50 and 06:56 remains both of my favourite DEXTER episodes, makes me cry though seeing it with nostalgic eyes. Always reference it with family.
