This is such an interesting story to me, because I think it's a fantasy that so many teenage girls actually have at some point. Women do grow up quicker than men generally, and so 14, 15, 16 can be a tricky time for girls who are seeing themselves become women and perceive themselves as such more and more.. but beside them the boys are still very much boys for the most part, immature and awkward.. I may be overly generalising, but I wonder what girl has never had a (major) crush on a teacher or some other adult male around her, a ''real man'', and were it not for the fact that such a relationship is illegal, would have actually loved to pursue it had the gentleman also been interested.. There is a reason why most women are in relationships with older men, I think. And it's a tendency that a lot of us acquire quite early on. Right about the same time we discover our sexuality, really. So I think that a lot of us can watch the movie and live some of our own teenage fantasies through this daring young lady.. The thrill of it, the sense of power.. It's not just THIS teenage girl. I think we can all relate..
It felt exactly like that! You are right. I now am thirty and still fantasize about being a teenager and having a relationship with an older man. This movie was great, and put me right back into all the emotions us girls go though at that time. I am sure I would have acted on those feelings when I was Mini's age if the opportunity had presented itself.
There were parts when the feeling got genuine and deeper. He was not shown as just using her and infact later wanted to wait fir her to come of age and then they can start a relationship. Its not always possible to restrict feelings and not always possible to save them for the most suitable one. I don’t think either of them are playing perfect role models, they are just playing normal human flawed characters.
