This is the best explanation I have ever heard explaining the difference between so-called "christian" meditation and true biblical meditation. God commands us to renew our mind with the truth of His word, not by emptying our minds to nothingness. Love this. Thank you!

with a mind filled of your own interpretations you cannot hear what He is saying. Your own mind must go before His can enter. The mind is not a thing so its not that anything gets emptied. Its when the shatter stops that the fullness of Christ becomes visible within ourselves.

During meditation, I fill my mind with abundant thoughts. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. I meditate to bring my mind back to the present moment. I really dont see any evil in that. How can i hear God if all i hear are my thought. God doesnt want us to worry or he anxious in anything. Edit: after writing this comment 1 year ago. I've come to find out that the scripture doesn't tell us to empty our minds, but to renew our minds with the word of God. I was never able to quiet my mind but i was able to change my thinking to align more with God word. God bless. 🙏

I can’t thank you enough. I’m a recovering addict and as part of my 12-step recovery I meditate. I’ve experienced the “neuro-phenomenon” but my new, busy life means I can’t keep it up. That creates anxiety and fear that I will relapse. I will try biblical meditation now. My desire is to hand over my will and my life to the care of a loving God and not to chase an experience which is mood altering.

While I think prayer is good, why don't you also observe your addiction. Give it the attention a mother would give to a little baby. Watch the arising, the craving , becoming and ending and the suffering it causes. The more you can observe every detail of the mechanisms at play the more the addiction looses its power.

Hey brother in recovery myself. I actually just started to learn how powerful the mind is by accident, didn’t realize I was meditating til the “neuro” stuff started. Anyway I followed the leads I had and found my mind had a whole lot of healing to give me if I could just learn to listen to it. Anyway I just want to encourage you that as far as I can tell meditation doesn’t seem compulsive or “chasey” at all. What it offered me was a place where I could deal with any of my thoughts that are attached to addiction without my brain going haywire. For me, I had quit coke by sheer force of will and made a habit of shutting down my thoughts when coke entered them. This was helpful, but it meant I stopped healing. Years later, I caught myself starting to think about coke after meditating. I had the knee jerk response to “stop thinking” and felt how painful the whole process was and let myself have the thought. And it didn’t hurt. Wow! Also I had a long run with benzos and tho I knew I was off for good my brain just screams for tranquilizers all day long. Through meditating, I’ve seen this desire that feels lifelong finally fading to be replaced with a desire to enjoy life as it is. Anyway that’s all to say I think meditation offers a lot of healing for addiction. While it has been the source of incredible joy I never find myself going into my mind to get good feelings, more like to deal with bad ones which isn’t really tempting lol. Hope you are doing well

Wake up! Wake up! Get up, O Jerusalem! You drank from the cup the Lord passed to you, which was full of his anger! You drained dry the goblet full of intoxicating wine. There was no one to lead her among all the children she bore; there was no one to take her by the hand among all the children she raised. These double disasters confronted you. But who feels sorry for you? Destruction and devastation, famine and sword. But who consoles you? Your children faint; they lie at the head of every street like an antelope in a snare. They are left in a stupor by the Lord ’s anger, by the battle cry of your God. So listen to this, oppressed one, who is drunk, but not from wine! This is what your sovereign master, the Lord your God, says: “Look, I have removed from your hand the cup of intoxicating wine, the goblet full of my anger. You will no longer have to drink it. I will put it into the hand of your tormentors who said to you, ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you.’ You made your back like the ground, and like the street for those who walked over you.” Isaiah 51:17‭-‬23 NET

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfishness in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth. Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical. And the fruit that consists of righteousness is planted in peace among those who make peace. James 3:13‭-‬18 NET

From James, a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes dispersed abroad. Greetings! My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything. But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a double-minded individual, unstable in all his ways. Now the believer of humble means should take pride in his high position. But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow. For the sun rises with its heat and dries up the meadow; the petal of the flower falls off and its beauty is lost forever. So also the rich person in the midst of his pursuits will wither away. Happy is the one who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires. Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death. Do not be led astray, my dear brothers and sisters. All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change. By his sovereign plan he gave us birth through the message of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. So put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls. But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves. For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone who gazes at his own face in a mirror. For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgets what sort of person he was. But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out - he will be blessed in what he does. If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile. Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:1‭-‬27 NET

But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:19‭-‬24 NET

But filling your mind with what? This is how people are stuck in religious delusion as well. And when folk say to fill their minds with bible text, not all text are interpreted the same way. So, they fill their minds with church interpretations of a text, which alot of times don't apply to them. At least, someone who is into breath and mindful meditation, accept the realities of life as it is. They are naturally being in tune with natural truth. It is hard to religiously decieve these people, I think 🤔

Meditate on God's word day and night. That is what the Lord says about meditation. Constantly think about the scriptures you red as you go on your daily life. You can also sit in silence, read the word and meditate (think) about what you read.

People somehow think that mindfulness is wrong for Christians, but knowing yourself and your motivations honestly, no matter how sinful they are, and accepting that they're there, is really important if you want to avoid sinful actions. Meditation on the body, feelings, and thoughts can help with this. Meditation on the breath and quieting the mind can make you become more aware of the power of God and your personal communion with the Body of Christ rather than just your own isolated self. I would recommend starting each meditation with a prayer for Christ's protection, to consecrate the quietness for the Lord and keep any other potential influences at bay.

I just started to quiet my self after listening to TedTalks of how helpful Silence can be. I did not think specifically for it as a meditation until the second time I tried it. I just thought of training my heart and my mind to what really matters most and helpful to recover from depression that I am battling for months. I find it very effective and now literally taking advices if it is acceptable to God though my meditation is focusing on letting go of all the negative thoughts that's crippling me and remembering God's word in my head into heart. I find it very helpful and at peace. I also noticed that it changes my attitude outwardly, though I am still recovering my very goal for doing this is to learn To Be Still and Know God.

Why not take a simple look at EVERY MENTION of the word “MEDITATE” or “MEDITATION” in your Bible? Below is a look at of 15 of the possible 20 verses from my KJV:  Joshua 1:8 - Meditate on “This book of the law” … “day and night”  Psalm 1:2 - Meditate on “the law of the LORD” … “day and night”  Psalm 63:6 - Meditate on God - “remember thee” … “meditate on thee in the night watches.”  Psalm 77:12 - Meditate on “all thy [GOD’S] work”  Psalm 119:15 - Meditate on “thy precepts”  Psalm 119:23 - Meditate on “thy [GOD’S] statutes”  Psalm 119:48 - Meditate on “thy [GOD’S] commandments” … “thy [GOD’S] statutes”  Psalm 119:78 - Meditate on “thy [GOD’S] precepts”  Psalm 119:97 - Meditate on GOD’S Law “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.”  Psalm 119:99 - Meditate on “thy [GOD’S] testimonies”  Psalm 119:148 - Meditate on “thy [GOD’S] word”  Psalm 143:5 - Meditate “on all thy [GOD’S] works”  Isaiah 33:18 - Meditate on “terror” (for the wicked)  1 Timothy 4:15 - Meditate “upon these things [DOCTRINES and SPIRITUAL GIFTS]; give thyself wholly to them”  Psalm 49:3 “My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.” Therefore, our prayer should be: “Let the WORDS of my MOUTH, and the MEDITATION of my HEART, be ACCEPTABLE in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14) for we can easily have UNACCEPTABLE words and meditations. There is no wrong or right way to meditate as long as your motive is to get closer To Jesus. How do you think you Will be able To hear him unless you first quite your mind? Quiteing your mind is good (trying To think about nothing and focusing on your breath or clearing your mind of all thoughts) if your intention is right. When you quite your own thoughts you will then be able To hear God more clearly. Don't allow anyone To tell you how To pray or how To meditate. There is no one right way. In the ancient meditation traditions it was always about connecting with God. There were different techniques, but the goal was the same. It was only later with the rise of buddhism etc. that meditation became more of a process off self exploration than a tool for connecting with God. What was a means to an end and a tool became the end itself. Still, mastery of thoughts has always been a basic prerequisite for spiritual development and it has it’s time and place. Even in the ancient Jewish meditative schools which all of the prophets of the bible attended, mastering the thoughts was an essential part of the process.

I think this is the best video about meditation + Chritianity. I am a Christian for several years, and Mindfulness meditation has helped me a lot in my Christian life. I think it comes down to what your purpose for doing it is. Mindfulness meditation is about having control of what you have running in your thoughts and be able to stop trains of thoughts going the wrong way. Plenty of times, it has allowed me to stop sinful thoughts before they become actions --- even the Bible speaks about sin in the mind. I do Mindfulness Meditation every day, to have full control over my thoughts and be the better person, God wants me to be. It's from my want to be more useful to God. Some pilots are taught Mindfulness Meditation, to be as relaxed as possible in case something goes wrong during a flight. Like a Pilot, I think it helps us not panic and remember to trust Jesus more. Although I love Mindfulness Meditation, I still do not suggest it to younger Christians - as it could mislead them. Your purpose for doing it should be rock solid for the Lord.

In my experience and understanding, mindfulness meditation is a practice of training the mind. The goal is to recognize thoughts as they come to your mind and then choose whether or not to pursue that thought. In daily life, we typically chase any thought that arises to our minds. This is not what Paul told us to do. We are told to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." How can we do this if we are not present with the thoughts that come to us? As stewards of the physical bodies we inhabit, we are charged with caring for them as "temples of the holy spirit (of Christ)." We exercise, eat right, etc. Why would we not also train our minds to have the fruit of the spirit of self control? (now, this is just me thinking out loud): perhaps when we use the meditation as a dopamine high, or an escape, or to worship the creation; instead of the creator, we have not used the tool as a training mechanism, but as a distraction away from the God that is our source of all our needs and fulfillment. I'm open to your thoughts.

The bottom line.. if you prioritize your life to glorify & seek God .. your instinct will be to meditate on HIM. His word. His son. Scriptures. You will “heal” your body & mind best from this practice. Continually seeking God & meditating on Him & His word. Not only is the result healing but the intent is closeness with the Lord .. versus self oriented.. self help.. self healing.. self centeredness.. self self self. You will only have temporary relief thru all other meditation that is focused on self healing.. quieting the mind.. emptying the mind etc It’s a bandaid to cover a symptom. The true cause of most mental anxiety & disturbance is a spiritual void that only God can fill. So why not start there? Start healing & quieting your stress with the Lord .. you won’t need any other form of meditation. He can heal you in a way that all the self help healing meditating in the world never can. And why risk opening yourself up to demonic attack?? So many Christians warn of this when practicing these self healing rituals that mess with energy chakras astral protection etc. Anything that has you channeling or redirecting or quieting your “energy” is not of God … & is therefore opening you up to spiritual attack. All the time we spend searching for new methods of healing our minds & bodies with techniques pills herbs books meditation & on & on & on … should be spent seeking the Lord. Getting right with God first .. will heal you & truly quiet your life & bring you everlasting peace. You simply will not need any other form of self healing or meditation.

@@elleb517 This fear-based aversion to meditation is not the way. Mindfulness meditation, where we sit quietly and acknowledge the bodily sensations, feelings, and thoughts that may arise and cease, without thinking on them or getting on a "train of thought", is another tool in the Christian life, especially if we start each session with a prayer to Jesus for his aid and protection. Any concerns about demonic attack can be put aside if we invoke the Lord to protect us. This meditation can be particularly important, because it can help us stop ourselves from sinning, since we become more aware of the bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts that may drive us to sin. Being more aware of them in our daily lives helps us avoid them. Thus, we can become more pure in our Christian lives. Mindfulness meditation has no relation to channeling, energy, chakras, or astral projection. None of those things are really relevant to the goals of the Christian life.

Thank you so much!!!! That’s exactly what I was looking for! I knew there was a way to meditate on God’s word, but I didn’t want to reduce His word/name down to a mantra, I always heard that even a bible verse can be devalued to a simple mantra if you repeat it to yourself for 20 minutes, because you’re just filling eastern methods with God’s word like plugging numbers into a mathematical formula

After reading a book on personal development, i wanted to start practicing visualization this morning. Then i asked myself " is visualization a good thing to do for a Christian?". Doing some research i found your video, and i can't help but praise the LORD for your enlightenment. Thanks very much for this explanation that made me aware. I also thank the LORD for some comments which are really instructive to me. God bless you all.

I received an intense supernatural experience after reading the Bible, seeking God intensely during a very dark night of the soul. After the awakening, it was more like a download of information in me and there were Scriptures I was directed to reference to explain what was happening. I consulted a Priest who directed me to spiritual exercises to discern the Holy Spirits call. Once I heard mantra and visualization I immediately retracted. God does speak to His people both through His Word also through the Spirit placed within you any time of the day as a means to draw you nearer. I received internal revelations in the stillness of my garden as well as dreams. God speaks in many ways. However I believe a person levels up spiritually when they do read the Living Word. It is called lectio divina in the RC tradition. It is the Word that gives life, spiritual life, the living waters in your soul. Make your prayer from the heart "Father reveal yourself to me. I want to know you" and read His Word. If you have His Word written on your heart, you will have the two edged Sword of Truth.(Matt. 10:34-36). In that way when you enter into any area of prayer/meditation/contemplation, you are not fooled by the enemy who poses as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14). I notice a significant uptick in Eastern practices in Western Christianity. Mediating should not be an emptying of the mind but rather filling it with Gods word. I was led to a great book called Dynamic Contemplation which explains my current practice by Paul Hinnebusch. Mediation can be done even in the midst of activity. Then your whole life becomes a prayer. There is so much conflicting info out there.

Let us ASK GOD to define our acceptable meditations. Amen

There is a saying that all rivers reach the ocean. They go different way. Some long some short but eventually reach the ocean. So there may be different approaches/methodology but you find what you seek if you are sincere. Why different ways, because each one is different from the other and we have to find our own way. Diversity is the very nature of creation.

If here is no connection with the heart, one cannot discriminate pure understanding from delusion. The thinking mind is not able to perceive reality because it is abstract and prone to conditioning. Only experiencing the love of God brings us to reality, and that happens without words.

It intrigues me that people who believe that 'God is all and in all' are so often afraid of unfamiliar ways and unfamiliar approaches and unfamiliar people. The impression given is that fear and not trust in God's presence is what predominates. This thought is a question rather than a conclusion.

I tried this mind emptying meditation it was scary to find myself in a different town standing in the rain, I was conscious of the whole thing, in another I was seeing through the eyes of a bird, I could tell I was a bird, my conscious told me that and I also saw my self looking at the world as if from the eyes of the sun, this experiences where kind of scary for me but I learned that one can relly become one with nature or we have a connection at a certain level.

My comment is.... I've been doing meditation in the way taught by Dr. Kay Fairchild and have had spasmodic success. Very recently I became troubled at night and could not rid myself of negative thoughts. It was then that I rediscovered speaking in tongues as a form of " meditation". Even thinking in tongues is very helpful to be continually mindful and empowered. I'm exploring this neglected treasure with great joy. Thanks for clip my Freedom ARC friend.Michael Tulk.

Mindfulness isn't meant to be about meeting God. It is about seeing that the thoughts that come into our minds aren't always from a cool and controlled self. It enables us to see anxiety and false beliefs. When we pray without first listening we are praying from the place of these runaway thoughts and binding ourselves to the problems themselves.

I've been practicing TaiChiChuan - Sun and Yang styles going on 4 years. When my class sues the term meditation, we are paying attention to and modifying as needed - posture, breathing; and no we do not perform the advanced yoga breathing techniques, and weight. As a Christian, I have no problems with my conscious in regards to my practice. I have learned about some Daoist doctrine. It is completely unscriptural so there are lines that I can not cross. TCM and early philosophy could be called doctrine of demons. We use some of it in class as related to TaiChiChaun as it is traditionally used and it stops there. Yoga is pure evil and can lead to demonic possession and influence. This we need to stay far away from.

@@JE-western-rider Thanks for your reply... I would agree in aspects, that Eastern Martial Arts could just be physical exercises. But I experienced with many teachers different. Actually I like the Kuens/Katas etc I learned - but forgot many over the years. Tja, how to remember more than 80 forms if not practiced often? But coming to the main point: I practiced the last years ChenTaiChi very intense. It has many good physiology aspects. But also I saw teachers with a "rich" background in "esoteric" thinking here. In my opinion the relationship between yoga and tai chi chuan is very close. And if you would only take the physical aspects - it should neither be called yoga or tai chi any more... maybe I am wrong... Because I understamd your writing very good and thought many years the same... Cheers, Norbert
@JE-western-rider
@JE-western-rider 2 года назад
@@ngtube9 Sir, I'll have to read your response again. You made several good points. The first one is the relationship between instructors that teach both yoga and Tai Chi. These teachers eliminate the martial aspects of Tai Chi and incorporate yoga [esoteric] practices to make the Tai Chi more appealing to a wider audience. When I was just starting out, a small voice inside of me told me to stay away, far away from and yoga instructor regardless of what the person is teaching. Yoga, regardless of how it is presented, is worship of Hindu gods. The key is discernment and a voice [ the Holy spirit ] telling me right from wrong.
@ngtube9
@ngtube9 2 года назад
@@JE-western-rider I had a similar experience with taichi teachers, who also had minor or big relationship to yoga. An internal voice somehow warned me to practice yoga. But I also felt not always good, when practicing taichi, because a lot of teachers are very near to doaism, which has a lot of "esoteric" things inside (too). Have a good day, Norbert
