I agree on the space aspect on the platform. the second one is known as a slide and plug door there a lot better compared to the folding in leaf door on your bus as they also use them on most middle doors on boris buses and london buses too the keep the door out of the way and allow for more space and better flow. they also use that type of door on trains and trams as well generally.

When BC Transit (in Victoria, BC, Canada) had their Dennis Tridents, they originally had doors that swung into the bus like you showed there. Although both doors opened and closed inwards, not just one. We used to have a rope blocking the area where the door opened and closed. However when the buses were refurbished around 2011 they changed the doors to swing-out "Plug" style doors.

Correct, Ten years now. The NBFLs that have the sliding doors, the back has been completely redone. The little inward opening door has been welded in, as there is no need for it to open. The back door that slides has got a new bar on the window next to it (in front of where the passengers sit). And an additional larger bar as been replaced with the small one (on the door next to the sliding door). The flooring has also been refurbished.

The inward opening rear door was originally going to have like a conductor or PSA, which would stand there for safety and give driver starting signal, only few routes had them to start with, and this idea was scraped and they was made redundant. So need for inward opening door was not required I think from LT500 to 1000, someone could correct me if wrong on fleet number sliding door started on. And first route in service was 38 in 2012. p.s. I have 24 corgi models of the LT so would say I am a fan of them.

Congratulations on learning to drive a bus. I cant believe it was 20 years and 6 months since I started learning up in Huddersfield. The time has since flown by. @barryjarvis2908

Personally I don't think they would retrofit a sliding door on those with inward ones, the cost reason with the fact of money constraints at present and with fleet aging would it be worth bearing in mind life expectancy of these think is 15 year's and dought if any other operator would want them as no sales where made anywhere else though at first there was some interest.

Do you ever get people who stand in the way of the opening rear door which causes it to close right after opening? I just experienced it on my bus. I opened the rear door that swings open and someone must've blocked it, it closed on a child, but I was completely unaware as I was looking at the passengers boarding through the front door, until someone came and started banging on my cab door. I don't understand why they create such dangerous rear doors, if the sensitive edge is pressed when it opens it also closes, what kind of dangerous feature is this?

I could be wrong when I say this but my understanding is there is something about the deal when building them that they would only be available for London. I think it’s also why there were exactly 1,000 built as that was the minimum order to allow them to be for London only. I think I once saw Leeds (maybe other West Yorkshire cities as well) was talking about a bus like this there but I’m not sure how similar the bus there would have been. In North London, there were similar buses but without the rear door which I think are now withdrawn. The passenger capacity is also lower on these buses than other double deck buses due to having 2 staircases
