An interesting take on MBTI and the Big 5! Thanks for sharing to inspire my MBTI channel. Randomly discovered your channel through the RU-vid algorithm! 🤟🤟🤟
This literally proves anyone can make a podcast and make people believe their BS. MBTI IS based off of scientific research, although the origin/creation may vary the study itself is accurate in theory. It is NOT like fake astrology where the stars dictate personality but MBTI is the overall consensus of a certain demographic, thats why it is very relatable when you read about your mbti, and can relate to others with the same MBTI. Like any scientific theory, it is not 100% accurate, and differs as you cant generalize ALL people/factors but it doesn’t mean it isn’t based off scientific research and actual human studies. -ps MUSC med student
The M-B categories are all based on poor research and bad science. It is NOT taught to behavioural psychology students or put in practice by reputable therapists.
I don't get it why people are keep so much stand with MBTI while the BIG FIVE doesn't even get retention. Like even we believe MBTI is not a pseudoscience. BIG FIVE(OCEAN) is still a lot more explnatory.
There's often correlation between Big Five and MBTI, I personally experienced this as I'm more INTP (sometimes INTJ) and I'm RLOEI and on occasion RLUEI, which is very common for these types.
Per usual, these two women, Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers have a history that's rarely told 😒 Katharine Briggs earned a college degree, worked as a teacher, wrote novels, and studied human behavior while nurturing intellectual curiosity in her daughter, Isabel Myers, as she worked. Isabel was a psychological theorist who researched for decades and writer "Gifts Differing" that was written by her with her son, Peter Briggs Myers (human personality and how it affects several aspects of life such as career, marriage, and meaning of life). Together, this mother and daughter team transformed the way we understand personality. Theres so much to learn about them!
I know the argument “no formal training” gets used with them a lot and I’m like “oh in the fucking 40s, two women didn’t have modern formal training? Weird”
@@jackhovatter Okay, so? You’re not helping the MBTI’s case here. Keep in mind, it’s the _MBTI’s_ case. This holds either no relevance as a factor in which is more scientifically appropriate. Doesn’t matter even with the obviously understandable reasons for the lack of formal training.
nah, he is wrong, MBTI does have some scientific base, and is correlated to the Big 5 personalities in this order: E/I = Extraversion N/S = Openness T/F = Agreeableness J/P = Conscientiousness now, i dont mean 100% correlation, instead I mean they correlate the highest to each of the 4 Big 5 traits, only neuroticism does not highly correlate with any of the MBTI
@@Alex-pc5fj Thats probably true, but keep in mind, how people solve problems is basically what their personality is, BUT BUT, i do see your point that people often do just place themselves in a box of ENFP or INTJ or etc. when it should be more like 55% E, 60% N, 58%F and 70%P
@@Rossklesit really depends on the measure your trying to look at miles per hour is a terrible way to measure temperature but it does make it “unscientific”
yeah! and wow, big 5 has been around since the 1970s and now people are like, wow, it's a thing! by the way, i'm excited now for listening to people talk incessantly about breaking down conscientiousness into orderliness and industriousness and omg...how their 96 pct industriousness rating explains why they're so successful blah blah blah. this short reminds me that there's really only three things in life that are assured: death, taxes, and semi-smart people dismissing out of fad ideas with arrogance while bandwagoning in the very same manner on the new fads without stopping for a moment to acknowledge the irony.
