I just use jute twine to weave the lattice. At the end of the season, I just detatch the entire lattice and throw the entire mass, jute lattice and plant matter, into the compost. Easy cleanup.

Heres a cool tip from the native American people. Grow corn or maze in between your climbers. Plant the corn/maze a few weeks to a month before. Then the climbers can climb the stalks. Bonus points if you plant pumpkin/squash/zucchini around the outside so it can form a mat that helps keeps pests an weeds out and shades the soil to retain water better. This is called the 3 sisters. 😊

I just kept it as is and made a wall of bean branches over the years which also acts as a privacy enhancement because it blocks the neighbour's view into my backyard better than my actual fence. I have also used this technique to build a sort of roof over my barbecue with beans which is good enough to protect from drizzles and even snow (I let ice form to make it sturdier in the winter).

Thank you, any suggestions for tomatoes. They grow all over the place
@Alyss93
@Alyss93 Год назад
Tomatoes don't have the tendrils to grab onto things, so you have to be vigilant in attaching them to whatever trellising you have. Make sure it is sturdy enough to support the variety you have, and if you don't want a sprawling plant, look into determinate varieties, which behave more like a bush. It also helps to prune your tomato vines to keep them tidier (there's varying guidelines on this, so you may have to experiment to find what works for you).
@sammythefox1057
@sammythefox1057 8 месяцев назад
You can actually do something similar to this, for indeterminate varieties you can 'lay them down' basically tie it, like this, but as they keep growing you pull them sideways
@janet1744
@janet1744 7 месяцев назад
Determinate tomatoes just means there is just one harvest time, Allina one time period. Indeterminate tomatoes are ready to harvest a few at a time.Unless you can tomatoes ,needing a lot of tomatoes at one time, indeterminate tomatoes types are best for a victory garden, picking ripe tomatoes as you need them for what you will eat in a day.

Make a teepeefrom sticks or bamboo canes.push ends into soil around the tomato plant and tie at the top . wrap netting around the outside of the teepee and secure in place .the plants will grow upright with the canes and netting supporting them as they grow .if it gets super cold/wet you can always slip a plastic cover or bag over the top of the canes to protect your plant and remove when the threat has passed

I used welded hog fencing for both peas and beans. My pea trellis is roughly 6ft, and the beans 8ft.. they'll grow beyond that. In the spring, I use an angle grinder with a heavy-duty wire wheel to re move the vines... time spent 30 minutes.

I wish you were around when I found this out this spring😅😅😅 I know this now but I did have really good luck with my piece growing them on a wire fence using electroculture energy antennas. And when I transferred my new beans to my toddler poles with single strings they interlocked amongst themselves and they were so easy to clean I had beans for almost 7 months straight before they stopped producing. It finally got cold where I live. All my stuff died except for my fruit trees and their covered LOL😅😅😅 thank you for the amazing information

My mom used to use some spare cattle fence panels for the beens, and at the end of the year, the panels got thrown on top of a bonfire to burn off the dried, dead vines. Benefit of having a huge garden on a livestock farm, I guess! With the amount of beans she grew, it was less labor to build a fence every year. The method in this video looks much more manageable for a smaller, in-town garden!

A better quicker and easier option is to use a natural fiber twine such as hemp or cotton so you can just cut it off your frame and throw the vines and the natural fiber string in the compost together without having to separate the vines from the string. Stop using plastic in your garden
