Well the mach 1 is only really a trim package and ram air as far as looks go. The motor is a bit different story cam ,heads ,carb, brakes, rear differential ratio but who really counts any of that. The 71 is kinda a different animal compared to a 72 tho 74.
Yes you are right on that but from 1969 til 1973 was the best of the Mach1 after that it was a joke and in 2003 and 2004 the Mach1 came back with a Vengeance but after that it's over as far as i am concerned
I'm not sure If I sent the comments I apologize if this is a repeat comment. Yes 69 to 70 are really completely different styles hoods. Vins really do matter if you are working on a 71 tho. Real m code was the only made 70 and part of 71. I'm not sure if any of this matter to you being that you are working on 72. I'm saying m code 335 engine family. Also not the m code for boats. The whole thing can get confusing due to change after 71. I have a true m code 71 took a lot of time trying to figure it all out.
Yes vin does tell the tale 2F05M180665 is a 72 Mach 1 351 4v Cleveland. 3rd and 4th digit shows either a hard top fastback grande or vert or M1 05 is Mach 1 01 is hard too 02 is covertable 03 is fastback 04 grande 05 Mach 1
They only put a 2 barrel on the 72 because of gas crisis. The 4 was last seen on the 71. I wouldn't really focus on the heads they can be a little tricky to id with big dot small dot star all that jazz. Open it up and see if the rockers are adjustable.
Mosr of these cars have had work done on them. Keep in mind they are around 50 years old depending on year. Don't just assume the vin matches the block or heads.
I got to thinking and to clarify. Yes the 5 m is for a mach 1. Mid was through 71 they started to adapt the motor for emotion standards. The vision of Ford for the mach 1:was lost because of the emissions. They kept the mach 1 has a body / trim package for a more luxurious look. So long story short they are mach 1 but not a true Mach 1
