As a former Formula 1 and current Indycar driver I wanted to share more about the differences between these two motorsports.
Sensations, ergonomics, speed, skills from the drivers : Indycar and Formula 1 are actually pretty different as a driver.

@@Syl31tls I'm in the USA, and believe me not as bad as what you describe, but it was horrible for us to watch too. I think I remember they mentioned they had changed the jumpsuits to a specification that was MORE fire retardant than the previous ones: 20 seconds instead of 10. As far as the gloves they hadn't gotten the new specification, so that was a contributing factor in his hands getting burned. In any case, I'm sooooo happy he's alive and well, AND racing. Thank you for the F1/ Indy car comparison. I've followed F1/Grand Prix racing for 70+ years, but have become soured on it by F1's rejection of Andretti/Cadillac's bid. Since childhood, I've dreamed of a real American F1 effort and to lose it over politics is too much, so I'm trying to learn Indy car racing at this late date. Simple answer is that F1 is a manufacturing series where the racing is about manufacturers building unique cars to compete. Indycar uses a standard chassis and spec components for most of the car, so the competition is more in setup and driving, not manufacturing. Sure there are the technical differences where F1 is more advanced and expensive. But the biggest is just the concept, manufacturers series vs drivers series.

The best way I can describe the difference between watching F1 and Indy is to think of it like the motorsport version of a BBQ. 1 will have a much bigger budget, but the host won't let you use the bathroom and there will be raisins in the potato salad. The other will spend more than they have to make you feel invited. They even serve oval plates for those guests that prefer them.

You described the Indycar car exactly like what I always try to achieve with my setups. Oversteery on the entry, understeery midcorner, and composed on the exit. The talent level there is outstanding.

F1 should go to a P2P only ERS system I think. And maybe the ERS allocation should be race distance based rather than lap increments, I feel like that would bring more passing attempts. Here’s the annoying thing about F1 fans. They all scream “we want more overtakes and a closer field” completely forgetting that overtaking is slow compared to the other cars, which in turn spreads the field out, or they know what they’re doing and want F1 to be a spec series.

IndyCar is far more entertaining to watch with any driver/car having a chance to win each race.

I always enjoy your perspective on the two series. I think it's a shame that some of the Indy car drivers are not allowed to drive in F1 even though they have proven themselves under very stressful competition. Thanks for sharing your views. I wish Indy car would get into the 21st century and put power steering in their cars. If NASCAR can have power steering then Indy Car should to,

If you like racing, Indycar is for you. If you like cool technology, drama, and ROCKSTAR LIFESTYLES, F1 is for you. You can also just like both of them, and NASCAR, and dirt track, and drag racing, and motorcycle racing, snd everything else. They all rule.

Something between these 2 types of Formula: Romain can crash them both consistently, sadly.
