"Direct Drive"
To describe any motor, which directly drives a load or rotor without transmission components, such as gears, pulleys or chains. The term is usually used to describe brushless, permanent magnet synchronous motors, which transmit torque directly to their load or rotor.
These engines often have a short axial height relative to their diameter and a large through-hole bore. Direct drive motors, which produce permanent torque when stationary or moving over short angular ranges, are sometimes referred to as "torque motors"
