Today we're taking a quick peek at the Leica Digilux 3. This is Leica's only 4/3rds interchangeable lens camera. I think the camera has withstood time well; it even has it's own micro cult following who still use it today!

My dad has the digilux 3 that I have been periodically shooting with for years. It seems like it should be obsolete by now but that lens… what a lens. Images have always looked fantastic.

In fact this is also the Olympus E-330. They invented the live view on SLR camera's. Internal it's the same as the Leica. Same sensors , external the Olympus is more advanced. It has a tilting lcd screen . I love this types of cameras, Still using them everyday.

They probably invented the first truly *useful* liveview function in a DSLR, but the Fuji FinePix S3 Pro did come with a rudimentary liveview feature in early 2005.

Love your intro animation. Nice with the sound too! The colors on these old Four Thirds sensors are not bad.

You can use tons of Leica R lenses with an adapter! That’s fantastic!!

The Digilux 2 has video but the newer Digilux 3 does not ....anyone know why?

This camera uses a CMOS sensor, not a CCD. Specifically it's a Panasonic NMOS sensor.

Hey Matt! I loved the video! Nice review! Do you find the RAW file ok to use? I wish to buy but can't finde the raw files to test

I do think the raw files are superb in the old digilux! The only times I'd run into speedbumps would be when I'm shooting in real low light as the files could get grainy. I do think the grain can give a nice film quality however, but it's all up to the user lol!

It's actually LiveMOS, but still captures beautiful colors. I think the last CCD of the 4/3 system was the Oly E-400. E-1, E-300, E-400, and E-500 are such beautiful machines. I'm glad they set a precedent for later 4/3 LiveMOS sensors to follow.

This is a reskinned Panasonic L1.. Its the only Leica Four Thirds made. The Chinese YI Mi was influenced by it.

I had to sell it to fund my future channels content unfortunately. That said, this is a camera I definitely should've kept. It's probably the most usable "classic" digital camera I've come across so far. It's quick, takes sharp images, and produces a very unique look!
