That is a serious Dinghy. The good news is even if you decide to go with a smaller one down the road, that dinghy is a beautiful boat on its own that will always go to good use.

Beautiful dingy. I built a hard dingy years ago and found out the hard way that I could row it fast enough to force water up the daggerboard trunk. I built a plug to insert when not sailing. It was fast enough that I never put a motor on it.

I was surprised at the size of the dinghy in comparison to Duracell. It looked very big while in the shop but when on the foredeck, it shrunk considerably. It looks great. Glad to see you got a chance to break out the paint sprayer too. Thanks for the video 👍👍👍😁😁

Great, you took my Greenhouse plastic suggestion. My nearly free tie-down technique is: place a golf ball sized, round rock under the corner of the plastic. In about 2" from the edges. I wrap it twice with bailing twine or small rope. This grabs the edges very well. Now you have tie-down locations wherever you want. Plus, just cut away when done & you've still got plastic without holes. Go on, give it a go! ~ DiveGirl Deb SV Melittin's Miracle Eugene Oregon

In my opinion using a roller to apply paint uses quite a bit more paint than using a sprayer does. You can adjust the volume on the spray gun so very little paint is put down. The boat is lookin great though man.

A small 2-stroke outboard up to 5hp would make more sense IMO. You would use so little fuel, its more compact, cheap and no need to be concerned about battery charge/range. 90% of the time, just rowing it will be a joy.

Wanted to thank you for the great content and wish you luck on your other adventure (parenthood). My wife and I just had our first last year, its a weird and wonderful ride. Dinghy looks really good, great idea for the hardwood strip Matt, that will pay dividends when you have to lug heavy bits and bobs too and from shore. Good to see you got an option sorted for the boatshed cover that didnt break the bank and lets lots of natural light through to boot. Glad it didn't snag and rip on the frames after all. I had a sneaky suspicion that greenhouse plastic would be a good choice. Look forward to seeing you guys in two weeks for the next episode. Oh and btw go Yani ⛵ 💪😀 ! God bless you all.

That hard dingy looks fantastic and it is the best option IMHO as I see so many people struggle to keep air in all those overpriced RIB's because of UV damage. Personally I'd get a 3-5 HP gas outboard and forget the electric ones as you have no range or power to speak of. Add to that the need for recharging those batteries from your house-bank and you can guess where that is going when those batteries are low too. Keep up the good work! 👍

Two thought on that rather nice dinghy. Please bear in mind these a just thoughts on projects I have never seen done well. If there is any team, you, wife and mom, that can pull it off you're the one. OK here we go. 1) Sacrificial easily replaced wear strips on the bottom. Yep one coral encounter or 50 beach visits and the bottom of the dinghy will say, "you know that hurts" . 2) Well fitted and thoughtfully connected tubes around the dinghy to improve stability and enhance load capacity. Should they be air filled, shaped foam or something else? Please share your thoughts, everyone is invited. I just love to sit on my veranda and watch this team designing and working.

From so many other sailing channels, launching a dinghy from the foredeck with the hailard is not easy when you have to keep it away from the Hull when lowering it. Why not build a rotating small crane that can easily assist you instead of the hailard? The crane can be fixed but it can also be fitted into a prepared hole in the deck. Insert the crane in the hole and Voila!
@TheDuracellProject
@TheDuracellProject 4 месяца назад
I'm actually thinking about using a short spinnaker pole attached to the mast that can be used as a sort of crane/davit to keep it away from the hull and have more control when maneuvering the dinghy on and off the foredeck.
