Can someone please tell me why the "Dinner Party" race (run just before the Preakness) was run on the nice green, unmuddy track yet the Preakness was run in the mud?

The Dinner Party is for turf horses and even though it looks like a nice green track, the grass was long and the turf was very soft, evident in the slower times throughout the racing day. If you look closely, during the race, you can see mud flying. The Preakness is for dirt horses and it's always run on dirt. The track for it this year was sloppy. By the end of any race that day, be it on turf or dirt, you see slower race times and I'm pretty sure most of those horses are tired because the footing wasn't to their liking and many struggled. Hope that helps!

@@user-uf2tx9fm9y Yes this helps. I just didn't understand the turf vs. dirt difference. Honestly, it was the first time I had ever really noticed the difference. Maybe it WAS because the dirt track was so muddy and for the turf race, it had no mud. Didn't seem fair.
