This is probably the first prize I ever regretted redeeming. But after making this video, I might take that statement back. Arcades are very crowded this time of year, so let's take a look at a very... interesting, prize that I won somewhat recently.
A very special thanks goes to Andrew, Victoria, Adrian, Garfield, The Void, and Stella for helping in this production :))

-sweeps in a seemingly random pattern -only serves to push dirt around -stumbles into everything -pretty much useless this isn't a roomba, this is a robot that mimics 5 year old me with a broom.

Try calling up the manufacturer and letting them know you got a defective product. Tell them you don't have a receipt because you won their item as a prize at an arcade. If they aren't trying to scam with the product then they will most likely offer an exchange for the same item. I have a feeling that it didn't suction because that part was broken. Since it actually had a place to collect dust dirt and hair. Also, I doubt it has sensors in the traditional sense but I bet it has some sort of knock sensor for when it hits things that let's it know to back away or turn around. These cheap ones dont tend to have things like mapping or to have very long lasting batteries but they usually do actually vacuum. Even if not done very well.
@moth.monster
@moth.monster 5 месяцев назад
No, there is no suction at all. Notice how at no point does the box mention a vacuum at all. It's a product made only to trick people into buying it.

I highly doubt that. This thing has a single tiny blower fan inside of it, very similar to one that you'd find in a laptop. A fan like that cannot create nearly enough suction to function as a vacuum cleaner.

Many aren't even electronic. They turn around by purely mechanical means. When it crashes into something, the wheels keep trying to turn, making them turn around their pivot point.
@ContinentalFan

To be far to it, the first two or more generations of roomba had no "mapping" feature, only the front bumper that makes it go in another direction. Also, the original roomba had very low suction too. How they got as much dirt as it did still is confusing to me. 😅

Judging by the way I've never seen Brookstone products as prizes at an arcade, I'm wondering that as well. I always thought of Brookstone as the shitty version of Sharper Image, then again Sharper Image went bankrupt in 2008 and is now a totally different company doing the same thing, so I don't know.

I worked as a prize buyer at Round One, not D&B, but one potential reason all the cool prizes may be gone is we can only order/have 1 of the bigger prizes in stock. Iirc we could only have 1 ps5, 1 xbone, etc per store. They have a much higher price tag so you can imagine why dealing with shrink on those items is a nightmare. Also, several months can go by because of vendor stock (IE if Best Buy didn’t have a ps5 and a store was at 0, we couldn’t replenish it). Some fun facts from the office side of the arcade :D

Electronic technician here. The fact, that it charges via USB means, that it's charging Voltage is only 5 Volts, that means, that there's only a 4.2 Volts li-Ion battery inside, like in your smartphone. That may be enough to power the tiny wheels and the tiny brushes, but is not nearly enough to create a usable vacuum to suck up dirt. The real ones, like the ones from Roomba, run on battery packs with over 16 Volts and every one of them have their own proprietary transformer on their charger, to deliver the power to charge those batteries.
@KamiNoBaka1
@KamiNoBaka1 4 месяца назад
Y'know, if that got hit hard enough on top in shipping it could break both the thing that holds the lid closed and the fan that provides the suction. I say this because I know someone who has one of that brand of not-Roombas and it works about as well as the actual Roombas I've seen. Which is to say it's not going to leave any floor spotless but it'll at least pick stuff up.

I remember when Dave and Busters first came to my city. I finally got a chance to play the Luigi's Mansion Arcade Game and it was pretty cool! I also won enough tickets to get a small Psyduck plush, and vowed to rewatch Detective Pikachu with him. I still haven't watched it. However, when I went back with my brother, they wouldn't let us in the door because you had to be 25 to have a minor with you, which I wasn't. Since then, we have stuck to our usual arcade of choice: Main Event. The ticket dispense rate and quality of prizes are about equal, so It's no skin off our noses. Actually, speaking of witch, could you talk about coin pusher games like Spongebob, Wizard of Oz, and (my brother and I's favorite) Willy Wonka? I think they are the best way to get tickets!

Hey Capy, don't know if you're much of a computer gamer, but there's this game on Steam called Coin Game and it's like an arcade simulator - of course, the games are all a little more fair and you can play with unlimited money if you want, so it's sort of like a cathartic version of reality. There's multiple arcades with their own games and prizes each, and also mini golf and cart racing. a lot of the games are more or less 1:1 versions of real arcade games (except for the names and odds of winning). The game also kind of has this ominous vibe to it outside the arcades, people say there's hidden secrets and stuff but I think they're just pranking other people. Dunno. Anyways, seems like something you'd be interested in, I'd definitdly listen to 30+ minutes of you just reviewing the arcade games and comparing them to their real-life counterparts.

Based on the underside, this looks like it works the same way as a cheapo one I got off eBay for $12.71. Their sweep pattern is completely driven by that dual wheel where the hair got stuck. The wheels spin like normal, but then the whole wheel mechanism also rotates around constantly. This creates a slightly oblong circular pattern that more or less moves the thing around the room. When it hits something, that just stalls the wheels while the whole mechanism continues to rotate until it's pointed in a direction that the wheels can then pull it back away from the obstacle again. It's super basic, and if you have any dips in your floor (like I do), the thing will in all likelihood get stuck driving around in a circle in that dip forever. For an added bit of artificial sophistication, a timer can also be added to reverse the wheel direction or rotation speed at random intervals, giving a more sporadic pattern that makes it looks like it might be "sensing" things.

Oh my. The false claim of 'advanced sensors' somehow made me think of Roborock who I think were the first to incorporate LIDAR and some IoT magic to map out rooms and not bump around. The vacuum fan being a cheap blower style fan reminded me of a RU-vid video I saw from 'Dan "Spiffy" Neuman' about a gear-driven ceiling fan that was sold (in the US) out of magazine adverts, as it seemingly used a motor intended for a ventilating fan and was noisy. At that point, the 'vacuum cleaner' looks more like a toy than something serious like a model from iRobot or Roborock. However, the kind of prizes I've seen is understandable, also considering a law that will pass where I live at the start of March 2024 which will require arcade and funfair game operators to cap the value of their rewards and prizes to a maximum of $100 (SGD), which also certainly helps considering how my teenage self couldn't afford any expensive tech and wanted to win a Sony PSP 2000 series that was offered as a prize in one of the Stacker games at his local Timezone (which had since closed down) but couldn't and he gave up. Another arcade offered a PS3 80 GB as a prize, but by then he already gave up.

Got a interesting suggestion for you on a Redemption arcade game to review (Also im just plain curious to how it fully works). Speed of Light over at my Dave And Busters has always been both fun and my main method of gathering tickets especially if you can get the high score for it. It's also possible to cheat it by having a second player with you (Do not reccomend) but if your solo all it takes is just fast reflexes to get the combo going. Only other mention is that it can wear down very easily due to the nature of the game itself.

This thing doesn’t even have electronics inside, let alone microcontrollers. If you are familiar with kids toys, you’ll immediately spot it shares the same “random wheel” as toy cars on the bottom. The axel of that wheel is directly connected to a motor and constantly spins. This rotation works in cooperation with friction of the ground, to create degrees of random movement, causing an illusion of “intelligent path finding”.
@SuperSmashDolls

To be clear the real thing does something similar, but less dumb. The way a Roomba gets full room coverage is by driving forward until the front sensor gets bumped, then spinning randomly and moving forward again. It doesn't really have the ability to map out your entire room and there's no storage for room profiles or anything like that, so it just does that for however long it'd take for the average room of the size you selected to be cleaned most of the time. Arguably the only thing smart about a Roomba is the docking procedure. That being said this sounds like someone saw a Roomba and thought "what's the dumbest way we can build something that technically qualifies as a roomba"

I could have also exchanged or refunded my prize, but I let the refund/exchange period lapse before I had the chance to use it. I like the hoodie I got, though! That being said, the terms of the rewards program recently cost me. I came a few days before the reset to try to qualify for Legend. My chips played that day won't count until this term, so I'm unsure now what level I am, despite how much I've spent. It has a mechanism called a “bump n go” mechanism, pretty much, no sensors, it’s all just mechanical and each time it hits the wall the wheels underneath spin until there is room to roam around… the internals are super barebones probably… Annoying part about other items I have that ALSO utilize the bump n to mechanic is that the wheels cling to so much dirt, I’d say this probably gathers more dirt in the wheels than in the dirt pickup thing.

Some prizes at arcades are kinda bad, this one included I for one have never gotten any really big prizes at arcades so I haven’t had the risk of this to begin with The closest I ever got was years ago at the (then) nearest Dave & Busters with my best friend, where we farmed Monster Drop and got extra lucky with the amount of bonus balls in the machine, there was over 20 in there and I hit the monster jackpot twice. I do feel like it’s mostly a game of skill, considering another time with these same machines I landed a ball perfectly into the smaller jackpot’s ring. I also have some play with the Extreme version, which is just a bigger machine. A lot bigger. Fun games though, would be quite delighted if they got covered eventually

Try pressing the bottom clip with your fingers once to let it click and then it'll hold the lid closed. It's kind of stuck in reverse.

This was a great review of such a terrible product, lol. Love your arcade videos and loved this too, keep up the great work.

When I was a kid, my dad got me an educational kits meant to introduce kids to robotics. It included parts and instructions on how to built a little car that would automatically switch directions when it hit something. This thing moves exactly like that car and even the front looks similar to the sensor it came with which was basically just a switch that send it in the opposite direction.
