Hi. Dave Procupp here. Very nice video. I was the ride manager at the time of the fire. I'm the big fellow with the glasses in the picture of the ride operators. I was very fond of the Ghost Ship and took great pride in keeping all of the "Tricks" and cars running. This was many years ago. I am now 71 years old. Thanks so much for the memories.

I believe he had, also designed a dark ride in Wildwood, NJ, during the 1960's. It was on Hunt's Pier, and was named 'The Golden Nugget', which was an adventurous, dark ride.

I still recall the sound of the car loudly banging into entry door, and the water drips at the end. Since the Henniger and Hughes families sold the park, it has lost some of its specialness. Fortunately, the presence of their old carousel, the “Kangaroo”, “Noah’s Ark”, “Turtle”, and their old wooden coasters utilizing ravines still give a flavor of what the park was in its golden era.

When I think about The Ghost Ship I can still smell the grease and blacklight paint and recall that clacking car sound as it lurched from room to room. Loved it.

Wow! I was 8 years old when this burned down. It was my favorite ride and I cried like a baby when I heard it was destroyed! Thanks for this video, since there isn't a lot of footage or info on it. Also I found it amazing that the park stayed open while it was on fire. Something that wouldn't happen today!

KW has done some upgrades this past winter, the jack rabbit que area is one of them. If u look at the pictures they put up on the wall, the Ghost Ship is one of them. Nice to see.

Wow I grew up going to Kennywood several times a year and never knew about this! I would have been 5 or 6 then so I guess I never rode it, or don't remember it if I did. I am very thankful that the park employees reacted swiftly and everyone got out, it easily could have wound up like The Ghost Train tragedy in Luna Park, Sydney Australia. Mr. Henninger's keen eye and ride attendants evacuating the ride as soon as someone said they smelled smoke saved 6 lives, thank God. Kennywood holds a dear place in my heart, always has, always will!

The Aero 360 is not where the Ghost ship used to be. There is a pizza place on that site. The Aero 360 is on the site of where the former Satellite (Roundup) and Calypso were.

On Ghost Ship, the water wouldn't always turn off at the end of the ride. You always seemed to end up getting dripped on. In all my years of riding Dark Rides, Dracula's Cave at Conneaut Lake Park was my favorite. Ghost Ship at Kennywood Park was a close second.

The fire was likely caused due to an electrical short in the historic building’s wiring. The thematic sets were probably highly flammable.
