Ikr why do asian get so much hate?!people need to know that we can't choose where we are born and if we get a choice to where we will be born, I would probably pick somewhere then asia
Western will soon realize that Asians are the most beautiful, intelligence and talented people anywhere in the world. Chinese also Asian will soon surpass the US the super power of the west!
@@Ethanimations5334 people hate on Asians because covid originated in china, which is an Asian country, so people are blaming covid on Asians. And that's not cool.
When I was in high school choir, another member told me that I remind him of Lea Salonga. I'm half Vietnamese. When I looked her up, I found out she sang in my favorite childhood Disney movies and I was grateful for the huge compliment. I have admired her ever since.
I am American and I think it is disgusting how people can't just ENJOY someone's talent and not bother with who they're or where they're from like see past colors and race people
@@whathappened1737 this isn't the entire case. It's not that Americans envy Filipinos its because that asian hate was a thing long ago and as time pass more asians are getting more hate
I'm an American who moved to the Philippines and they LOVE singing here. It is one of their favorite past times. The first time I ever heard of Karaoke was on one of my earlier visits here before I moved here. In America we have a very strong critical attitude that means you must sing well or it is disaster. The attitude in the Philippines is "go ahead and try". And they have so many really great singers as a result of their openness to getting up and just giving it your best shot. In addition the girls here also soooooo cute! If Miss Universe Contest REALLY knew beauty the Philippine would win EVERY year! Lea has been around for some time now and still looks fantastic. They recently discovered another amazing singer here, Morrissette Amon (her dad was a big fan of Alanis Morrissette and so named his little girl after his favorite singer). If you want to be totally blown away by a song try the "Wish Bus" performance of Mori singing Akin Ka Na Lang (click on the captions cc button the lyrics are touching). listening to Filipinas like Lea and Mori sing is heavenly, and I'm sure that Filipinos who read this could add many more to the list of fantastic singers here.
Yup, I agree. I'm 16, Filipino, and most of the girls in my class just keep vibing, singing to songs. While boys play the guitar or sing a long. It's a nice friend group
I am an American in America. I love Jona Viray. She is my favorite singer, and has collaborated many times with Morissette, who is 6 1/2 years younger.
Fun fact: Philippines is the first with colour granted by the Americans to have its own representative and delegates in the US congress when the Philippines is their colonial territory before the African-Americans. They were amazed of the high intelligence of our Dr. Jose Rizal that they grant its reform advocacy that Spain failed to grant. #HappyPhilippineIndependenceJune12🇵🇭
Sounds debatable... But yes, Lea Salonga defied Race and Nationality. I took jobs reserved for White Men only in over 10 companies. I also charge equal or higher than the wages of the White guys. This video is an insult to Lea Salonga. Because her Talent is above the Cheap Drama of Racism.
I was in high school in the 80's and auditioned for Charity in Barnum. My drama teacher at the time set me aside and told me he would like to give me the part, but it was meant to be played for a caucasian woman. I told him I understood and was disappointed. Years later in college in the late 80's my dance professor in college asked me why I was not in a dance that he thought was right for me. I brushed it off and just told him I don't know. I did know and made no big deal about it. The dance was set in a medieval period. I didn't know about the race issues back then. Seeing Lea Salonga break the asian taboo in musicals made me proud of her and our nationality. Love Lea!
Also worth noting: She played an epic Fantine and has my favorite rendition of "I Dream a Dream." in the 25th Anniversary concert. Her Eponine is legendary, but her Fantine performance gets overlooked. But really, how many people can say they were asked to play multiple roles in Les Mis?
I'm sad to say that when I saw the title of this video, I was the least surprised in my life. I've seen SO many evidence of humanity being corrupted that I really don't find stuff like this surprising anymore and gave up on humanity. I love Lea. She's so inspirational
As an Asian from malaysia, I support all race! If you are Asian or not, I wont care. As Project nightfall says! Talent dont have a nationality, we should give love and support to everyone even if they have talent or not. What matters is them trying their best to give us entertainment
Lol it's not Disney rejected her, its the Musical Les Miserables (perhaps) then she got a call from fhe agency eventually and had the the role of Eponine. There's a full interview on other yt channel...
jake chua That is PURE BS and this video was just copied by another Click Baiting attempt! She is NO Victim and she doesnt have a Victim Mentality. She doesnt think or act like a maid.
Lea is very talented. She deserves everything, from awards, fame,to fans and etc. She's very powerful, her voice always shows emotions that were meant for the song. There's honestly nothing wrong about being asian, it's just that judgemental people are dominating the world. But I hope many people would keep standing up to achieve their dream no matter what their nationality is,I hope we could see more people like Lea.
The moment I first heard Lea Salonga's voice, I immediately fell in love. Even my mother adores her very much. I used to remember as a kid, a yodler when my mom woukd sing me to sleep. She would always sing songs of Ms.Lea Salonga. I am and forever will be proud to be a Filipino. Mabuhay tayong lahat.

Even I as a Malaysian know Lea Salonga and Regine Velasquez are Asia's song birds amongst many song birds in Asia. The West should know, the era of Asia is coming back, AGAIN 😂❤️
Lea Salongga is the Ms Saigon with 2 disney princess Regine Velasquez is one of the Birds, her title is Asia's Song Bird. Kz Tandingan is the Asia's Soul Supreme Sarah Geronimo is Asia's Pop Princess and a lot more.
i have a fillipino friend as well. her voice is absolutely STUNNING, and she sounds like an elegant angel. i one day hope she will be a famous singer by her talents and that nobody will ever reject her because she deserves the world.
As an aspiring Asian voice actress, thank you! You just relit my fire! I'm gonna fucking succeed and get the life I want! Screw racists, biphobes, and misogynists!
I am a Filipino and I witness Miss Lea Salonga as not just the pride of our country but she's the pride of the world, her voice is legend so if you think you rejected her because she is an asian 1 believe Miss Lea will prove that her talent has no nationality♡
@Geory Besana I remember in her younger days where Lea spoke in UK English accent, weren't she was made fun because of it? Who exactly put the standard of the perfect English in the first place? anyway? Americans from the USA? Wasn't English came from England? Does it really matter? And who really cares about English with American or 'English (as for England)' accent? So why would people bothered about Lea's English accent?
It’s not Disney who rejected her. It’s broadway musical show who rejected her. Disney offered her 2 roles and She was named a Disney Legend in 2011 for her work with The Walt Disney Company.
Sam Shah You people are moronic. Disney is not the Issue here. The video said LES MISSERABLES, its a broadway show! Where Lea was cast to play 2 iconic Caucasian Characters!!!! Now imagine if a white Girl will be cast to play Kim in Miss Saigon! Also be informed Lea was sort of fired in Miss Saigon because of Asians who complained!!! The Asians wanted Lea fired. Why? Because they want the job for Americans.
@@Sherryn_ne I'm not sticking to Disney land though, I'm pertaining about the fame she made tru Disneyland and yet they have the guts to say 'she cant' just bec she's an asian
@@educaspe5887 dime a dozen and most of them sound the same. I called them sub-par singers. I quit listening to Western singers. No emotion whatsoever.
Project Nightfall:"Talent has no nationality!" USA Movie producers:I'll pretend I didn't see that Edit:I made this as a joke, but this actually blew up! Thank you :)
Lea is one of my favorite Filipina singers, it’s sad that they rejected her for being ASIAN that’s just racist. Remember that no matter where you are from, you have talent! Love from the Philippines!
Her at age 7: On the stages of the Philippines and gracing everyone with her voice Me at age 7: Closing the fridge door just enough to see the light shut off
The Philippines holds many talented people. I love the Philippines, one of my favourite countries (im not Filipino, I'm Thai) Edit: Wow thanks for all the likes and comments! :D
I'm Filipino, and Thailand is also a very beautiful country. We went there for a cultural exchange event, and I can say that your countrymen are very hospitable. I remember how other students would excitedly introduce us to some famous street food and would show us some bits of Thai culture. ^^
I hit the "like" and subscribed becoz of Ms Leah. She's a legend, wonderful person, no one in this country wouldnt love her and her voice. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much so this video. Truly a tribute to all those who experience prejudice just because you were born of different color. As a Filipino, it made me even more proud of my heritage and my color. We are all equal, we were all born the same way, breathe the same air, drink the same water. Color is just skin-deep.
Love her , very good Artist, Singer, Actress and many more , God made her what she is, so accept it People . Viewing from the Midwest U.S.A. God bless you Always Miss Leah Salonga , 1 of your millions fans.
Lea's impact is evident when you watch the 10th anniversary concert of Les Miserables in 1995 and compare it to the subsequent concerts like the 25th anniversary in 2010. While both casts are stacked w/ talent, the former only featured one person of color while the latter had significantly more. Part of it is b/c those earlier productions wanted to reflect the story's setting: France in the 1800s. For adaptations of the stage musical in other countries, the casting usually reflects the predominant race of that nation (ex: Les Miz in Japan will naturally be mostly composed of Japanese performers). Mixed race adaptations outside of album releases (ex: 1989's Complete Symphonic Recording had an international cast since they don't need to be seen) weren't the norm on Broadway until after Lea's participation. Which was definitely an experiment given that her character's parents were played by Caucasian performers. Note that the 2012 movie adaptation stuck to the traditional way of casting.
I clearly remember learning that it was actually the time when Lea started performing on Broadway that the BLIND CASTING principle was introduced on Broadway.
Why is the Philippines usually called "The Philippines"? Because the Spanish referred to their colony as “Las Islas de Filipinas”. When the Americans came, they translated the colony's name to “The Philippine Islands”. After independence, it was shortened to “The Philippines” - A random Quora user
Oh my mom loved this singer that's because my mom love's singing and one of her inspiration is Lea, Sharon and others. Well in Philippines there are so many great singers
Im a filipino, and proud to be one! Lea Salonga was the first and ONLY singer I knew before, and still now! Im happy to see you made a video on her because she deserves it!
Lea Salonga has been my idol since I was a kid. She's awesome and humble with her amazing talents. Look up to her to never give up no matter how tough it gets.
Her accent is just as good as her filipino. She is one of the example that filipino has a talent to be fluent on any language. And thus filipino have a unique talent and is to be acknowledged.
This beautiful legend brings me to tears with her voice I never knew this Queen lea sang reflections in Mulan I was a little girl 6 all I knew was I loved Mulan and the singing voice captivated my joy my love and my admiration for Mulan she was my whole childhood and now putting such a beautiful lady to my childhood shero voices is simply amazing humbling and such a honor 🎖 there's no doubt now knowing yet another childhood favorite Disney princess jasmine Ms lea Salonga is a true legend incomparable in every arena thank you for making my childhood so great with your beautiful voice
I'm one of those lucky people who got to watch & listen to Leah live on stage and I couldn't forget the feeling of just being so engrossed with how she takes control of my emotions. I literally had to remind myself to breathe. She's so captivating and it doesn't matter if you're listening to the song for the first time, she sings it like she's telling a story. She's just phenomenal.
Im a filipino and also Lea Salonga is one of the most famousr singers in the Philippines, she's also one of the judges of the voice Philippines because of how she teaches young singers to sing with pride, joy, and freedom
Yes ..really true that talent has no boundary......as Filipina i really really love Lea Salonga smooth and clear voice...Thanks for posting and appreciating too...
"I can't resent all that, if it lead me to all of this and if it meant making things easier for succeeding generation of asian actors. You know what it's all worth it." -Lea Salonga.
We all know that all filipinos are proud of lea for not giving up hope Its sad that she was judged by her race you should never judge a book by its cover cause under that case may be something amazing
