All the ones at Disney World were indeed restored. At disneyland, the first 2 (C. K. Holiday # 1 and E.P. Ripley #2) were built on disney property back in 1954 while the other 3 are all restored locomotives.
My favorite in Ck Holiday when I was a kid I did a tender ride on the ep ripley and got to ring the bell coming into the stations that memory will stick with me forever
The best kept secret on those trains are that if you are at main street station, Try this: ask if you can ride in the cab. They will let you only if you ask using the words: "Tender Seats"
The Disneyland Railroad was originally called the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad from 1955 to 1974. In 1974,The Name was Change into Disneyland Railroad from 1974 to The Present.
trains number 3 and 5's wheels look like cumbres and toltec's wheels. even though trains number 2 and the two 4's wheels had 4 pilot wheels and 4 training wheels.
You don't have to say "Tender Seats" to get a ride near the cab. You just have to ask and if the engineers are able to take on guests, then they will. They can't take people if they're switching out operators, taking on water, or doing a blow down.
Ward Kimball is my favorite. Love her paint, bell, and beautiful whistle. Those whistles on the Holliday & Kimball are the most beautiful sound. The whistle on the Ripley isn't pulled open enough, the whistle on the Gurley sounds great, and the whistle on the Marsh sounds great when pulled open full. My favorite bell is on the Holliday, and the Holliday is tied with the Marsh as my second favorite. Ward Kimball is my favorite though.
now that i am rewatching this, wow how many things have changed on the DLRR. engines, 3, 4 and 1 were completely rebuilt with new boilers and many improvements, engine 5 got a new whistle that some like because of the low pitch and some hate because it "starves for steam", the cars got safety booths and a new sound system and now they are changing the railroad's track to go along the border between frontier and star-wars. 2017 will be very interesting for the railroad
@CommunityBuildersSB You are correct. 1 and 2 were built in 1955. The rest were aquired from short lines, mainly hauling sugar cane. I think that person is thinking of Disney World.
@CoasterFan2105 the splash mountain welcome party is the zip-a-dee-doo-dah scene before the critter country trestle, the haungry bear restraunt and canoe area are at the beginning of the wilderness section and the splash mountain queue is a closer view of the trestle but you need to ride splash mountain to get the zip-a-dee-doo-dah/queue.
@CoasterFan2105 there are many points besides the station, you can see the train from the hm holiday fastpass(thats still a close view of nos station), splash mountain queue and welcome party scene, critter counrty trestle, the haungry bear restraut, canoe loading area and ride, mark twain, culumbia, tom sawyer island, big thunder ranch barbecue(sticking your hand over a fence), between toontown tunnel and station(pass over the chain) the monorail(you need luck) and autopia
the blowdown is not when they open the clyinder cocks. the actually open the black handeled valve hidden behind the water glass return(on engines 1 and 2, its at diffrent areas on diffrent engines). this valve is located at the bottom of the firebox door at the mudring and so can clean the boiler from sludge. its louder than the clyinder cocks.
I have another video of fiding it but unfortunately, I didn't have enough material to make it into a complete video, so I decided to show the trains at every station in order.
@CoasterFan2105 the splash mountain zip a dee lady is inside the tunnel out of NOS. and hungry bear restraunt is in the bgeginning of the wilderness section of the line(watch katzduncan's "disneyland railroad may 2010" to understand what i mean.(splash mountain queue is the actual trestle
I'm going the Disneyland on Sunday does anyone know if they still do tender rides I always did one as a kid and haven't ridden the train in 3 years so it would be awesome to bring back memories
Well, I happen to work for the Disneyland Railroad. The engineers prefer not to do a tender if they have to switch out. It's not difficult to fill the tender with water when there are people there, the filling happens in the back, the guests sit in the front. It's more of a safety concern, so they just don't do it.
Cylinder cocks are opened when an engine has been idle for a while to get rid up condensation that has built up in the cylinders. Unless you're talking about the Fred Gurley whose's cylinder cocks are always leaking
my favorite is #2, the E.P. RIPLEY. if you check my channel you will find a complete cab ride video of it. i also like her LOUD whistle and cool stack talk
Why not spice it up a bit with different whistles? 1) C.K. Holliday should have Sierra Railway #3's Lima 5 Chime whistle 2) E.P. Ripley should have Baltimore & Ohio 6 Chime whistle 3) Ward Kimball should have ATSF 3751's whistle 4) Fred Gurley should have Shay #4's whistle 5) Ernest Marsh should have SP 4449's new whistle.
I've never been to Disneyland so I have no concept of the railroad's layout, but are there points along the railroad other than the depots, the entrance, and Small World at which Disneyland Railroad railfans can catch video of the train? I only ask because I haven't seen any video of the train except at those points.
