Ive always loved Divine Soul as "the" dark magic class. Like theres so many dark magic wielding, shadowy, charismatic villains in media and Divine Soul is the easiest way to recreate that. Plus I love necromancy based characters who dont have to carry 500000 undead everywhere. Like Divine Soul, or a Scribes Wizard converting everything to necromancy, (or a regular necromancer who focuses on Summon Undead)

I 100% agree. The default "dark and spooky" subclasses that are supposed to be for the necromancer and villain types, just don't do it for me. I haven't checked out the Scribes Wizard for a necromancer tho. I'll have to check it out

@@smilesschemes I have yet to give it a spin due to mostly DMing, but on paper Scribes wizard does look like a fun necromancer! You can have 1 skeletal butler (or a zombie dolled up in plate armour for a discount death knight lmao), focus on Summon Undead, and reflavour the animated tome as a ghost (its even an example given in the class) to cover the animation side. But it really shines with being able to have every spell do either Cold or Necrotic damage. Disintegrate freezing and shattering people is such good flavour, and who doesnt wanna throw necrotic fireballs. I deffo think theres something there!

I'd dip 1 level into Death domain Cleric for armor proficiency and the Reaper ability. Twin Toll the Dead for free whenever the targets are within 5ft of each other.

I would also add that this is one build/subclass where you want to seriously consider Distant Spell. Being able to cast touch spells at 30 feet for the flat cost of one sorcery point... hits very different when you get access to Inflict Wounds (it is a *while* before you get better single target "heck this guy in particular" damage than an upcast Inflict Wounds) and Revivify. It might not come up in every combat encounter, but at some point your squishy sorcerer AC will welcome the opportunity to get in a Revivify from behind partial cover more than half your movement speed away. I would absolutely describe this as little bone constructs flying out to deliver the spell and then crumbling into dust.

Divine soul sorcerer but take the reborn "race" flavored as a skeleton and it makes a fantastic "lich" build. character

You can use True Pholimorf in your Finger of Death zombie to get other creatures that are more usefull that the zombie, only CR 1/2 but they still obey your commands. 🐢

@@smilesschemes you need to be lvl 17 to do it so it has to be good 😅, it is better to do the true poli gold Dragon combo, or the simulacrum+wish combo (cast simulacrum at lvl 7 on youself and use the wish spell from your duplicate to create a lot of gold)

If you pick Fallen Aasimar, that will play more into the theme of being related to a god of death and necromancy. And if you grab the metamagic adept feat, you get 2 more sorcery points and 2 metamagic options. I could be wrong about that.

While you can use Divine Soul you're far better off doing this as a cleric or wizard. Cleric would give you enough spell preps to actually have support spells while the wizard has the School of Necromancy subclass for actually useful minions.
