The DIY Big Buoy Dive Flag 

Hi, for the state of Victoria (Australia) your statement is not entirely correct, when diving from a boat with the correct size alpha flag it is correct that you do not NEED the alpha flag on the buoy, however if you are not then you do need an alpha flag on your buoy that is at least 300mm x 200mm.I do both, correct size alpha flag on the boat (if diving from the boat) & on my buoy, it still wont stop boats doing the wrong thing & coming too closeAll divers would need to consult their state laws to ensure they are acting within their local requirements.For reference, I am referring to page 12 of the document below. transportsafety.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/36684/Guide-to-Vessel-Operating-and-Zoning-Rules-VOZR-December-2015-Version-No-13.pdfThanks for your inputRegards Dean

If that's the law in Australia, then your lawmakers need to get an education. The Alpha flag means -- by international law -- "vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver." It does NOT mean "diver down." (It is flown by vessels supporting divers because such a vessel is restricted in its ability to maneuver due to its status as a dive tender.)

Hi, I don't write the laws or say they are correct, frankly I would prefer 1 standard everywhere in our global village, we can't even get the same standard laws through each of our states :( If the world was easy where would the fun be....

MDTV3 I hear what you're saying. It makes me crazy sometimes how our 50 states differ from each other in many ways, while supposedly being "united" states. (California and Texas are pretty close geographically, but worlds apart socially, for example.)
