With everyone saying “The Doctor can’t be asexual because …” it got me wondering, maybe different incarnations have variable sexualities, just like the variety of other attributes from Doctor to Doctor. Additionally, the Doctor CAN be just about ANYthing, so why try to put them into one box or the other. I know I don’t fit neatly into any little boxes, myself.

As an ace, I don’t think the doctor not noticing if women are attractive counts. I don’t want to kiss or sex up people but I do know when women and men are really good looking to me and when I want to hang out with a bigger percentage of a certain gender to the other. You know when people are flirting, you know when you love people, you just don’t want to jump into bed with them. The doctor to me flips from being asexual to straight depending on the writers, but either way he knows he doesn’t wanna bonk all attractive people he meets 😅 The most relatable thing I could see was the doctor grabbing all the cake lol

As a bisexual, I’m wondering how the rate in which a person wants sex is apart of the lgbtq community. Asexuality has nothing to do with who ur attracted to it just means u do not or rarely get horny. That’s not gay. It’s sex drive.
@samrose3476

I would say that being a part of the LGBTQ community is being something in a romantic or sexual way or gender wise that society has been against for basically ever. You know, if you're not straight, cis and lack the want to be intimate with people, then you're part of the community because you are not privileged for the brain structures you have been born with. Sorry if I'm not explaining it correctly, I have a bad brain day.

Sex drive and attraction are totally different. Asexuality means near to no sexual attraction, regardless of the person's libito/sex drive. I'm aroace myself, but I also have a high libito. As much as it sounds like it goes against society's culture, we exist.

@@foilenjoyer8667 that’s so untrue my friend. Asexuality just means one is not *sexually attracted to anyone*, it has nothing to do with whether one has sex or not. And it’s pretty clear that while The Doctor is cool with and maybe even enjoys sex in a few of their regenerations, they generally don’t think about it unless someone else brings it up first. Let’s talk about 11 especially, as he has the most interaction with River. They definitely have sex, but 11 never seeks it out-he just goes along with it. On top of that, there’s a whole spectrum of Asexuality with different levels of comfort and interest in sex. Every single one of us is different.

I've always wanted to extend the original video (featuring Matt's Doctor) to include the old show. There's literally dozens and dozens of examples of the Doctor's Ace-ness throughout the 26 years, only the most prominent being his confusion over how Romana can charm people with her looks (K9 tells him "she is female" and the Doctor is just like WUT?) and his complementing another lady with "You're very beautiful, probably."

@natsmith303

The Doctor in the Classic series was pretty much written as ace without ever putting it into words. The closest we ever got to confirmation was, "Well you're a very beautiful woman, probably." In fact, the very first companion was the Doctor's granddaughter specifically to avoid any thoughts that an old man abd a teenager traveling alone together may bring up. And a long-standing producer famously said, "There is no hanky-panky in the TARDIS." Then the Eighth Doctor had a handful of kisses in the TV movie, and fans at the time freaked out. Into the revival, there was a romantic air to the character, especially the Tenth Doctor with companion Rose. It's to this day something Classic series fans struggle with when watching his seasons. I'm glad that, from Eleven onwards, they've pretty well steered back into the general ace vibe. Both because it's great for asexual people to have that representation (even if it's not explicit), and because it makes the Doctor stand out against a lot of other protagonists. They're just having a good time with their friends. EDIT: I wish I had better communicated that asexuality and aromanticism are two different things. For example, Eleven has a whole wife, but even her presence never makes me read him as a sexual being.

@@foilenjoyer8667 The Doctor's asexuality was played for comedy, that's true. But being sexually active doesn't mean someone isn't asexual. Asexuality is about attraction, not action. I believe you're thinking of celibacy, which is different.

the first time I saw River Song I kind of hated her because of all the flirting. I didn't realise I was projecting so hard onto 11th, because I didn't know there was a word for my way of being (I didn't even realise my experience was very different from most of the population). Me: he doesn't want hanky panky, woman, please behave yourself. Even though it makes sense that the Doctor is bi/pan/genderfluid in canon, I think it's quite interesting that a huge part of the fandom and the actors that have played the Doctor (Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Colin Baker, David Tennant and Matt Smith) have stated that the Doctor is near the concept of asexuality/aromanticism

Just a disclaimer to help with confusion as to why two scenes have a similar premise (the doctor saying he's gandalf, and the scene in amy's bedroom where they do the same sort of thing), the scene in which The Doctor says he's like Space Gandalf is a deleted scene of series 5 so you won't see it when you watch the show in full, but the full bloopers, outtakes and deleted scenes can always be found somewhere on RU-vid from others digging them up to publish

Yeah, several Doctor gens have been confirmed asexual too (you can look them up, but in 11's case, Smith confirmed in 2011 to Digital Spy.) Shame the showrunner was aphobic, there was good stuff and I enjoyed 11, but so much cringe and SA that it's difficult for me to rewatch.

Note: Lack of representation does not always equate unwillingness for representation. Sometimes they just didn't think of it - which is an issue in itself, lack of awareness, but not necessarily an implication of hostility or phobia. The Doctor being asexual seems like one of those things the writers just didn't think about.

He's commented on the Doctor as well, and if I recall, it was said that they played on 11 being asexual as a joke (like the SA was supposed to be funnier, because he's simultaneously perceived as asexual) etc. Just a few, there's tons out there, should be easy to find. /gen
