I have used them for the past 3 years. They are great for rays and any moderate to large fish. When using them there is less chance of gut hooking the fish. My dangle. Has a piece of hard foam secured to the dangle. That helps when binding you bait on the dangles. If you want to see how they work watch ASFN. On RU-vid. The guys in South Africa use them a lot.
hi ,this dongle rig sounds like a good idea....i used something simular for crab (hard)when after bigger wrasse (not clipped down)but the loop of high breaking strain braid,is a problem solver for distance casting .....going to try making a few .....thanks....
Very good rig that I have yet to try, mainly because I have only just started fishing the dark side. Ware do I start, again it's a rig developed from carp fishing. The hair rig is well known but the science comes into it as the hook is attached via a loop, allowing the hook to turn and flip to catch in the lip of the fish. Ideally the baits would be around the size of your thumb to allow the fish to suck in the bait and when it blows it out,( when fish feed they always suck and blow the bait) as the bait it ejected from the mouth, the hook turnes on the loop and catches the fish!! Very good rig that I will deffently be trying! And iam 100% sure that nothing will be deeply hooked! Oh and great vid full of big words lol, hope u have a good session
Interesting about the perfection loop. I come from a carp fishing background and the hair rig used for carp goes the other way, with a normal knot and sometimes a piece of silicon over the knot and an eye swept forward to ensure the hook only pulls in one direction. The test is if u pull your baited hook over the palm of your hand the hook point should dig in. With a flexible knot and allowing the hook to rotate 360 degrees, I think were is a chance it will turn voer and not prick the fish. I know sea fish might be more aggressive biters but would be interested on people's thoughts,
But people use the perfection Knot on chod rigs, and have done for years. Also the 360 rig is or has the same type of movement, and both work very well..
Very true, but I think they are more often combined with a popped up bait. Interesting how carp tactics are starting to feed thru to sea angling. Suppose it’s inevitable as the carp guys are real innovators in terms of rigs.
Iv tried them once, hook ups of doggies wasn't great fished it alongside a standard pulley rig had two fish on the pulley rig and two missed hook ups on the dongel. Maybe i need to perfect it. My preference is just not to over complicate something thats already has worked for 30years.
So could you have another perfection knot and hook at the end of the dongle instead of a loop this would give you 2 hooks and still have the advantages of the dongle, you could always squash the barb down on bottom hook in case it gets deeply hooked
I haven’t to be honest and I’m not sure I will …being that I mostly hook fish on the bottom hook of a pennel rig, I think it would still work though if the fish is big enough to engulf whole bait and turn away to set circle hook but for smaller fish I’m not so sure …however if they are the new thing and they work forget what I said and I will get on em ….where’s my crabs 🦀 😂
Used them on 1 session only had dogfish as fishing is hit and miss atm but 9 times out of 10 always been in the scissors so thumbs up if you fish for catch and release 👍
What is this sorcery? Looks just like a 1 hook pulley rig, not sure I understand the point of that braid thingy on the hook. Can't you just put the hook on the imp?
Don’t like the rig personally, think the bait is too far away from the hook, especially for smuts they come in and smash the bait so quick they will miss it, like the perception of it for the bigger fish ie skate but not smuts
