@@dlppl3407 I find him tedious to listen to, mostly because he’s perpetually sighing, and it’s my impression that he himself finds the questioning tedious. He does seem earnestly to try to answer seriously, but I don’t consider these questions worth it.

Yet Manzarek always answers instantly without stumbling over his words, with a large vocabulary and with intricate thought. Jim takes forever to say some even the simplest of things and sometimes it's rather pretentious. "The atmosphere of a dying arcade" doesn't really explain much. I love Jim, but Ray was far more eloquent and sensical.

@jeffryphillipsburns
@jeffryphillipsburns 5 месяцев назад
@@TheJayson8899 Presumably Morrison wants to be poetic. I wouldn’t call that pretentious; it’s just a different approach. I’d prefer he didn’t try to compose his poetry off the cuff, though. Manzarek is fluent, but necessarily a bit facile and glib. I’d rather listen to the Beatles interviewed in the early days. They’d take every banal, inane question as a set-up for a joke.
@jeffryphillipsburns
@jeffryphillipsburns 5 месяцев назад
@@humanentity2214 No, it doesn’t; it says but one thing. It’s true that Manzarek wasn’t any smarter than Morrison, but he did make a more efficient spokesman, though lacking the Morrison laconic mystique.

Love how Jim goes on talking about the first place they played. He gives the names of everyone there and tells the sad story of the owner who was dying of cancer. It's sort of funny how the interviewer seems to be almost desperate to ask someone else something because him takes forever to answer any questions with his long pauses interrupted by deep breaths that he takes. On another note, I find it quite remarkable how Jim bother to memories the name of everyone who worked at that establishment. He seemed to be fascinated by people.

I've got the feeling that the interviewers think Morrison was stoned, he doesn't get to speak very much, but that's the way he always spoke. (He could be stoned, but that doesn't mean you can't be coherent) I love to listen to his interviews thru the years, he's got a lot of insight in the world around him, and seemed wise beyond his years.

@poorthello.....I was in the locker room with the Doors for the duration of the interview. Ray used the expletive early in the session and again very clearly and definitely near the end of the interview when asked what he wanted to say to the group's fans. Jim was nowhere near the microphone at that point and was leaning against a bank of lockers far behind the other members of the group. Jim Morrison was never vulgar during the interview or when the band members were doing promos for us.

My roommate in 1967 was Richard Roman, whom I had gone to school with since kindergarten. He asked if I was going to the concert that evening for our freshman class. I said probably; the group had a hit this summer, Light my Fire, that I liked. The upper class was pissed cause only us freshmen got to go. A few months later we had a “sock hop” at the ballroom; the live band was Tommy James and the Shondells. Another group that had a number 1 hit that performed in the gym was the Buckinghams, followed by Jay and the Americans. Carlos Mentoya and his flamenco guitar performed, rounded out by a string quartet. Rod Sterling from Rochester stoped by for a presentation shortly before his death. I feel like Forest Gump remembering this incredible year. After my first year I lost my student deferment and received a draft notice. My abject fear was being drafted, carrying a 100 pound nap sack, M16 and drowning in the Mekong Delta, so I enlisted in the Air Force, spent 18 month is in Okinawa, two months in Da Nang, and 20 months in Southern Italy. We go through life not seeing the forest for the trees. Ashley Seymour

I have this opinion. We now evaluate everyone (interviewers, interviewees, type of questions and answers, etc.) on the basis of everything we already know. But at that precise moment there were only four boys almost unknown to the general public, who were asked "elementary" questions (which today sound boring) because they were deemed necessary to make them known to the public of Lazar and Flesser. Knowing Jim Morrison, it is obvious that already at that moment he did not have to accept these kinds of interlocutors (or questions) brilliant or stimulating. And his intellectual superiority with respect to the kind of questions is evident, as well as his intelligence and cunning in "directing" the interview where he wants. They were still unaware of the great change that the general public (the mass) would mean in their lives and careers (in a sense by decreeing the end of their instinctive creativity or by making it more difficult and painful). And then, Jim Morrison's personality emerges strongly, compared to the indefinite ones of Robbie and John (who never know what to answer and often pass the word to him, ask for his help) and that of Ray, more concrete and focused on musical discourse, but very "impersonal". Already at this point the key words of his entire life are pronounced in a few minutes: "death", "unconscious", "fun", "sensual", "strangeness", "sleep", "fuck!". Although he uses them almost by chance, today we know instead that he used them with intention, scattering them in the speech like the crumbs of the tale of Tom Thumb, to find his way home. That was his personal way of blazing a path towards him, both knowingly and unknowingly. And lastly he leaves us his boredom for all that is "due" and "agreed" and his irrepressible irony, certainly a sign of great maturity in that context in which others appear intimidated and a little empty. A great speaker, a great psychologist, a great sociologist, a great poet. We miss you, Jim.

Firstname Lastname Nope, sweetie ... Jim .. pretty much always sounded .. just like that ... and when it came to interviews ... could be extremely difficult ... and deliberately "thought provoking" ... he was incapable of small talk ... SO .. very much, always the smartest .. and well read person in the room. Any room. He was such a powerful influence at the time. Time magazine referred to him ... literally ... as a "god" ... but Jim was smart... he cultivated that as well. I watched him on the Ed Sullivan show ... age five ... and he scared the shit out of me. Got the first album when I was six and ran screaming from my darkened bedroom. True Story. I'll never forget the smarmy, summer, July afternoon when I heard over the radio that he died .. I was 10 ... or 11 ... I cried all over my beach towel and wondered what was so sad about a performer that Is always been so afraid of ... but now I know that it was the "vaccuum" left over after he left. The world felt the impact. The last of the summer flowers were fading. Forever. There will be another one like Jim. There can't be. Jim exhausted the potential for even a similar. Cold, grinding... grizzly bear jaws hot on your heels, baby. and I cry. 😎

The interviewers are terrible. They sound like attorneys questioning someone on the stand.

Don't think Ive ever heard so many infuriating nonsensical questions in an interview before. If anyone needs some LSD its those interviewers.
