A backdoor man, means when a husband walks out the front door, he sneaks in the back door. Old blues singers were constantly in trouble for "sleeping" with married women.
Back Door Man was an old Willie Dixon song, also recorded by Howlin’ Wolf. When the Rolling Stones were invited to make their first appearance on US tv, they said they’d only do it if Howlin’ Wolf also appeared. Having no idea who or what a Howlin’ Wolf was, the tv bosses agreed. It’s on RU-vid.
I get the night/day reference. I've always felt that the Doors were sort of nocturnal creatures in my mind. When I hear their music, I imagine myself driving around Los Angeles late at night , windows down, playing Doors tunes. Good memories!
Greeting from Michigan, love your channel and the way you interpret and break down a song.72 years old so I really appreciate young people getting into the music from the past. Look forward to your input.
Little girl means young woman over 18 who isn’t hitched. That was the meaning then… backdoor man means an indiv who has a relation w/ a woman and slips out the back door w/o getting hitched or caught…. Chicken is conquest of many women.
If you want a great doors live performance checkout “When the Music’s Over” live at the bowl ‘68. Possibly one of Jim’s best live performances ever recorded. He holds the audience in the palm of his hand.
One of my favourite things from The Doors live is they play alabama song and Backdoor man back to back like it's a one song. Nothing beats the transition between half part of alama song and backdoor man intro with Jim Morrison's scream.
When a woman has a guy on the side, she lets him in the back door as her husband leaves for work by the front door. I think there could be another meaning, but I'll leave that to others to explain.
The doors released four official live albums where Jim was in top form. Absolutely Live and Alive She Cried are great concerts that capture the Lizard King in all his glory. He wasn't always as wasted as he was for the infamous jam with Hendrix in New York. He was particularly sharp when he knew the studio was recording the shows for future release.
I wish there were more live performances of the Doors on You Tube, just like Jimi Hendrix; there's not enough. The show at the Bowl in '68 is great tho.
You have got to listen to the celebration of the lizard from absolutely live I cannot stress it enough my friend you have never heard anything like in your life !
On this record, the bass is doubled by Larry Knechtel (Bread, The Wrecking Crew) on bass guitar. Ray's keyboard bass didn't record well with the technology of the time, so Knechtel was hired to overdub bass parts that doubled the keyboard bass lines. Later albums had bass players like Doug Lubahn (Clear Light), Harvey Brooks (The Electric Flag), Roy Neapolitan (session player), Lonnie Mack and Jerry Scheff (Elvis' bass player). They sometimes found it a challenge to match Ray's bass parts because they were keyboard-based rather than guitar-based. Scheff had trouble with Riders On The Storm because it's a fairly simple arpeggio line on keyboards, but requires a lot of fret work on a bass guitar.
You should listen to exit music by Radiohead next. I absolutely love your videos and your interpretation of songs and the fact that you are open to listening to a complete different genre of music than you are used to. I am so happy to see how fast and big your Chanel is growing, i mean you really deserve it. ❤
You got Jim and the Doors! Your assessment is correct! Somehow through some kind of Musical Alchemy, I don’t understand how they had it but they did, they were about to shine and showcase and support Jim’s Shamanistic Vocals! He would become possessed like he was in a trance. And that’s what Shamans do. They communicate with the Spirit World and heal people through dreams and medicine they make. They are Healers for the village. And part of healing is believing that you will recover from whatever is ailing you. The Shaman would show the way. That’s why Jim’s vocals are so powerful and mystical and live on 50 years later. As well as the Doors music! It’s magical and mysterious. Like a Dark Romance! Jim is like a mysterious stranger that seduces someone for one night and then they dream about him for the rest of their life! Jim seduces the audience and puts a spell on them and they are loyal for life afterwards. Unreal! Hypnotic music that puts one in a Trance! The End is like a death trip only you don’t want it to end with that hypnotic Sitar playing! You listen to it over and over again. Because the Music is your only friend until the end. Until the lights go out! Jim told bold truths. 👏🏻
For official live Doors releases, I gravitate to "Live at the Bowl '68" - unlike the other releases which are compiled from numerous shows often over multiple years, the Hollywood Bowl release is one complete set, and with video.
I was a junior in high school and played guitar in a local band when this album was released in early 1967. The Stones and the Kinks I think we did a decent job covering, but with the Beatles and Doors we had no chance to do the music any justice. Jim Morrison was fantastic as a poet, singer, and performer, but he was out of control. He left the world way too soon.
"In Southern culture, the phrase "back-door man" refers to a man having an affair with a married woman, using the back door as an exit before the husband comes home." Also, the bass and keys are so in sync because the doors are unique in not having a bass guitarist in the band. Manzarek played all the basslines on a bass keyboard and played piano/organ with his right hand. In studio they did at times have a bassist tracking alongside in the studio ie 'touch me' and more. Another thing not well known about the band is that Robbie Krieger wrote a large section of their most famous songs. In fact, a brain-breaking bit of info for ya is that Morrison asked for the others to contribute songs to the band at one point to help with the songwriting load. Jim and Robbie spent a few weeks living at Robbie's house when his parents were away, and from that time was when Robbie wrote Light My Fire .. Dude... The first song he ever wrote became the doors biggest hit, a number one song... Krieger's first song .. Seriously ... ! Love your bang on intuitive and thoughtful reactions. You and #LFRJoJo are the only two who consistently get it right.
For me The Doors and Babymetal are the same type of performer where you need to experience it live to fully vibe with it. Soundboard is just to remind us of their greatness later. And yes I did compare Babymetal with The Doors!
He's gonna 'let' little girls slide. Thank you. We were worried you wouldn't 😆 And yes 'backdoor' didn't mean the same thing. Sodamy wasn't as fashionable as it is today.

Back Door Man is someone who is involved in a relationship with a cheating woman. The Back Door Man sneaks in the back door so the neighbors won't know that there is cheating going on.
You may have trouble finding any good live stuff from them. Unfortunately Jim was either to drunk or stoned to make much sense of anything he was doing. London's Roundhouse performance may be a good start. I've been to his resting place in Paris twice. It's like a top five destination for people visiting Paris btw.
