I can’t imagine anyone not buying such a beautifully constructed and looking set just because the mini figs weren’t alright. Like I get some people just buy for the mini figures but that’s the equivalent of touring your dream house and noticing the walls are not the color you like and then claiming you won’t buy the house because of it
Wait, people actually care about the Minifigures in UCS sets? The sets are usually not even Minifigure scale. My impression was that the UCS line was just for Star Wars fans and collectors - meant for display... I just got the set today and I love it.
Lego star wars fan will literally complain about anything even if Lego explained their decision not to put a fucking exclusive figure in a 350 dollar set not everyone can get
It's a very good looking set. Lego does seem determined to undermine it for some reason. Personally I would have preferred a new MiniFigured scaled set with a full compliment of Clone Troopers and a Jedi we haven't had or a new Jedi Bob.
Yep, sounds about right… glad TBC documented the history of the UCS gunship so that I can look back on this later in life and think about my decision to spend 350$ on 10lbs of plastic
Set is amazing. I will definitely buy it, but mos eisley will come first since it’s older. Regardless of the designers comments, windu and the clone were good choices, they just needed more exclusivity to them instead of generic prints.
To be fair, I have been waiting for this set for over 13 years already since 2008. So can't complain about it. I avoided buying previous models because they were not accurate enough. Just realized when there was a video recommended on RU-vid of people reacting to the Gunship, so didn't know all these dramas. Also, I think that minifigs-scale, the designers might think that there is no way that they can make it accurate enough based on three previous models.
I agree and disagree, there are some really accurate custom, minifig-scale models, but those models don’t have to go through the rigorous testing that LEGO sets have to go through so it would definitely be harder for the LEGO design team.
People are really making a mountain out of a molehill for cheap content. Compared to previous UCS sets, this is on par. Its pretty much what was to be expected. People just wanted a playscale version but it was never really going to be a playscale version. The Cody thing sucks but it's actually good they didnt lock him behind a 350$ paywall.
I completely agree. The model is beautiful, idrc if it’s minifig scale or not personally, and the minifigs themselves don’t bother me at all. I only have an issue with the comments from the design team, doesn’t sit right with me. But if it weren’t for all the crybabies whining about how they aren’t getting a P2 Cody then they would never have had to make those statements
Who cares, you gotta be the most sensitive person to not buy a set because of a comment a designer made. Just buy it, not buying it does more harm, you're literally showing them you aren't interested in prequel sets, sales wise. I have seen other themes recieve more love than star wars recently in regards to minifigs, so I understand the frustration. The Batmobile is an example, but I mean it doesn't really matter, they'll likely release high demand minifigs in the near future, they have the data from the votes and from their recent acquisition of brinklink, so they'll know what we want. In a few years we will be eating good.
I mean, I don't think it's sensitive to not want to spend $350 on something that fell short for some people, and had ignorant comments by its own designer. I personally love the way it looks, but I'm still on the fence about it, and I'm just waiting to see if we get any good sets in 2022. And I'd like to believe that the data from that stuff would help, but they've got plenty of data from the wildly popular 501st battle pack yet haven't released a clone related set since then except for the ucs gunship. I'm not outrageously angry aboht any of this, I'm just somewhat disappointed.
The worst part of all of this is the Gunship is a really good set, it just has all this controversy surrounding it. This should have been easy money for lego, but no they completely ignored us and basically called us stupid. Why even ask what mini figures we want if you aren’t going to give us what we want and then say the mini figures don’t matter after you guys asked
If mandr never commented on this set, there would still be tons of outrage, he was just the mouthpiece sadly. There wouldn't have been as much outrage about the figure selection (it would've just been more of our usual disappointment, but not outrage), but the comments by the designers all but confirmed the sentiment that lego doesn't care as much about the prequels. I myself had felt pretty disenfranchised as a fan of the prequels/clone wars until the 501st battle pack came out, and then immediately felr left out again when that pathetic winter 2021 wave came around, and now I'm just somewhere in the middle.
I wanted it to be based off the clone wars version but with parts that could give it the bubble turrets and enough clones that could actually fly it. From pictures I've seen, it looks unfinished
The 2008 _Star Wars: The Clone Wars_ gunship has doors that close completely, while the 2013 gunship has those side turrets, but its doors only close partly. I hope this gunship has the side turrets from 2013 and the fully closable doors from 2008.
Really interesting video, I think you also forgot to document that many Lego Star Wars fans expected this set to be revealed at LegoCon, well, um, lets say, they did took it well lol. But yeah, these fans ask for the gunship, and they complain about it, like why, and your fans are upset that the designers made a statements about the choices the fans make, I mean Lego is a business, sure they have fans, but like, do people expect Jedi Bob, no and I highly dough the public knows who he is, let alone Star Wars fans in general.
Honestly it took too long to release well not really but still, I feel like the minifigures was one of the main reasons why it just flopped. I don't care what they say but it should've atleast had a pilot. Maybe thats the reason but the second main reason could be the sheer huge size and price of it. I like it as a display piece and think it looks great but the characters are a whole nother story
Damn pucci, didn’t know you were a fan of Star Wars, just make sure that when you reset the universe to please not reset Star Wars like maybe take away the sequels but keep the rest.
@@thepriestpucci4988 ight thanks oh and btw if you see a blond kid who wears a Cubs uniform dont kill him he will aid you in the resurrection of Lord DIO.
@@donak2773 well... Lego retains their value extremely well. You're almost always better buying a UCS set at full retail rather than wait after it retires and spend double or even triple the amount.
This community is nuts, whiny and they behave like lego owes them something "fans want a minifig scale gunship with UCS level detail" are you dense? a) there are dozens by third party designs already in all variations, were you can buy instructions for 20 dollars. They just email you an pdf. No stock, packaging, printing, producing pieces, paying the designers not by comission but a wage b) UCS detail comes with UCS scale, its a different kind of product than minifig scale playsets (minifigs themselves are horrible to scale to when you look at real people.) Fans dont fucking get how products are made, and they are entitled af. When I was 7 I wondered why lego just does not release the set I dreamt of, but I eventually got why. some people apparantly didnt.
I get that people wanted better figures, but to be all butt hurt and say it is unforgivable is a bit ridiculous. The build is the whole point of the set. I'd rather have a p2 Cody in a smaller affordable set that anyone can get than in the gunship. The only thing that I think would have been better, is for there to be at least a pilot or two. The set is a 9/10 build wise and should be appreciated as such.
Man the fact that people care more about minifigs than a huge awesome gunship really baffles me....I could give 2 shits about minifigs.....all my minifigs go into this huge Mason jar I have....but I'm a adult and not a kid I also build to display....if you're 15 years old and crying about minifiga grow up
If they gave us no minifings people would cry, if they gave us 2 minifigs people would cry.....people will cry no matter what.....especially old kids that play with minifigs...grow up!
I’m not disappointed in the set I got it and it looks amazing the figure selection is terrible but the set looks pretty nice but is it worth 350 dollars no not at all.
Sometimes Lego star wars fans are too much of a snowflake. Gunship is Gunship. Minifigs are bad but the build is good. UCS shouldn't be about the figs but the build. That's why I bought it, not because of the figs but because of the build.
I literally just finished building it and honestly I love it. For the most part it’s really accurate and really well proportioned. On the other hand. The minifigures are a huge missed opportunity. Still if people want them to make more prequel ucs sets people have to buy it. They kinda trapped us like that. LEGO already knows that $350 is more than most people can spend. We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.
It’s all up to opinions on this set. Some people are laidback and some are absolute Cookie Monsters! It’s all good after all we all love Star Wars! I think….
Phase 2 cody is something we need and jedi bob is a fan favorite, pretty sure the one whose dumb and annoying if you hate something just because it's popular
@@casualarson698 lego sw fans complain abt everything, just like they complained abt gunship figs which are not bad themselves just kinda bad selection but still accurate to AOTC.
I feel like from the vote, to the box, to the mini figs, the whole set was botched. The developers comments certainly didn’t help matters either. I’m not a fan of putting Cody in this set or Jedi Bob. I feel they got that decision right but missed the mark on putting in a pilot. Cody deserves to be in another set (grievous ship anyone) and Jedi Bob should be a poly bag promo. And don’t even get me started on the Republic and Imperial emblem mishap. I’m waiting till the box is fixed.
I agree. I wonder if the pressure of getting the set out ASAP was weighing on the team and they half-assed some of it to get it out and make people complaining about how long it’s taking happy.
@@TheBrickCouncil I think you're right. When things are rushed that's when there are simple mistakes made. The box, the mini figs. The developers can say what they want but in the few UCS sets I have the mini figs are kinda nice.
I don't care if it's not minifgure scale, but the fact that they ignored the fan vote just upsets me. I know that the minifigures aren't the most important part of the set, but I was really looking forward to at least having a clone pilot and jedi bob. The build is still great but it doesn't forgive what the designers said, what they did was a shitty thing to do and makes me not want to get the set.
