It has no additional gameplay value for an FPS game with jungle / savannah setting but what a terrible immersion would it be if he couldn't [...]" SKULL & BONES devs: "Swimming mechanic? What for? The pirate protagonist is supposed to walk around the hub and talk to (crafting) supplies and cosmetics merchants. Also: the engine's not designed for physical interaction with water."

Many big companies like Ubisoft, Rocksteady etc no longer have the people that made them great. Take it from me as a fellow game dev, the people today that get hired by these companies are nowhere near that level. And ubisoft also prioritised hiring based on identity more than talent. And this is the result of that.

In Black Flag your character senses when the depth of water is changing and reacts accordingly, such great attention to detail. Skull and Bones looks like an early PS2 game in comparison.

There's something that is often forgotten or never mentioned. Games are not made by CEOs or shareholders, they're made by game developers. When you fire, lay off, or lose the developers, all the knowledge and experience is gone with them. A game studio can have the same name, but if it doesn't have the same game developers, it's not the same game studio anymore.

The Star Wars water looks the best. You can actually see a ripple effect and the water looks like actual fluid. All the others look like trash as far as water goes. They’re much better off developing realistic looking water than reverting back to 2008 water.

Sadly physics has been neglected in modern games. They prefer to waste computing resources in ray tracing and other things that barely improves visuals
