Western animation isn't dying. MAJOR HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS are dying. The small and independent studios around the world are doing fine, especially the ones posting their shows online for free. Eventually they'll become the new major ones, have their golden years, and then die off and be replaced too.

Sometimes it can be a positive idea for studios to make sequels because if they make a movie with characters who were shown doing some pretty interesting things, it can be true that an amount of the public would want to see the franchise be continued by the studio producing any new story for those characters so that the fans wouldn't be stuck getting more and more frustrated every day watching the same film over and over again just to see those characters that they like a lot do something when those fans understand that there is the potential for those popular characters to be shown going on some new entertaining adventure. Not just 1.

Ehhh, this isn't the only dark age of Western Animation. There was one back in the 1950s-1970s in which there were a lot of cheaply produced slop cartoons that aired on TV. For every good show there were like 10 cash grabs. Heck, The Osmonds & Jackson 5ive got cartoons during that era. THAT'S how much they were willing to sell out during that era. Every era has its good & bad cartoons. The 90s had crap like Hammerman, The Wacky World of Tex Avery & ProStars, the 2000s had a slew of cheap Adobe Flash cartoons, the 80s had Little Clowns of Happytown, etc.

Illumination is actually the smartest animation company in the US, not because they make good movies, but because they know how to make cheap, bad movies that sell well to the general public. Also, instead of premiering their movies on streaming services because of the cough-cough, they delay it by one or several years. They hardly even use streaming services. The Mario Movie was good, but only because it had to be good. It's also an original idea that's pretty much never been done before (except all the way back in 1993).

But "Finding Nemo" and "Tangled" are GOOD movies, actually. Citing them as heralding the downfall of hand-drawn animation only serves to convince me that hand-drawn masterpieces like "Lilo and Stitch" AND sweet, smart CGI fantasy romcoms like "Tangled" deserve places in the animation landscape. But thank you for highlighting the injustice behind pushing accomplished voice actors aside in favor of big-name stars. The travesty of sidelining Janet Waldo in favor of Tiffany in "The Jetsons Movie" should have been a wake-up call; instead, the industry has doubled down in favor of celebs. Justice for Rob Paulson, Maurice LaMarche, and Billy West!
@Scape-real
@Scape-real 19 дней назад
I didn't say that Tangled or Finding Nemo are bad movies. There are tons of Fantastic CGI films. What I am pointing out is that the art of hand drawn animation is a lost art. But I personally really like the combination of CGI and hand drawn, such as the spider-verse movies.

Weird that despite the decline of western cinema, most videogame adaptations seem to be improving instead of getting worse. Mario was a decent movie that i liked watching with my sister and the two Sonic movies are also a great return to form from the G.O.A.T. Jim Carrey 🐐 Ofc we still get a bad videogame movie in that time period, which is FNAF. I'm a big fan of old school horror movies like Childs Play and Nightmare on Elm Street, so it disappointed me that one of the few horror movies nowadays wans't scary at all.

Dreamwork is still making good movies like Puss in Boots 2 and the Bad guys. Also, their next movie; the Wild robot, looks really fun! The cute robot is, to me, a fusion of Wall-e and Bastion from Overwatch. Like Wall-e, he is curious and kind. Like Bastion, he doesn't talk and is friend with animals. I like him 🙂I'm excited to see the movie! I didn't check what new movies Pixar wants to make. I only know that Inside out 2 is almost here.

Disney has been hit with the absolute worst to be honest. They havent had a good movie in years and worst of all have flops and endless controversies surrounding politics and simply not caring about traditonal films. Illumination's films are mid but are far from Disneys current horrific quality and managed to stand their ground. Dreamworks is kinda being hit with major bad films but for the most part they arent flopping. Warner Bros however is as scandalous as you think.

animator here. cgi isnt the problem . its the people leading the creative teams that are. theres a lot of things i could breakdown that ive noticed and people whove worked longer in the industry than me have noticed. but the big ones always seem to be the people running studios dont trust audiences to be able to understand nuanced storytelling hoping to make profit off of ips that may have succeeded originally but might be classed as a tax right off now people running the studios over trusting market "excerpters " instead of asking creatives opinions a project crossing between hands too many times and going through too many changes a tight budget and deadline resulting in a product being pushed to theatres that wasnt ready (this is more to do with the complexity of how studios and theatres work together to make money for each other . and streaming worsened it a fair bit ) or the scrapping of nearly the whole project and rushing to complete because something went wrong during production and in the case of the live action remakes the original intent jungle book and lion kin in particular was to show it off as a tech demo for investors and the amount of input from creatives didnt really matter to the producers. its very complex but these are some of the issues at a base level i hear and see the most . and this is something that happened with 2d as well but the current culture demands more control be taken from creatives in hopes to have mass appeal and it ultimately loses its voice in the process. cgi is not a faceless medium it takes a lot of work to make a cgi film and a lot of reasons someone might want to use it over other forms of animation . theres even still a lot of trinational animators employed within cgi studios to help people understand acting in animation better. the people running these studios are no longer people with the heart of film making in mind. the ones at the very top are people who know how to run businesses and not much else. without the right person who can balance and understand both leading theres no one to lead in a way that balances the profit needs with the needs of creatives. if youd like resources on how much harder things have gotten for cgi animators and why theres more strikes on the horizon , feel free to let me know and ill list some of the channel names of people who can go in-depth on the topic. it actually might be worth a video of its own ngl. western animation isnt dying , but we need an overhaul on how its produced and how money is made for productions because ultimately streaming has really made things a big mess . one most creatives new would only bring a temporary boost in work because we sensed it wouldnt be profitable for companies . and it isnt. the rest of your video is pretty solid btw so i hope this didnt come off like i was just going after this point. i just think this section of your video felt like it was blaming a type of animation instead of seeing the issues lying underneath .
