I appreciate you sharing this raw glimpse of the more dark and difficult experiences. For people like me who are in the initial stages of researching the liveaboard life, it's important to contrast the moments that sparkle with the moments that stink in order to make an informed decision. I'm also sorry you were feeling so low while solo, but I've seen enough episodes three years on to know that you weathered the storm and found sunnier days on the other side. 🖤

Don't be discouraged ! Life is full of setbacks. Life goes on...there's a ton of us out here who would trade places with you in a heartbeat.Be strong...You're still young and have plenty of "sunny days" ahead. What are your alternatives ? Sell the boat and start looking for a friggin job? If you're underfunded park the boat for 6 months during hurricane season and work for a top up.Just sayin. Do not give up!

Episode 69 came up first for some reason so I had to go back and check out what you were referring to in the intro of 69. Dang man, your vids are so real and true to life. I appreciate that. I have learned so much more from your vids. I can't imagine why some folks would criticize your vids or your channel but I agree, those folks can move along. Thanks Cap. Recently became a Patron too mainly because you provide so much info that I almost felt guilty watching for free!

Powerboats going out of their way to throw wakes at sailboats. Yup sounds like the Chesapeake. That's why the best sailing is during the late fall or early spring when it's too cold for the motorboaters. It helps when fuel prices are high too.

Have you ever thought about setting your dinghy up so that you can tie it alongside . you set up ropes forward and aft then use the dinghy motor to power you. It will spin one way when you start but after your yacht starts moving forward you will gain steering and control. Is much easier with two people, but sometimes you just need to be a little creative. it could have saved you a expensive tow. anyhow keep your head up high and just keep going, I enjoy seeing your vids ...CHEERS From an Aussie in Norway.

... not a bad idea ... but, one "Major" issue .... "rope"" ... there is no such thing as a "rope" on a boat/ship ... once you attach a length of "rope" to a boat ... it's called a "LINE" ... A "rope" is something you use on "the hard" ... Please "You-Tuber's", learn the proper nautical terms ... (signed) on the water +63 yrs "Water Rat" ... Powerboats/Sailboats/ Paddled-rowed Watercraft ... any vessels floating on the water I'll give it a try ... just as long as I'm floating and not bailing too much ....

I watched a video from these guys yesterday ' Sailing Project Atticus'. Series3 Episode 45. If you start that video at 30 seconds, they explain they also ran out out money in Mexico and did freelance boat repairs for a living for a year. So they were still living the boat life but getting a financial footing. I've watched a lot of your videos and you are a very skilled man, you'll get a ton of freelance work and still live the dream. Then sail off again. Maybe you can even get in touch with them and ask them how they did it? Time to get practical dude, no more feeling sorry for yourself...fall down 7 times stand up 8. You're a good man. You can do it. All the best. Nige from England.

I feel like Project Atticus has a trust fun or something of the sort. Not that thats bad but after refitting a boat for three years I would think they would of had enough money to make it past the first port after leaving the USA. Something doesn't make sense with the storyline. They are good people but I don't know about the cash flow.

feeling your pain bud. It's my dream to somehow buy a boat and sail around the world solo. This video is a good reminder of some of the very real situations i will have to deal with, yet I'm still determined. Keep reminding yourself of all the ups of the cruising lifestyle and that the downs are only temporary, as is heartache. I truly hope all you need is a little time to reset and clear your head, and that you'll continue to sail and make videos, as this aspiring sailor really loves them and finds them extremely informative and inspiring. Sending best wishes and good vibes from Edmonton, Canada.

Encounters such as this is yet another reason I may go with an older full keel with attached rudder. It is nearly impossible to snag anything with the prop. Yeah, I know, it's slow and terrible at crowded marina slalom courses. And there's no damn room on board. I'll trade that to avoid this or having your rudder snapped off.

Welcome to my world. Power boats for the most part in the Chesapeake are a-holes. There are a few courteous ones. Few and far between. You sailed right through my cruising ground, paste Hart Miller Island and Pooles Island. Power boats rock me all day and it doesn't matter where you are. They find you.

That's Rock Hall/ Graditude ... the "Haven" at Graditude is a real nice anchorage w/ lots of Marine services and docks ... the restaurants are a short walk or bicycle ride a way, (most of the marinas have "loaner" bicycles) to Rock Hall Harbor ... again lots of docks and services... and there is a small, very, very well stocked supermarket (Bayshore Market) in town too ... Delaware Bay is not easy on a powerboat let alone a sailboat. And Sharks do come up the Delaware bay. Years ago a Hammer head was caught north of Delaware City. I would take a dip in the lower Chesapeake on a hot day. Never on the Delaware bay.

How far to safer anchorage? A marina/haul out? Even a calm shore line, cove or anyplace better than where you are at.Get what sleep/rest you can, shut the stress out till daylight. Then reconsider options. Search charts for calmest safe water. Verify tides then sail it or side tie dingy and make 2 1/2-4 knots with tide if possible. Hang in there skippy, your ass is tougher than that!

Hey you guys we are loving your adventures! We live in northern Michigan and intend to follow you in a couple of years, just bought our boat! Anyway we just finished episode 50, watching all of them from video 1. It dawned on me that during your idyllic stay in Georgetown (we’re looking forward to that experience) you didn’t show any video of you taking Lady K out for a day sail or a long weekend sail. Did you ever do that or is it the kind of place you’re just on the hook or a mooring ball the entire time? Except of course the race and regatta you showed. Not that being anchored is a bad thing, the fun times you shared look amazing! Just wondering about random sailing days or extended side trips. Keep it up, we love it! And happy sailing.

Tim sorry for your troubles. I want to learn from them. How thick is the crab pot wire ? If you had had a cable cutter and better weather conditions do you think you could have freed yourself from it ? Any other tools you can think of that would have helped you in this situation ? I really like you instructional and opinion videos. I hope to make the trip up the iCW to Canada very soon in a mono hull.

It cost you money, but don't forget the cost the fisherman has paid too. When my gear gets run over it costs me hundreds of dollars plus the lost revenue from the traps. Boat traffic costs me thousands every year.

Holy crap! ANOTHER crab pot? Of all the horrible luck. Man. I'm thinking that if I ever go cruising I am staying the hell OUT of the Chesapeake. Well if you want a pick me up, go watch watch Barry Pirrin's channel (Adventures of an old Sea Dog.) He sails entirely Solo, on an older all steel monohull. Watch his 5 part series about sailing across the Pacific alone. He had all sorts of problems, including mast problems and massive bottom fouling of his boat that ended up turning his 30 day sail onto a 71 day odyssey. At one point he was actually listed as "Missing at Sea"! Here's part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i26fiHw9oOw.html The point is: Don't let it get you down. You can overcome this. Yes, you didn't intend to do it alone. However you CAN do it alone. And perhaps someday you will find the right person to do it with.

My idea: innovate your way out of this problem. Instead of saying I can't get in the water and I can't cut it with wire cutters stop feeling sorry for yourself and start thinking how can you can do a workaround. Just because you can't afford a diver doesn't mean someone out there might not dive to help you out and know how to do it safely. Just because you say you can't cut it with a wire cutters doesn't mean there isn't some other creative way that could be figured out through online collaboration to cut that wire. Sitting around in the middle of the night fantasizing that if you just had a partner all this wouldn't be happening is a dead end. Think how much stronger of a person you will be when you solve this problem.
