Dr. Phil hosts a debate on same sex marriage. Watch as the panel of experts discuss their points of view on why they think same sex marriage is wrong or right. TUNE IN DECEMBER 19th FOR PART 2 OF THE DEBATE!!
0:57 "It's not discrimination to treat different things differently" Discrimination: treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit. the dictionary says differently, doesn't it? That seems to be exactly what it says. It is discrimination to treat different things differently.
Umbra But people hear discrimination and immediately think its a bad thing. I discriminate between jerks and polite people. I am not obligated to treat people I don’t like the same as people I like.
@@therainenetwork3510 No...just, no. No body thinks that, your lying. Your straw manning and argument to create this false problem society has to suit your (honestly) faulty argument but it actually doesn't exist. No one actually believes that discrimination is bad regardless of context. People think bad discrimination is bad and you know that, stop playing up on peoples ignorant fears. Oh and one more thing you are obligated to treat people equally regardless of your beliefs. Of course why you don't like someone is important but let me tell you there sexual orientation sure as hell isn't a reason to not like someone.
Master Chef as in using the argument “love is love” is stupid because literally anyone could say anything using the “love is love” statement. Hey, this 30 yr dude loves a 16 yo girl. Buts its love! Why isn’t it bad then? She’s consenting to the relationship! The “love is love” argument doesn’t work
Nothing wrong being gay , I’m bisexual and my mom doesn’t want me to be with someone with the same sex but I tried everything , force myself to be completely straight but I-wasn’t happy so I decided to not let anyone to change who I’m truly am and if you are gay and they don’t respect you , just know they don’t know how it feels unless they are in your shoes 👞 and let them experience that for a day they would understand but other then that they won’t understand unless they put themselves in you’re shoes .if you love someone , you can’t force them to not be with them . That’s just not right let’s say if you love someone but someone tells you “ you can’t cause that’s wrong “ and also rude comment saying things like “ you are going to hell “ or “ you are a disgrace , disappointment , not normal “ let’s see if you would be happy being said that , we are all humans and think about how they feel whenever they are being said by those words .
@@omarfayoumi3005 "A huge sin" implies that there are other sins that aren't as bad. I thought all sins were equal? Reproduction isn't the sole reason for marriage, nor is it a necessity. There are many straight couples who get married but have no children - is that also immoral or wrong to you? The idea that straight parents are better at raising children is not rooted in any fact or evidence whatsoever. There are countless studies, however, that show that children who are raised by homosexual parents fare no worse than other children. If adopted kids with homosexual parents are being bullied, isn't the solution, in this case, to try to get rid of the stigma of having homosexual parents rather than trying to get homosexual people to not have children? You have a very close-minded view on this topic, my friend. I suggest reevaluating your opinions.
Marriage: An idealistic spiritual bond between two individuals that feel love towards one another. Now tell me, when did marriage become something for only Man and Woman? Marriage knows no bounds, no gender. Marriage is for all consenting adults.
YESSS I LOVE THAT THESE PEOPLE HAD A VERY DEPRESSING DAY WHEN IT WAS FINALLY LEGALIZED!! HAHAHA... AND GUESS WHAT STRAIGHT PEOPLE STILL CAN GET MARRIED AND THEIR MARRIAGE ISNT DEVALUED IN ANYWAY!
No..Marriage is between two person or more if they love each other.. It does not have to be Opposite Gender.. It does not matter.. What matters is being in Love..
@Charles Case Reason it being so, is that even if the ones who disagree with Same Sex Marriage, there is always those annoying LGBTQ people who com around the corner complaining about "How they feel" and really it's pathetic. Stop going into your comfort, the end times is happening soon, 2050-2500 is when I think the Rapture from the Bible happens. Might as well create more life
@@Thudnok I think you might have missed your flight the rapture was in 1988 sorry I mean 1994 wait no it was 2011 May 21 my bad it was 2011 October 21 wait wait wait sorry last mistake it was actually 2017 September 23
sanssoumin everybody don't have to agree on everything in this world but if gay people can push and advertise same sex marriage why can't straight people do the same push and advertise straight marriage..you say it's right because of "love"and we say it's wrong because of God and common sense..
marriage is always being redefined, it was more about joining families for power and land. the wives and children were seen as property not as being the husband could do what ever he wanted
If Being gay is wrong why did "god" make us this way? It's not a sin people you could talk to any doctor in America and they could explain it all. Go ahead and believe your religion but me, I'll believe in the science and of course, love.
He didn't make humans gay, that is our decision. He made it so we can sin. Marriage is for a man and a woman, to be joined in holy matrimony. Not any other way. Moon1ight queen, if you believe that *you* and *science* are "right". then I hope you're prepared when it's time for you to suffer in Hell.
The shy girl no one talks to gay isnt a choice. I didn't chose to be gay. Tbh god isnt even real. Marriage is between love and love not women and men. Smfh. Homophobic ass bitch.
Angie Roman I may not know something, but as far as I know, The United States does not have an official religion. So, why should the US goverment make desisions based on The Bible and 'what the God said'. How do you even know his attitude to gay people? And what if I belive in something else, are you gonna convince me or something? Marrige gives you more rights (sharing property, organ donation and stuff) and makes you and your partner an official family. It has nothing to do with God and your personal opinion, so please, find an actual argument next time
God does not make anyone sin. Adam and Eve were told not eat the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. Satan tempted eve to eat. there was only one rule and they chose to disobey God.
@zztstenglish You forgot to mention the part in the article where it says the condoms weren't being used. I'm sure you didn't mean to leave that part out on purpose, did you?
why is marriage only seen as a husband and wife in most cultures? hmm... maybe because i don't know Homosexuality was made ILLEGAL in most? maybe its because people would literally MURDER or crucify you for it? Honestly i find nothing wrong with two consenting adults choosing to make their love official through marriage. This is the one point that i think Dr.Phil is wrong about.
PALERMO Sex, nowadays, isn’t natural anyways. Animals apart from humans have sex to populate or show dominance. People have sex for other reasons. What would you say “is natural”?
PALERMO Other reasons are just for fun i guess.... I suppose it’s “unnatural” but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. For example, clothes aren’t natural, no other animals besides humans wear them.
PALERMO Why shouldn’t it be shown to kids? And nothing went wrong, people just have more freedom to love who they love and it should be accepted because their relationships are based on love, and there is no difference between a heterosexual couple.
@zztestenglish Okay, so which question to address, the idea that your case in artificial conception involves only anonymous donors (not the entire population of people who use artificial conception) or the polygamy issue?
mar·riage /ˈmerij/ Learn to pronounce noun 1. the legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship (historically and in some jurisdictions specifically a union between a man and a woman). "a happy marriage" synonyms: wedding, wedding ceremony, marriage ceremony, nuptials, union; More
@zztstenglish part 2, I guess you didn't watch "Gary and Tony are having a Baby" huh? There's a good example of a Gay couple having a baby through in vitro fertilization. And their baby is just fine :) And I see no comments of your personal thoughts of Gay couples adopting unwanted kids from Heterosexual couples. It figures....
@LeBaoBeatha I refuted both your arguments. Perry vs. Schwarzenegger over turned Prop 8, it did not ban churches from preaching what they want. And that camp ground was a public camp ground. Public means it has to be open to the whole public. I don't refuse to address anything. I just don't have the time to reply to every single one of those comment. So just send me one comment at a time and I will address them one at a time.
@LeBaoBeatha Well excuse me for making a typo. I suppose you never make typos. -"Using the word merry to describe unions between both heteros and gays is incorrect, Christians view this word as a description of something special and a gift from god which was meant to be between man and woman" That is just your opinion, not a reason to ban same-sex marriage. Explain to me how it will personally effect them. Will they get forced to merry someone of the same sex?
@thedmundfitz claims, "the conservatives calmly and politely present their argument." Bwahahahahahahahaha! That's an funnier myth than than the one about homosexuality being a "choice".
GodCreatesGays2 I dunno. If Angelina Jolie wanted yo be my lover, I’d definitely go consciously gay in a heartbeat! The point is, consenting adults entering into a legal contract isn’t anyone’s business. 🤷♀️
So you're saying oppressing gays is not the same as oppressing blacks? Yes it is. These people cannot help how they are born and are treated as second class citizens
@zztstenglish said, "The reason why the gov't bestows tax benefits to married folks is to encourage procreation & raise kids who'll be the state's future workforce." Wow, you talk as if Gay couples can't have kids. Tell me what you know about adoption of unwanted kids from Straight couples, and/or In vitro fertilization....
Personally, I would like to thank the gay community for adding the "A" to LGBTQIA, as my husband and I are now a part of this community. We are both straight "A"llies fighting for equality for and with our friends and fellow citizens. And in a strange way I would like to thank all the homophobes out there for being so vocal. Because of you, my husband and I have become very motivated and active in the fight for equality.
Hi, Sylvia! I know I found this comment later on! But, as a Lesbian, thank you so much for the support! I am one of the fortunate few to have supportive parents and a family, and I know others around me are not. Your and your husband's kindness mean WORLDS to LGBTQIA+ people!
@MrTroll652 An interesting question. Studies suggest that we are all attracted to ourselves to some degree. There is a balance between people being attracted to people with features similar to their own (presumably to pass on genes that are more like your own) and with features different enough to avoid the evolutionary problems of multi-generational incest. A study was done suggesting that, statistically, the balance is the equivalent of your first cousin in closeness of appearance.
The original marriage contract was between two men who wanted to decide the life of their children. The father of the female would have to arrange a dowry and hope the father of the male accepted the proposal. God had nothing to do with it.
@97karenlacey Explain to me why the fear of other completely separate issues occurring is a legitimate excuse to deny same sex marriage? Also, what are you even replying to? I haven't talked in this thread for like a week.
I love how fake politicians and people are 30 years ago this conversation would've gone completely different. If you want to be gay then be it. But I dont have to except your beliefs the same way you don't except ours. For those who think being gay is wrong continue to fight for your beliefs the same way they fight for theirs.
@zztstenglish Still waiting one how that's worse than non-existence. Which one of those problems is worse than not existing in the first place. Please offer a nice, in depth explanation.
@zztstenglish Whether nor not they attempt to bring it up as a legal precedent means nothing as to whether they are similar in content. They are similar issues in that they both pertain to marriage law (in that neither group can marry), and nothing more. There are complications that arise from adding extra spouses into the contract of marriage that do not arise from same sex marriage. Basically, to say that you want to avoid one because it MAY lead to the other is no reason to deny it.
@zztstenglish Even if they got carried away it is true that students wanted to be taught the material. Also, regarding AIS I was not saying it was COMPLETELY different, as AIS is genetic/hormonal, but it is not quite the same. AIS actually affects the phenotypic sex of the person, and is an intersex condition. Also the presence of lesbians as well as much more masculine gay men disputes the idea that it is related to androgen sensitivity in cells. It's more likely due to prenatal hormones.
@zztstenglish I'm not too familiar with the laws regarding anonymous sperm donors, but I'm pretty sure a lot of states allow for access to those records if the child is 18 or they have parental consent. Also I'm pretty sure that it is required to give health history so that prospective parents have an idea of health issues in the donor's family. I mean.. it's really not that big of an issue.
@DoubleTalkingJive Idk if it passed or not but i remember an issue going on about that, that preists should be fined or something for not preforming the marriage. Marriage is not a state aggreement, it is an institution that the government recognises, but it is not initiated by the government.
The definition of marriage has evolved and has been redefined so much over the years. It went from meaning a young girl being sold to a man for a price agreed on by the father and groom, to a girl being assigned a husband to support her, to a man taking six wives as his property, to a white man and a white woman or a black man and a black woman, to just one man and one woman. Redefining marriage isn't new. Why can't we turn it into two people in love and leave it at that?
@AnnabelJone Also, I saw on your profile that you're "black and proud"... so I ask you, was slavery abolished to stop African Americans complaining, or was it because it was the morally right thing to do? Did we allow African Americans and women to vote to stop them complaining, or once again, because it was morally wrong not to? Also African Americans once couldn't get married in many states, and interracial marriages were also prohibited, so was this overruled merely to stop them complaining?
@zztstenglish O. Pratten is a case in Canada, with different laws regarding anonymous donors. From what I know, the majority of states require that perspective parents both know the medical history of the donor/that the children can request to find out who it is at 18 or under with parental permission. People often want to know where they come from. However, that doesn't mean they would rather be raised by their biological parents nor that they would be better off.
Maggie Gallagher is RIGHT ON! Thank God for someone who will actually DEFEND and honor the core family unit: father, mother, children. These sick, twisted freaks that keep trying to redesign the basic building blocks of society are such sickos! The label of "pervert" is truly justified.
One thing she brought up is that marriage is between two people who can have kids and raise them knowing the love of a mother and father so like 1. What about people who can’t have kids? 2. Sometimes mothers and fathers don’t treat their children right Like really the first point is one I’m really thinking about here. I hear people all the time say homosexuality is wrong because you can’t have kids but like, there are straight people who can’t have kids.
@akihiro6311 To clarify the expression of SRY leads to development of the testes which produce testosterone which masculinizes the organism. It's a bit hard to explain within youtube commenting limits.
@zztstenglish That's funny, because I recall you referring to a small group of religious parents attempting to dictate school curriculum and being on there side. Which would make it SEEM like you believe that is parent's role. It would also make you pro-bullying, but that's an entirely different issue.
@1christophercc Well, first your MRSA lies, "The Annals of Internal Medicine reported that the prevalence of MRSA in the Castro’s 94114 zip code reached a tiny smidgen of 0.17%, all hell broke loose. And guess what? Buried deep within that dry academic report - the report that few reporters ever bothered to read - was this: the margin of error was a whopping +/- 0.13%" That particular MRSA strain is already quite prevalent and has had outbreaks all across America.
@akihiro6311 MRSA is not a disease that is specifically contracted by gay men. It is a problem for immuno-compromised patients (only HIV +), athletes, and hospital patients mainly. It's transmitted mainly through open wounds. While the gay community is at risk for MRSA, it is no more at risk than other populations. Also, would you state the full name of something before abbreviating? How am I supposed to know WHICH APA you refer to, or what GBS is? AIDS, and STD are relatively common knowledge
@zztstenglish Even in cases of artificial conception where contact with the donor is kept intact or better the donor is a very close friend, the role of said donor in parenting is very limited (the review I've shown you states under several studies that contact at all tends to be limited). This is because the donor isn't the parent (in fact they have little to no parental rights in such circumstances).
@pdynamics1 It's always nice to see someone take a pro-bullying stance. It really serves to show the moral difference between us. Pro-gay people are against bullying, anti-gay people are for it.
1:11 - 1:27 I think that what is truly important is that the parents are not abusive, and that they provide their child(ren) with food, clothing, shelter, an education, love, and support. This can be accomplished regardless of the sexes of the parents.
So according to her logic, the government should decide how people have relationships with one another? I think true marriage is defined by the individuals involved, not on paper, not by word of law. Also, her point about it being "found in most cultures" is invalid, as each and every culture have their own marriage customs and views on sexuality, gender identity, etc
If they allowed same sex marriage it wouldn't change anything in a straight persons life, the only thing it would change is there would be A LOT MORE HAPPY PEOPLE out in the world. Why is it so hard to give some one their true rights?
@1christophercc Okay I've been silent a while but now I have a few questions for you. You claim that gay people "recruit and indoctrinate children into the lifestyle". Any evidence to support that the LGBT community is actually recruiting? Any evidence that children are literally becoming gay after they hear somewhere that it's okay? Furthermore, regarding the CDC studies, they said the needs of gay and bisexual men need to be prioritized. cont.
@knowamericaknowbible Marriage clarifies a relationship between two people according to law. Plural marriage would make a relationship MORE ambiguous in terms of rights and responsiblities whereby making "marriage" pointless. And again, I ask (why are you avoiding this question?) what CURRENTLY stops plural marriages from occurring? Can you cite a law which states that "as long as two men can't marry, then a man and two women can't marry"??? What is the connection? Or is it imaginary?
--> Their seven year old son came home after a teacher read his class the book, “King and King,” in which a prince falls in love with another prince. Courts ruled once again that these surprise lessons were mandatory and that they would not be allowed to simply opt their children out of them. The parents were also told that they would receive no notification either. Strange, considering that it IS LAW that these parents receive notification AND possible opt-out. -->
@1christophercc Speaking of HIV, over 80% of HIV transmission is done through heterosexual sex, with over 15% from intravenous drug use, according to the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Homosexual sex accounts for less than 1% of all HIV transmission.
@pdynamics1 I guess the whole "ya gotta wear the condoms if you want to step the spread of HIV" part of the article went over your head. So yes, it's probably in your best interest to drop the topic. Not wearing condoms isn't going to prevent the spread of HIV. I'm surprised you needed this to be explained.
-> Churches and sect doctrines in that they would have to alter certain aspects of their documentation to specify whether or not they support, whether or not they condone ceremonies, how those ceremonies would be held, and not only that. It would change education as well. Have you not read about the King and King case involving David Parker? Parents were stripped of their parental rights in the name of tolerance. As you can see this issue DOES impact couples, and their children.
@pdynamics1 Well, yes the testes are commonly found in the abdomen, but not always. I must confess I'm not too knowledgeable about the risk of cancer. I looked it up and have found a few studies saying there is an increased risk of gonadal cancer. Why do you ask?
--> "CHAPTER 71. PUBLIC SCHOOLS Section 32A. Every city, town, regional school district or vocational school district implementing or maintaining curriculum which primarily involves human sexual education or human sexuality issues shall adopt a policy ensuring parental/guardian notification. ->
@DoubleTalkingJive Why are they different? what about them is different? Tell me please I'd love to hear why you can arbitrarily assert they are wrong, yet homosexual and heterosexual marriage is ok. I need to know thisbecause I have never once been told the difference.
@pdynamics1 I would suggest you work on your own reading comprehension. You said, in the post that you made immediately preceding the one I responded to, "[I] think it would be fair to keep it out of schools imo." Which is, quite explicitly calling for pretending gay people do not exist, in the most harmful way possible. But please, tell me how I have "distorted" anything.
@africanusmaiorx proves my point, "i will not go to any ama or apa websites" Thank you. I knew you would refuse to learn, and now you've confirmed it. Never say I didn't try to help enlighten and educate you.
@MrBowserWowser Also what are your backgrounds in psychology/medical or biological science? Or heck, what's your background in the physical sciences? I normally wouldn't press this because you don't have to have said backgrounds to be informed and to be able to read the research but you claim it is obvious and that you have all the facts.... what qualifies you to say that?
It's wrong because that means it weakens reproduction and the creation of continuing life. I wonder if God made gayness a thing so the population of humans wouldn't over-populate... something to think about...
@LeBaoBeatha This is not a middle school debate, this is youtube. I am not going to search out those six comments and respond to every single one of them, get over it.
@clubindiana4 Your message didn't clear the spam filters, but it's an important one to share here, so I'll type it out for you. A poll from CNN this week is the latest to show a majority of Americans in favor of same-sex marriage, with 51% saying that marriages between gay and lesbian couples "should be recognized by the law as valid" and 47% opposed. This is the fourth credible poll in the past eight months to show an outright majority of Americans in favor of gay marriage.
@zztstenglish No matter what your thoughts on polygamy are, regardless of any precedent that it sets, your opinion on polygamy does not and should not have an impact on whether ssm is right or wrong. This is because they are indeed different issues.
@RapscallionRebellion Not to mention the counter protests by students going to the school. I feel like if the kids themselves want it to be taught, it should be.
Are we discussing gay marriage in term of a secular non-religious institution that also encompass atheists and non-Christians, or are we discussing gay marriage for Christians only? Last I checked, the U.S government view non-Christians as people too.
@zztstenglish ...continued, good question when you asked, "Why does the gov't subsidize marriage?" If gov't never subsidized marriage to begin with, then nobody would care about marriage now would they? Hello, it's about the economic benefits that comes with marriage, and Tax paying American citizens who are Homosexual couples deserve it too. Not just Heterosexual couples
@87jello That's Maggie Gallagher, the founder of the National Organization for Marriage. She got jilted by the guy who knocked her up when she was in college, so she's now a self-appointed expert on marriage and family. BTW, her degree was in theology. FUN FACT: She's a Catholic married to a Hindu, so her own marriage isn't even recognized by her own church and she doesn't go by her married name and is never seen with her husband in public.
