I think if he wanted to kill her, he wouldn't have pushed her all the way to the other end of the castle walls. Also, maybe Runnan has the logic of the series, "Better alive but thinking I hate him than killed in front of me." Besides, if he hadn't left her in the woods, there would have been 4 dead robbers. And two in captivity. Or Rayla would die because of her loyalty and love for him. Besides, he made so much noise that the guards at the gate gave to fight for the king. There's been so much retconing to Runaan since he became a gay icon. From what I've seen he just barks orders to Reyla then trys to kill her because she won't follow orders. Now the books say "he wasn't really trying to kill her". Yeah and the castle walls are made out of wall.

Awesome and epic fight in the night of the moon. Runaan and Rayla become invisible by the moonlight and start the fight, even if it means to the death. But why can't Runaan understand the truth when he saw the glowing egg of the dragon prince still alive, reasonably listen to his niece and cut off the mission? He really is short-tempered and stubborn when it comes to justice and completing missions. Man, I don't blame him for that. But sooner or later, Runaan will absolutely find peace with himself and with humans when he realized how wrong he was to accuse them of doing evil like Viren who was responsible for the death of the dragon king and imprisoning his two best friends in the coins a long time. Runaan was held in the dungeon before Viren trapped him in a coin - he ended up just like Tiadrin and Lain, Rayla's parents who were protecting the dragon prince as Dragon Guard until Viren invaded the dragon queen's lair and attacked them without mercy. But I know Tiadrin, Lain and Runaan will be set free from their coined prison someday and somehow, I just know it.

man this show really treats male characters badly every male character is always written as a loser to make woman look "strong" no wonder it kinda flopped compared to avatar which made sure to give its male characters many cool moments
How so? Rayla has more flaws than either of the boys (she's great though). Soren also gets the biggest and best character development, while his sister becomes more villainous. Aaravos, a male character, is undoubtedly the most cunning and badass character in the show too. Callum and Viren show off a lot of skill and smarts.
