This series is such a treat of Xs and Os basketball. Both teams are extremely well coached and have strengths that are hard to take away which leads to creative problem solving. In game 2, I felt like he took his shooting woes personally despite recording an important 13 assists in game 1. Both he and Brown were a lot more patient in game 3, accepting they need to reset rather than win the game themselves. The result is they actually play better individually as well while getting others important touches. Udoka is doing a great job.

Well that's because that's GSW plan to make him into a facilitator. GSW defense on Tatum has been good aside from game 3.Game 3 especially the second half changed. Brown drop bombs and was really going off where that opened up for Jason Tatum to get off a bit. Other then that GSW has controlled Tatum. Eventhough passing is his solution from what defense gives him aside from game 2 turnovers he's done a decent job. Has to continue to do so because if he has a bad turnover night that's bad for BOS.

@@danlawrence4351 Shaky. As a Celtics fan he sometimes sticks with strategies that aren't working but he made and in game adjustment this last game in the 4th quarter which was huge and that was subbing Rob Will in for Horford to defend Curry screens, so that he could get up more on them instead of playing drop and it resulted in an 11 point quarter from GS.
@jjlagoutaris518
@jjlagoutaris518 Год назад
@@KS-qc3pr I see him as a solid in-game coach. He generally calls the 'right' timeouts, and he adjusts pretty quickly, I'd argue. Game 1 they were getting cooked on the drop coverage, so they switched to showing on screens and then dropping in the 2nd quarter, which gave them the lead by halftime. Then they had a bad 3rd Q, but switched up their defensive scheme again in the 4th and held GS to like 16 or so points in that Q. He usually makes good subs, keeping in the hot hand, subbing guys that are getting exposed (g will in game 1 & 2 until he adjusted, Rob in the Bucks series, Theis in well, everything except the Nets series lol) and switching to lineups that work when the matchup calls for it (he's been implementing smaller lineups against GS featuring Pritch, White, Smart, Tatum, Brown, Horford in some combination, playing Pritch more or less depending on the matchup, playing D White when he's hot; subbing in Pritch when D White's gone cold, etc)

@@jjlagoutaris518 His timeouts are one of my favourite things about him, he calls them at the perfect times very consistently. Brad Stevens is an incredible coach and replacing him was very risky but his timeout tendencies always annoyed me, he'd wait for a team to go on a 20-0 run before calling a single one. Ime sees some bullshit he doesn't like on two possessions in a row and he's calling it immediately.

The mention of the "Andre Roberson" is funny cause for me, there have been some interesting commonalities with the 2016 WCF, except the roles are almost reversed in a weird way. I don't fully think its applicable but OKC was an elite offense that lacked depth and if I'm not mistaken the W's were a top 5 defense that was highly switchable. In this case, the Warriors are kinda like the Thunder and the C's are like the old GS. The idea of limited offensive depth combined with poor spacing aligns with what both the Thunder in 2016 and what the Warriors are facing now. Depth, especially offensively, was a worry of mine for GS going into the series much like it was for me with the Thunder. Again, there are obvious differences, at the respective points in their careers, Steph is a looot more capable of adapting to a series more than KD was at that point but it just is a fun thought. Also, this series also kinda reminds of the 2004 finals and the 2008 finals. also, "dominican dirk nowitzki" is absolutely incredible
@t4d0W

As good as Wiggins has been, Iggy in the mid 2010s run has the better playmaking to compliment the Steph/Dray engine even for short stretches. The Warriors don't have that guy who can do what he did then with that on-ball versatility. Poole isn't really it despite his scoring runs at times. The Celtics one up is that their starting five is ultra versatile and when they find that size matchup they aren't just trying to shoot around you. They will put their head down and run you at the rim. They have done it against big wing lineups in the EC playoffs and in a sense nobody in the playoffs so far can beat the Celtics small ball lineups outside of themselves with their garish turnovers.

Boston has sort of went back to a kind of old-school approach with more bigs and a commitment to intense physicality that we would have seen more of in the 90s. Tatum, Brown and Horford's strength and size for their positions reminds me of something like Jordan, Pippen and Rodman. JT and Brown developed into versatile two way wings who have the length to challenge at the rim. Robert Wiliams' athleticism is definitely welcome as the Warriors can't answer him. Horford's return is huge as he is filling the role Hayward had in the 2020 bubble playoffs but he's much better on defense. Smart's growth as a playmaker was the final piece of the puzzle. In the end the Celtics had to work overtime to hide Kemba in the bubble in 2020 which made it easy for opposing teams to pick them apart in space. With Smart being the smallest guy in the lineup, none of the EC playoff teams or the Warriors can easily pick the Celtics starting lineup apart anymore. I've been wondering ALL playoffs why defenders are pressuring Draymond 18 feet and deeper which is the area where he seems to operate the most as a facilitator. Basically, drawing a defender to commit out there while screening and other actions are playing out. Give him the early Cavs LeBron treatment and make him ACTUALLY create out there. Same treatment a Rondo or Giannis have received in the playoffs as well. I was happy to finally see this strategy employed. He can certainly adjust to that, but I think you need to live with not overhelping on Dray until it becomes a legitimate problem because a red hot Curry, Klay or Poole are much bigger problems.

C's will live with a red hot Curry because that is inevitable. Klay and Poole are hot and cold but the C's can deal with them on a scheme basis. Green is their biggest problem in the series. He has the same amount of fouls as he does points and assists, is shooting 5/19 from the field, has more technicals than 3 pointers, and more turnovers than shots made. And for the postseason, he has more podcasts than games with double digit points rebounds or assists. Not to mention the horrible spacing he provides them which is almost impossible to overcome. He’s made horrible and careless passes and hasn’t done anything positive offensively the whole series, all while being a negative on defense in 2 of the 3 games. He’s not even rebounding well. At this point he’s a worse version of Ben Simmons. Btw gs also has a defensive rating of 105.1 with him on the bench and 113.6 with him on the floor and are allowing 8.5 fewer points per 100 possessions with him off the floor, which just further proves how bad he’s been defensively. As for everyone else, Curry is their only player who’s played well in all three games. Everyone else played bad in game 1 and well in game 2, but then again everyone else was bad again in game 3 (Klay was mediocre not good). That includes kerr btw, who keeps taking out curry at bad points and is overall bad with his rotations which cost them in both games 1 and 3. The most concerning thing other than the obvious struggles from Klay Draymond and Kerr is that wiggins is looking like 2016 finals Harrison Barnes. Yes he’s played well at times so far, but 1/6 from 3 in game 3 and bad defense is Barnes like. Overall everyone has to be better at both ends accept porter (who’s been good when playing) and Curry has to be able to sustain this at the same time if the want a chance to win the series. Game 4 is also must win, as there is no way in hell any team including gs can come back against this Boston squad.

You're right about Dray being a liability right now, but Dray plays starter minutes with mostly starters, vs starters. The chance of the defensive rating of any heavy minute starter being worse than when on the bench is big without even checking since they lost 1 game by 10 and another by 20. Honestly at this moment, the only starter that hasnt been a defensive liability IMO, is Wiggins. However I'm giving Curry a pass because we already knew that and Klay since I expected his defense especially in his first year back would look suspect at times. Dray gets no pass. He should attack the basket even if he wouldnt score or get fouled. Just like what Simmons should have done, he should just be more aggressive both in driving as shooting and he needs to give Brown, Tatum and White no driving space so the defense doesnt have to collapse as much. However, IMO whats mostly happening, is that the Celtics are just incredibly good. Stats already showed they based on advanced metrics would have the biggest chance to win it all. Maybe it's not necessarily GS 'failing' but more so the Celtics playing really great as a hard to play against big sized gritty defensive squad full of young dudes with tons of energy.

@@Dotsetc I think a lot of it is Boston winning, especially their defense and answer in clutch situations. But when it comes to dray, he has no excuse being this bad on ALL ends, especially defense. He was litearlly a runaway DPOY until he got injured and was outstanding at least defensively till the mavs series. He should defintely play better than this. Klay is just playing like how he always, inconsistent offense just now its on the finals stage. Honestly his defense has been pretty good compared to before, I expect for him to be wayy better on defense next season. Wiggins has been terrible offensively but great defensively. Poole has been terrible apart from a scoring outburst in the 3rd and his defense makes him nearly unplayable in some situations. Looney has also been pretty good, but nothing like the dallas series (expected as boston is just that much better of a defense). Idk what kerr is doing with these horrible rotations, I think he should honestly let curry play way more of the 3rd and 4th in a do or die game 4. Curry has by far been the best offensively even if he choked in the 4th, and is what is keeping them in the game by far. In game 3 and parts of game 1 he was a defense liability but the man was acutally really good defensively in game 2. The way I see the warriors winning is that dray has to turn it on. Simple as that. If curry's the heart of the team, draymond is the blood--> he puts it all together. So when he's the worst player on the court its just horrible for the warriors, and they won't go far.

I agree that teams will usually try to minimise the threat of the best player on a team. Boston did that to the Nets (Durant), Bucks (Giannis) and Heat (Butler). They will continue to do that with GS (Curry) and GS will try to minimise Tatum who is the biggest threat. That gives other players the opportunity to step up and JB is doing that. It's a big reason why Curry is still yet to get a finals MVP. It takes a special kind of player to shrug off the extra defensive attention and still produce high numbers on the biggest stage. The smart play is to adjust and create for your teammates and that is what Tatum is doing for the most part. When he tries too hard to be 'that guy' it leads to turnovers.

This is some excellent analysis. Both teams have adjusted to each other and will continue to do so. My worry as a gw fan is this game being a back and forth, with Boston wining in 6 games. Hopefully my predictions wrong, but good luck to the teams! You deserve to be here! 🎉

Super underlooked point is that every time they went to the rim, Time Lord had the easy rebound if it didn't go in
