Don't give up, we can all feel your frustration and anger and we have all been there! I am enjoying your videos. Leave the car for a while and refresh yourself and come back fighting. Looking forward to your next video.

You may have already tried this, but my '86 Coupe had exactly the same symptoms as yours a couple of years ago. The car would start fine, idle fine and rev fine, but as soon as you introduced load it stuttered badly. I eventually traced the issue to a bad connection. In my case it was one of the three harness connectors that are mounted vertically on a bracket above the engine just behind the heater cowl. I noticed one (the cylinder head temp sensor if I remember correctly) was not seated correctly. Once I disconnected, cleaned and put all 3 back on properly, the problem was gone. 2 years later she is still fine. The other one to look at is the earth wires that are screwed onto the inlet manifold. If the surfaces of either the wires and/or the mounting point on the manifold are not spotless they are notorious for causing issues. Hope this helps and I look forward to your next instalment.

Replace the intake gaskets. Sounds like un-measured air in still getting in and causing air/fuel mixture imbalance. Some starting fluid can be used to detect leaks.

Ok, i haven't done that yet but is on my list so will crack on. Thanks for watching.

My money is on the bosch air flow sensor. I had a bmw 635csi highline same problem and same unit as yours. The carbon track wears out for the first 5 mm which is the most used speed range. A second hand unit is just the same problems you need to bite the expensive bullet and buy new if your can find one. Fixed my problem.

I had this issue and gently bent the arm so that it runs on an unworn track. Check Pelican Parts.

Wow😩 Lot’s of patience involved getting your engine to run properly I’ve had the same problems with a 1982 928 and we have nicknamed the car “It could be this or that” I’ve had the car at 3 “So called experts” and they don’t get it Had the ECU,MAF, all hoses,smoke tests,grounding points checked,New Oem plug leads,distributor cap,ignition coil, The list goes on an on It’s a beautiful car, and highly desireable being a manual on Cup rims✅ So the next step is the 6.0 LS engine (Corvette),with suspension upgrades etc,and the car will be fully serviceable Stage 2clutch etc,Alternator in a sensible position etc Plus the engine will be at 470 hp Porsche’s are great GT Touring cars,and once the get old,parts are harder to locate,cost more than they should,have way to many electronic woes And mechanics here in BC are not interested in trying to help Pity really 😂 Cheers Frank

I love that name, its so true. Ive heard the 928 is particularly frustration to work on as there electrics are over complicated? Keep going and try to enjoy the journey (albeit a static one at the moment)! Thanks for watching

I can help but think it might be the crank position sensor that might need adjusting. It wouldn’t hurt to try a slight adjustment either way. You can always put it back to its original position
@blandsbarn

Yes, ive been thinking that but so nervous about moving it, wasn't sure if it was a thing where it either works completely or not at all.

I had a very similar problem with my 1984 Carrera for years and went through the same process... In the end it was established that the ECU under the passenger seat was faulty!!!

Do a smoke test to determine if there are leaks causing unmetered air. Just randomly throwing parts at the car without a test plan won't get you to where you need to go.
@blandsbarn
@blandsbarn 5 месяцев назад
Yes, unmetered air seems to be a common thing which is why i changes all the hoses, didn't think of a smoke test. Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching.

I feel your frustration! As others are suggesting I think it’s time to seek help from a Porsche specialist. As you say it could be anything, but one things for sure in that I’m sure the issue has arisen before……

@@blandsbarnEasy for me to say, but it’s not worth getting frustrated with yourself. You probably won’t spend anymore seeking help, than aimlessly spending money with a process of illumination! You’ve done so bloody well………

New to the channel so apologies if you've ruled this out, but it sounds like a fuel flow issue to me - had a similar issue on one of my engines. had a water separator which was restricting fuel flow and had a very similar response when raising the revs.
@blandsbarn
@blandsbarn 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for the tip, I have checked fuel pressure which seems fine however that doesn't measure the flow i guess so might be worth me looking into. Thanks for watching

check the fuel distributor for the moving pin on top of the crown. sometimes they can get stuck .You can spray abit of lubricant down the shaft to free it up again. I have the older cis fuel distrib and it fixed the issue on mine after i did this.also because alot of these systems are alloy in the fuel system I add upper lubricant to the fuel to clean and keep the system well lubed from corrosion. Thanks for your uploads...

Take the lid off the bosch sensor and look at the carbon track you should be able to see the worn out track. If it's worn then that's your problem.

Sometimes you have to give in and put the car into a Porsche Specialist as you could keep spending good money and replacing the wrong thing, or things that make no difference to the way the car runs. I’ve done it! Do you have an independent where you live?

I Klknow what you are saying but I disagree to some extent. Almost everything he has replaced has been cracked or otherwise damaged. I think replacing these things that are beyond their service life will lead to a more sorted and reliable car in the long run even if it hasn't sorted his immediate misfire issue.

surely while you had it pulled apart and access you could have serviced a few of the fuel system parts , you say your not quite shure what certian elements function are , why not do some research and find out?

You need to find an independent expert. Throwing random parts at it won’t work. You have done the obvious stuff. Have you cleaned injectors and changed spark plugs/leads? Checked fuel-pressure?
@blandsbarn

Yes to those points and yes to getting an expert on board, i think its time! Thanks for watching
