Indiana is a song by a SCOT called Andy Mitchell from Ullapool who wrote it when he decided to leave Indiana after working there most of his life and retire back home to SCOTLAND. Lots of Scottish folk songs become 'Irish' another example that springs to mind is 'Willie McBride'.

For someone who knows all the albums by heart, it's such a joy to listen to a version so different, yet still the same, all the amazing turns of Andy's arpeggios. A journey of imagination.

A lovely song as well as my favorite, and I always sing along when being played.

The guitarist, in this series of videos, is not Ged Foley but the great Arty McGlynn, the original guitarist with Patrick Street.

Scots songs, Irish songs. Who cares?Celtic music from gaelic roots is all brilliant and shared with the world. We don't hide our light under a bushel. Let it shine to brighten the darkness in todays world.

I often wonder why Andy does not play this in his solo sets. Great song

Andy Irvine Fanblog He did it in limerick at the Irvine/Brady 40th gig.... Never heard him doing it in a solo gig though which is a pity, it's a classic

Try a You Tube search "Feis Rois Indiana" Andy Mitchell from Ballintore who stayed in Ullapool for a long time wrote it about friends of his who emigrated from Ullapool to Indiana then came home after many tears. The search will take you to kids from Ross-shire doing their version.
