@@theMcWOPPER 2012 team ?? What’s their average win by points ? They barely beat Croatia in th finals LOL . There’s is only one dream team. Not even a 2.0 👍🙏🏽😂
Kobe had the best quote when ask if he could beat the Dream Team "We could,, we could,, but if Bird and Magic are in they prime...it becomes a different conversation" 😀😁😂🤣
A lot of people got upset about Kobe saying that. Sportswriters questioned all the team members and most of them had a lot to say about how wrong he was. Bird said calmly though "Probably, we are all old now."
Sir Charles always makes sense. "we should have an ego, we're the best players in the world; I don't know what you do but you should have an ego as well." Love it!
Ego is nothing but to feel oneself more important than others, to feel different & superior to others. Such a feeling of finding oneself different from others is nothing but the ignorance & such an illusion is called ego.
Mullin was so underrated on that group. The international three point line was like a lay-up for him. Ewing and Robinson on the same front court. Hahahahaha. Bird and Magic together..... Beyond incredible, even at the end of their careers. No team will ever be like or better than 1992.
And Mullin was All-NBA First Team that year, ahead of Pippen and Barkley and Isiah (and Bird who was on his last legs). Some people say ‘oh Isiah Thomas should’ve been on the team instead of Chris Mullin and Shaq should’ve been on it instead of Christian Laettner’ but while I can have a little sympathy for the Shaq instead of Laettner argument, at that point Isiah was a year away from retiring and not his old self, and plus you already Magic Johnson and John Stockton at Point Guard both of whom were better at that point and really in all-time rankings, and plus they needed more versatile 2/3 guard/forward type players for the international game who could shoot lights out for 3 and play tough defense and also importantly not have such a huge ego which Mullin didn’t have as he just stoked to be there and so he was like a Jack of all trades player, and then most importantly Isiah had said and done fucked up shit to the big 3 of the team (Magic, Bird, Jordan) and basically almost everyone else with the dirty play of Pistons and his stabbing Magic in the back (and they were fairly close friends compared to everyone else) and betraying him when he announced he had HIV, saying he must be gay basically at a time where that was a big taboo and even illegal in many states, then he said Bird was overrated for being white to the point they had to have a Bird-Isiah press conference where Bird stood up for him basically saying he wasn’t bothered by it and it was no big deal only to have Isiah and his teammates like Laimbeer and Rodman and Mahorn trying to injure Bird and the Celtics on the floor with dirty plays and moves beyond just being tough, and then of course they did the same to Jordan and then left the floor early without shaking hands or even letting the game end when Jordan finally beat them in the 1991 Playoffs and then saying ‘well the Celtics did that to us a few years ago and no one said anything’ which wasn’t true as McHale shook his hand at the end and told them to go kick some ass and the Celtics didn’t leave the floor early just at the end and Bird didn’t shake their hands because McHale did (and plus he didn’t respect them really for their dirty play) and McHale was basically the team leader at that point because Bird was into his injury years where he wasn’t quite the same consistently and then plus the Garden is always mayhem after games with everyone running around loose on the floor so the players always try to bounce early there lol, and basically no one liked or respected Isiah because of his behavior and rightfully so but he never took responsibility and always whines and talked shit and was just a shitty dude (same with Laimbeer) so he would’ve inevitably fucked in the Dream Team’s chemistry. And again he was less than a year from retiring then anyway, and even his coach legend Chuck Daly who’d won 2 back to back champion shops with him a couple years earlier and was the Dream Team head coach didn’t go out of his way to get him on the team which says something too. Basically Isiah got what he deserved, and it was the right thing pragmatically for team quality and the right morally for people who behave like scumbags in life and expect no consequences. As for Shaq, he had just been drafted #1 in the NBA Draft a month before the 1992 Olympics, but Christian Laettner (who was picked #3, Alonzo Mourning went #2) had just won College Player of the Year that year a few months earlier and also come off back to back NCAA championships at Duke in 1991 and 1992 (and the year prior to the back to back run, 1990, Laettner’s freshman year, they made it to the final game but lost) which no team since UCLA over 20 year prior and no team since except Florida in 2007-2008 has ever done, and he also had hit the game-winning shot in that NCAA D1 championship game at the buzzer to win it those few months earlier so his stock was super high and plus he was a better shooter than Shaq and more well-suited to the international basketball rules and had played international basketball before unlike Shaq (and Shaq’s LSU that year lost in the 2nd, the round of 32, while Laettner had won it) as the international/FIBA/Olympic rules and game were more like the NCAA so that favored Laettner too. Lastly, the Dream Team already had Ewing and Robinson at Center who had pretty similar games to Shaq but were more developed, plus Malone and Barkley at Power Forward so really what they needed so better heads up defenders and shooters not another big center down low. All that said, I would’ve preferred to have seen Shaq selected especially in hindsight but I totally understand why they didn’t at the time. It made pretty good sense. And as for Isiah, as cool as it would’ve been to see Isiah and Shaq alongside all the other legends instead of Mullin and Laettner, Isiah didn’t deserve it for what he’d done, and again he didn’t even best fit what the team needed to win (even though you could say his rapport with Coach Chuck Daly would’ve been useful, but obviously it wasn’t necessary as we saw with the results, and Mullin definitely carried his weight when you look at the stats). Now one last thing I’ll say is that John Stockton didn’t play that much looking at the stats (I think he was somewhat injured at the time) and so maybe it would’ve made sense to have Isiah instead of him, but again at the end of the day when you make everyone you’re enemy for being a scumbag, this is what you get. And then there’s the whole needing white guys on the team for marketing purposes thing lol hence Bird, Laettner, Mullin, and Stockton, but really I don’t think that was much of a calculation as all this other stuff (though I’m sure in Isiah’s mind that was a big deal lol 🙄).
Isiah once implied that Magic might be gay due to contracting HIV, claimed that Bird would just be seen as an ordinary player if he's black, and prematurely walked off the court to refuse shaking the Bulls' hands after his team was eliminated. Yet people are acting like he's such an innocent victim here. XD
jp3813 Do you know when and were he said these things ? If he really said that then he knows nothing about the game of basketball . My opinion Larry Bird is the G.O.A.T Most rounded Bball player ever he beat every big name in Basketball constintly from Dr. J To MJ . Bird was playing chess on the court wile everyone else was playing Checkers . Undefeated all season in College lost to Magics Michigan boys in the finals but beat him in the NBA with the Celtics . I love to see all skin colors playing together and being successful as a team black , white it doesn't matter there teamates and brothers afterwards . Gives me hope for the future color blind is the only way to be .
anthony emery it was in an old interview. I believe during one of the old pistons and celtics play off series. Bird is one of my favorites. not the greatest but by far the smartest player.
I remember the dream team and it still amazed that the USA was able to put together such an amazing team, i was 13 years old at the time and still cant believe that i was able to witness such a great time in Olympic history, there will never be such greatness to play in the Olympics as those 11 men...... they will forever be the BEST of all time
Agreed....interesringly enough, chuck had no issue with coaching the team and yet his star player was snubbed and proceeded to play golf every day with Michael....🤔
Remember when our Olympic athletes loved our country, loved the USA!! What happened, these men loved our country and did it with pride and honor, the exact opposite of today!
That dream team was embarrassingly talented. They oozed class...and why not? They were loaded to the teeth with supremely gifted players! To cap it all, they had arguably the best basketball player of all time... Michael Jordan! Every player in that team was a force to reckon with. Brilliant players... absolutely brilliant players! Not sure if there will ever be a great team like the dream team again.😀
I remember feeling so powerless that I didn't have the proper channels to watch my dream team win the gold. Back then, we felt like we were a part of the dream team because they were all proud to be American, representing our country and making us proud. I don't even think there was so much star power in the NBA to this day, that has garnered as much attention as the original dream team.
being a kid in Chicago during the early 90's.... Jordan and Pippen (and the other Bulls) were already gods to me and my friends. Then this happened. Such a great time to be a young boy who loved basketball.
2008 and 2012 team barely beat teams by 20 points LOL. These kids today haven’t really seen how good the dream team was at that time . Heck I recorded all the games in my VHS tape and still have them today in my attic 😂😂
Yeah, but I still would have seen this team instead Magic Johnson Mark Price Michael Jordan Clyde Drexler Reggie Miller Scottie Pippen James Worthy Chris Mullin Charles Barkley Dennis Rodman Brad Daugherty David Robinson
Hey Mike, could your Dream Team beat the 2022 Dream Team? Yes, absolutely, but probably only by 5 or 10 points. How come? Well, we're all in our 60's now. The Absolute GOAT!
+Zachary Rose (Der Fuhrer's Werwolf) They needed one college basketball player and at that time, Laettner was better than Shaq. As well as David Robinson and and Ewing. They didn't need Shaq. Now if Shaq from Dream Team 2 and played with them then yeah, you're right on, they would've had a problem. Shaq would tell you all this himself.
Josh Jordan Shaq, Hill, the fav 5, and many other players would tell you that in that year Laettner was the best college player. And when he played with Hill in college, Hill was number 2. He was number one after Laettner was gone.
LilPrince Killa Because he had Hurley and Hill on the team with him. Hill's skill set had him better suited to be in more of a Scottie Pippen type roll, and Hurley is one of the greatest pure PG's ever. With those 2 as teammates it'd be hard not to shine.
Josh Jordan In that case, Jordan needed Pippen to shine. And Shaq needed Kobe to shine, and Lebron needed Wade to shine, and Kareem needed Magic to shine. See the logic in that argument???? No one can do it by themselves. When you're the best man, you're the best man. P.S. They both needed Laetner to shine just as well.
They didn't want Zeke because he led that dirty BACK 2 BACK 89, 90 Bad Boys Pistons team!! Isiah was dirty but it really burned the league because he was THAT DAMN GOOD!! FUCK THE 92 DREAM TEAM!!
nonono as much as I loved rodman as a player in the NBA he should NOT have been picked to represent our country. Dude is a masochist. a beautiful loveable masochist but still a masochist. if charles almost started an international problem what you do think rodman would have done?
I dont think anyone wanted anyone from the piston on that team. The only reason they recruited a Piston's coach is because he was use to coaching odd ball rough players.
An amazing team. So glad I watched and followed the games, their careers and respected all of their talents. Incredible! I don’t think any future team can even come close to their talent.
"there was only one dream team, one, that was us"! i was 9 years ols, played Basketball since 3 years and i can remember everbody wanted to be MJ, but there was a kid wanted to be Scotti, that was me :D i miss this time! great players for life! love it!
Charles Barkeley never won an NBA title but he was a vital part of the Dream Team which shows that sometimes one has to be lucky to be in the right team
Then don't bother sending a team. If you don't have a strong program or don't care about the sport then don't complain if you go up against the best. Programs and athletes get better by playing better teams. You play to win. If you are the best team playing the worst you still play as hard as you can.
Christian Laettner was given Isaiah's spot. Jordan, Pippen, Stockton. Malone, Ewing, Bird and Laettner just to name a few didn't want Isaiah, so stop blaming Jordan.
Yea people talk shit when they don't know the full details. The problem was IT, he didn't know how to keep his mouth shut, it was a conjoined decision, not just Jordans.
That is incorrect. Jordan got Isiah's spot when he decided to play and Pippen got Dumars' spot. Laettner was always on the team in order to keep the amateur flavor on the team. Laettner had no issue with Thomas.
@@MeMe-td1ye - That had nothing to do with anything. Jordan stated he'd play "....as long as Pippen was in and the Pistons were out. Tell Joe I'm sorry and Isiah fuck you."
el mejor equipo de baloncesto que vi en mi vida, no tenian puntos debiles, tiro dribling velocidad, grnades bases escoltas aleros y pivots, innimitables
The truth is the US Olympic basketball do not need a dream team to win the gold in order to humiliate the world. Just put the Chicago Bulls will suffice.
Fuck Outta Here😄😄😄 The man went back 2 back (& would've 3 peated if it weren't for that phantom call in game 6 1988 NBA FINALS). He beat Birds Celtics. He beat Magics Lakers. & he beat a young Michael Jordan & the Bulls. That takes a whole lotta discipline young man. Jordan didn't want him: End Of Story
@@DreMurf313 Asshole the whole team didn't want him, don't be such a bitch by not listening to the full facts and foolishly just saying Jordan didn't want him.
