but I read that betta dont work well with filter. is sponge filter safe for betta? I got small tank tho. its 3-4 galong (15cm diameter.) do you think I should use sponge filter?
It looks good, very creative, but would imagine that weekly water changes could be a bit awkward....and the lid may be impeding the oxygen exchange at the surface.
Thanks. I am hoping that with the constant air pump the air should be constantly fresh and I belive Betta fish have the ability to surface breath. Water changes are not to bad actually with the siphon wand. I have another video on the way with some more info and to answer similar questions.
The air pump is not what oxygenates the water. It is the agitation caused by the bubbles hitting the surface which does that. It breaks the surface tension mixing the oxygen coming into the tank at the surface with the water. In nature this is done by wind, waves or water falling. bettas can breathe at the surface, but the lid would be greatly reducing the oxygen level at the surface. I have been a subscriber of yours for sometime but have not commented till now. I run 6 aquariums in my home, the largest being 700 litres. Just trying to help. Cheers from sunny and hot Queensland, Australia.
Thanks for the info. I was meaning that the air pump would be constantly replensihing the air space at the top of the tank. I may add some additional vents into the lid then if that is what you would recomend?
The surface area of the water is small compared to the bowl, because of the narrowing at the top. You should only fill a bowl 2/3 of the way. How are you heating and filtering the water? Doesn't look like theyres enough room for equipment in there. While betas can survive a lot of things, ammonia is still dangerous to them
Put one mystery snail in there and not a scrap of algae to worry about :] Keep away from direct sunlight and shouldn't have a problem either, algae needs a lot of food waste to thrive, one betta doesn't typically eat enough for algae to grow like nuts xD
Wondering how mamy gallons that holds. It is close to one of the biggest if not the biggest Bali hand blown molten glass bowls and teak wood ive ever seen. I love it and plan on making a Bonsai terrarium out of one soon as I find the perfect shape & size one, so I am on the hunt as of this week.
Tim - thats brilliant. My guess is that very wealthy people would pay lots of money for your fish tank. You obviously changed the shape of the glass container which must have been an interesting challenge. For the very wealthy I guess you would provide a full size tree stump and much larger jar. The fish may prefer a lower light level using incandescent bulbs which produce a more natural light. As a piece of art my guess is £500 upwards. Have you visited Smallbone in Devizes and looked at their craftsmanship? Think you can produce similar furniture . . . With their furniture it is attention to detail and perfecting the proportions - look at their herb cupboard Love the videos, encouragement and inspiration Chris
Tony many thanks - I guessed the glass shape was re-formed when very hot! I know someone who specializes in very large glass sculptures but if Tim wants to sell these . . . it is his idea. Also realized the the *art* could be a metal sculpture, stone, or some other object. A person who can change the shape of the glass demijohn is also needed.
Haha not quite, go to Bali and drive down the street, literally hundreds of these things sold for cheap every day. should probably start importing them!!!
Really amazing looking tank. I wouldn't leave it close to a window you will get a build up of algae on the glass really quickly. I would also check what Kelvin your light if those plants are really plants
It is a fake window that was bricked up years ago. The LED has varous temp settings but if the plants don't last we may end up switching to fake ones. :-(
The Restoration Couple really looks like a real window!. I would give the plant species a quick Google and should get the most important Kelvin for the plant. I might suggest a small amount of liquid fertilizer. I would suggest ADA green brighty step 1. And depending on if you want clear water or not some almond leaves, they will turn the water a shade of brown but they are super good for fish health
Hi great video as always. Was it just chance that the glass bowl fitted your stump or did they come together? Wasn’t sure if you were cutting the stump to fit the bowl or cutting it down to fit the window. Looks fantastic though.
Logaraja M gently wrap craft tissue paper around the tank to determine the area where the leak is coming from then try sealing the area with a product called 'Clear Flex Seal.'
That's a really cool idea for a tank! Is your betta (I assume that's what it is) going to get some company in form of shrimps or something small-ish, or are you going to leave it alone?
I'm probably biased because I love watching shrimp, but there are a few freshwater species which stay small and, in addition, help keep your tank clean, if you see that as an added bonus. You got a good set up already with lots of plants, so they'd probably hide anyway :D However you decide though, I hope there will be updates for him along the way.
I wouldn't rush to add more fish betta are very liable to getting nipped but the filter capacity of that tank won't be much what s it's water capacity?. But some nano variety of shrimp would be cool. B
@@TheRestorationCouple I must admit that I am rather embarrassed because I just viewed your other video on the build. Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. Enjoy your day.
What a superb job and a great way to finish off the room. I subscribed a few days ago and been catching up on your projects. I was 29500 I see you have peeked the 30000 mark all ready in only a few days. Great channel.
beautiful tank but your beta needs more surface area to breath from. and saw a mini filter ( that's great) but watch the temp, they need warm water as they are tropical fish. again beautiful tank
I did too! I bought it as a sculpture in a market. They are hand blown and then lowered on to the root while red hot, they then put out the flames and cool the glass. Found a video on youtube somewhere, they are made in Indonsia with recycled glass. Not sure I am going to try it myself anytime soon!
Nice but if you know anything about fish keeping all your gonna do is stress and kill the fish. Poor filtration poor water quality. Please please research why tanks like this are bad for fish.
